So, there you have my musings. Realize that one of my hobbies is to launch polemics, such as this one, on internet forums... I do it for fun and I have posted on every subject imaginable and on multiple sides of the political spectrum (I'm often called an equal-opportunity offender). I love pursuing the the art and practice of disputation and debating in forums where controversy exists. So, either take what I have to say to heart, ignore it or respond if you like (and in any way you like). And yes, as one poster pointed out... I am the same Sam Redman, who is a writer of light (sometimes called "pulp"), hopefully entertaining, fiction (but, that doesn't mean everything I write is fictional). I'm honestly happy with any reaction anyone has... hey, I'm just doing it for the fun of internet conversation.
Thanks, Sam. I choose to ignore it.

2BIG, I applaud you on your blog post about Camp Carbaway. The world needs all the safe places for KK refugees it can get. Unfortunately, some feel they'll be attacked if they come here, although history proves that wrong. We aren't angry at KK people. Heck, a lot of us used to be one of them! I think our anger toward Heidi for her lying ways gets misinterpreted as anger at anyone who is there.

That said, the announcement about TT stepping down and handing off the Camp to Heather and Brian, but would still be around.......wasn't that a bit of a blast from the past? Now, I am NOT saying they are up to the same shenanigans Kimmer was up to when she "stepped down", only that it was very reminiscent.

We also have to keep in mind this isn't Heidi's first rodeo. If I remember right, she's got quite a record of "questionable business practices." That alone is enough to make me believe there was never really any good intentions involved in her "helping" here. I was here way back when and I remember some of the things she advised. I ignored it because it didn't sound like something I was willing to even try. It didn't make sense to me. Here I am, years later, a victim of her scam as well, because I believed all the testimonials on her website. I kept reading story after story and thinking "Maybe this is what I need to get my weight loss moving again." If the truth had been told, I would have had the same attitude I'd had previously concerning her advice. I would have simply bypassed it. It was the false testimonials, including Heidi's, that sold me on giving it a try.

Just my worthless 2 cents. But there you have it.
Hey Girl

good to see you popping in here

Some really great people got suckered in by Heidi and her "success" stories you are in good company

I thought that was rather nice of him to "allow" us that option..

My thinking on the whole thing is along the lines of Jo's post---

Mom~

I was semi "active" at KK when Tippy and the others left for the Camp.

I never was told about it or was asked to visit or anything. I would have never known what was going on but I was lurking over here to get the scoop on KK and saw it then.

I was looking for a place to go because I knew I was geting out. I know they didn't let a lot of us that there was a "safe" place to go. The only reason I was brave enough to come here was because I started emailing Mayberry as I remembered her from KK and she was so sweet about it that I got up my courage and started posting.

I would not have followed them anyway as I see Tippy as "Heidi Lite". Brian and Heather were only there for such a short time before they jumped ship that they did not impress me as knowledgeable.

I just often wondered how they culled out who they wanted to "follow" them. Makes me think how many others are still left there because they feel like there is no where else and that's why they stay.

Jo, I wish I knew the answers to your questions. All I know is that TT has extended the open invitation to anyone from KK who wants a place to go. Now, how they are going to SEE that invitation is beyond me. So it's a Catch-22. You're invited to join, but you can't see that invitation. I guess they're relying on word-of-mouth. That's all I can think of.

Lora---you aren't the only one---I have a long history of ED so when I decided to get healthy I got very obsessive. You just have to realize food is more than just fuel for the body. Yes I know many will argue that point. But eating effects all senses. Shouldn't you enjoy it. If you allow it food can nourish more than just your body. It can nourish your spirit. a healthy mind and spirit are just as important(more important in my opinion) as a healthy body.

Food can be appealing to all senses and still be healthful. You don't have to sacrifice one for the other.

It is my understanding that members of the camp are encouraged to invite 10 people each. This is just another way of theirs to keep certain people out.

