My anti-virus software caught it right away and deleted it, but I'd advise everyone to stay the heck away from it. This is a Trojan virus, and the file name is 0000001c.js. Last edited by daisyrat : 04-12-2008 at 09:06 AM. Reason: More information |

I just did the same thing, googled the virus file. In fairness to Sam, I suppose it's possible it could have come through the proxy server itself, though I use it all the time and I've never had a problem with it.

Also, this doesn't look like a hack to me. It looks like he just copied the site wholesale and stored it on his own directory. For what reason, I don't know, but anyone can do that. On a semi-related note -- Jimmy Moore's blog is coming up *blank* for me. Is it just me? Last edited by daisyrat : 04-12-2008 at 10:58 AM. |

Will someone answer this question for those of us that are not computer savvy?
What would be the reason for anyone to “mirror” a site? Why would someone do it? Can they do something with it, or can they use it in some way? ![]() |

http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...30/athop2.html There is a link on there to another site I built - in remembrance of my father, called "After Eight". This is mostly Big band and swing music. At that time, I met a wonderful person online named Sam Grippaldi, and, in some cases, where I could not find a midi recording of one of my Dad's favorite pieces, Sam would construct it for me - he was a great musician, and had learned how to get his music into midi format. We never met each other, but developed a warm friendship online, and he was so helpful to me. Sometimes, I would find several renditions of a song, and he would point out what he thought was the best one. It was one of my best experiences online. A true, wonderful person. Now I stumbled into the KK scam and life on the internet has changed drastically. :-(

Thank you for your reply. I'm really confused on why Sam would do it. It doesn't sound like he is doing it to learn.I will go and check out your site in a few minutes, thanks. The story about your dad and your friend is very nice . Please try to forget about Heidi, don't give her the power. Again, thanks LL Last edited by LosingToLive : 04-12-2008 at 12:56 PM. That's a very nice little page - certainly nothing at all to be ashamed of! (And I like your taste in music too!)
I'm no computer geek, so I could be very far off on this, but as far as I know, the only reasons to mirror a web page are to take some of the strain off of the first web location (for instance if there's a certain limit on how much traffic it can have, and you're exceeding it, you may be directed to a mirror page), or if someone is transferring their site to a new provider (probably not the correct term for it - but meaning for instance, if they're transferring from geocities to anglefire), because they're expecting the first site to shut down. That's what my first thought was when the word "mirror site" was used - Heidi is expecting KK.con to be shut down. We're hot on the trail of MCD, if that happened to be the original back-up site (could be, could be...), so they'd need somewhere else to go. That still begs the question of why Sam would come in here and post for days, leading us to his site, and then put a mirror of Heidi's front page on his site. The only thing I can figure is that she's just thumbing her nose at us again.

The other thing that bothers me is the appearance of Sam and then, immediately following was CrispyBread's (Hi Heidi!) response. But, as much as they like to throw enigmas and puzzles at the ducks - we always track it all down and figure it out. And doesn't that PI$$ you off, Heidi? Well GREAT! AND THERE IS MORE COMING! STAY TUNED! ![]() |

L2L here is what I found--- from my understanding this looks like Sam would be incahoots with Heidi A mirror is a Web site or set of files on a computer server that has been copied to another computer server so that the site or files are available from more than one place. For files that are popular for downloading, a mirror helps reduce network traffic, ensures better availability of the Web site or files, or enables the site or downloaded files to arrive more quickly for users close to the mirror site. Mirroring is the practice of creating and maintaining mirror sites. A mirror site is an exact replica of the original site and is usually updated frequently to ensure that it reflects the content of the original site. Mirror sites are used to make access faster when the original site may be geographically distant (for example, a much-used Web site in Germany may arrange to have a mirror site in the United States). In some cases, the original site (for example, on a small university server) may not have a high-speed connection to the Internet and may arrange for a mirror site at a larger |
