"Gone," a word with many meanings. I wonder if this time it means "beyond food costs".

Interesting. Every time I blog about something, in this case it's Memory Lane, someone here mentions that very subject. As they say, great minds think alike!

I'm fortunate to have missed out on Melt, but where Heidi is concerned, Memory Lane is bad enough.

I'm so glad you said something. Made me realize I don't have you on my blog roll. I've added you (all by myself in HTML land. heh).

I see you have WW core and I can make you think listed on WOE. What is your hx/success with low carb? WW is good program and I am familiar with I can make you thin. I have food allergies (grain/dairy) and RA and this is why I'm considering low-carb. Plus I have lot to lose and I did notice when I did Atkins (even though too severe) my food cravings went away for the first time in my life. I think I'm most afraid of the "rebound effect", once you take carbs out, you regain quickly if you eat them again. Have you heard of Paleo/Neanderthin/Caveman? Only meat, fruit, veggies, nuts-no dairy, no legumes, no grains. I haven't seen this on any threads yet. Thanks for your reply.

Iggy,

In the Diet Plans area look at the "other plans" topic thread. I did a seach of it and didn't find specifically a paleo thread (you can start one!) This link came up when I searched that area for Paleo diets. Lots of good info there!YOU on a Diet ( 11/01/07 - 02/29/08 )

Also, if you Google paleolithic diets you'll find a world of great info.

And drop by anytime!!

Good question, Kat! Maybe the Yucksters (as I like to call him/her/them) is working on something really juicy.

Or, maybe just out enjoying the nice weather?

Iggy, I looked around under the other plans heading, and found a couple threads that were devoted to Paleo. Perhaps if you ask on those you can get more information about it.

The one thread had a very good list of links to outside information about Paleo. But I'm sure there are plenty of people on here doing paleo... surely they must be lurking around somewhere. So as Mayberry suggested, perhaps it's time to start another thread about Paleo.

Thanks for info. I am cont to look for more info on Paleo on this site. It is expansive and alot to sort through. Would anyone like to tell me their experience and stats with low-carb?
Again, I noticed when I did Atkins, the results were real and my food cravings went away. This has never happened on any other plan. (WW makes me want to eat more). But induction was too severe. I think I functioned best when I had small amount of fruit (berries, citrus, melon, apple) in morning and once in afternoon. Then everything else meat, veggies, nuts, small amts of cheese/butter/olive oil. I seem to be most allergic to the items I most crave (corn, wheat, milk).
When you look at low-carb it makes sense. I have never wanted to binge on vegetables, meat, real nuts or fruit. You guys have an intersesting thread going. I enjoy reading it. Please let me know what you have been successful with and anyone who has long-term success with low-carbing.

Not likely indeed. Not sure why she hasn't posted, but I have been getting email and a blog comment. I think she is just fine. Maybe if you goad her enough, she will post; maybe using excessive fonts and colors.

Iggy~
Well, let's see. I've been low-carbing since last June. I started out with about 100 lbs. to lose and have lost a little over 50 lbs. so far. I started doing Kimkins because I didn't know any better. Lost some hair, had some dizzy spells and switched to Protein Power. The Eades talk a lot about the paleolithic underpinnings for their plan and I highly recommend their book. It has three levels of dieting so you can do it and not be quite as strict as Atkins induction. It all depends on how quickly you want to lose, and other personal preferences.

Learning to live low-carb is about on-going education. It's not about just dieting for a while. Since you have food allergies, I assume you are looking for a plan you can live with for life, not just to take off the weight.

Other things that have helped me: The support I find here, not just in the fascination threads but in the main lobby as well. Lots of long-term LC'ers there like Fawn and LindaSue who are always willing to help. Walking 30 minutes per day (2-2.5 miles) helps me not to be insulin resistant. I sleep better and have tons more energy doing low carb. A good vitamin regimine is important. The Eades book - Protein Power - has some excellent recommendations. LC eating can cause muscle cramps due to lower levels of potassium and magnesium in some people. Staying hydrated is very important! And, keep a food journal so you know what and how much your'e eating. The Daily Plate is excellent and the free version is all you need! Some people only keep up with their carbs, but I find it useful to keep up with everything or else I can go overboard. Also, it helps you make certain that you are eating enough! It's easy to go too low on calories and protein eating LC because your appetite will decrease, sometimes dramatically.

Oh, and the bad news is, people eating LC can experience long stalls in weightloss despite following their plan correctly. Knowing this going in can help you not to become discouraged. And, if you find yourself in that situation, lots of people here will have suggestions to help you get through it.

Iggy - it's my understanding that some people do have a lot of trouble handling induction level carb intakes on Atkins. One guy I read about had induction flu for 3 weeks - but he stuck it out, brave soul! The body will convert over to fat burning instead of relying in carbs, but sometimes the addiction is strong - as evidenced by the way you crave corn, wheat and milk, the very things you're allergic to.

I haven't done paleo myself - I don't have much tolerance for carbs at all, and the fruit on paleo would do me in.