Jo this cracked me up:

It think it's easier than some may believe, to take things to extremes when you're trying to so hard to get/be healthy. It's a fine line, IMO. There's not a ton of information out there about Orthorexia. There are a lot of sites with info on Orthorexia but it's all basically the same kind of information. At least that's what I found while researching it. I haven't read Dr. Bratman's book on it but have seen good reviews. You may want to check it out.

"Gary's" Questions of the Day..by "Gary"
"NOTE: A few people asked me why there are not more replies to the question of the day. My response was that the point of the question of the day is for others to read whatever is posted and they learn something that they did not know. It does not matter how many people post, what matters is that members who read the thread learn something new from what is posted and get closer to being successful with their weight loss goals."

Dang, "Gary", do you know how hard it is to type with socks on your hands?
Silly girl me! Well, of course you do!
Then again, it's starting to look like there is not much left over there but dust bunnies and crickets and their keyboarding skills are minimal at best.

Kimmer: "I didn't do any formal exercise yesterday, but I'm trying to increase daily activity in general (parking farther away in parking lots, making extra trips up/down stairs and cleaning less efficiently so it's harder or takes longer). Unless there's that magically "first space" that I can't pass up ... it's so rare in crowded California shopping centers!"

Wowwee... Well, lookie who is admitting to doing some housework, running errands etc.
(remember our discussion from last week of Heidi's failure to connect with her "target" audience?)

Hi Amyb! I cannot believe you went to Hawaii without me! YOUR loss!

Jo, see what happens when you give Heidi a clue? Stop it! Oh, well, I'm guilty too. I posted that whole thing about fat and dementia on my blog and gave Heidi the perfect defense for her case. When will I ever learn??

Wouldn't you just love to put a line in your siggy at KK that says -

Silly Heidi! Socks are for feet!

7 -scratch that - 8 reasons why women lose their hair

Quote:
Let me make one thing clear: women, if you are experiencing hair loss, please know that you are not alone!

Women's hair can thin for a variety of reasons, and yet the topic is still far less openly discussed than male hair loss. In many cases, though, the causes are diagnosable and treatable, making it particularly important that women discuss hair loss with their doctors. First, let's consider some common factors that can cause and contribute to hair loss:

1-Low iron levels: Iron deficiency, with or without anemia, can lead to hair loss. Do not simply start taking an iron supplement without having your iron checked by a physician because too much iron can also lead to health problems.

2-Thyroid disorders: Both an overactive and an underactive thyroid can lead to hair loss.

3-Low estrogen levels: Many women experience hair loss during and after menopause, when estrogen levels begin to drop. Other hormonal changes -- changes in oral contraceptive use, for example -- can also trigger hair loss.

4-Post-pregnancy hormonal changes: Similarly, new moms may find that they're shedding a lot of hair in the first one to six months after delivery, when their estrogen levels return to normal. Actually, what seems like excessive hair loss is really hair's natural growth cycle regulating itself, as high hormone levels tend to keep women from losing normal amounts of hair during pregnancy.

5-Telogen effluvium: This is the general term for sudden, temporary hair loss as a result of recent stress or surgery, which typically occurs around two months after the causative event or illness. (It may also be used to describe sudden hair loss as a result of other factors on this list, such as post-pregnancy hormonal changes.)

6-Medications: Many medications may lead to hair loss. If this is a concern, talk to your doctor about potential alternatives.

7-High levels of vitamin A or selenium: There is rarely any reason to take more of these nutrients than you'd find in a good multivitamin.
Several recent studies of men have found that smoking also seems to increase hair loss. I don't know of any similar studies in women, but one thing is clear: Smoking is harmful for a multitude of reasons, whether or not increased hair loss is among them!

The best plan of action for anyone experiencing hair loss is to determine the underlying cause and eliminate it. And the best place to start is a routine physical exam with blood work. By simply drawing your blood, your physician can determine your ferritin (iron) levels, thyroid levels, and estrogen status - and that will already get you far in recognizing or ruling out many of these causes (source: 7 Reasons Women Lose Their Hair on Yahoo! Health)
