restarting kimkins altered program 1/2/08
Hey everyone,
I know Kimkins is a big laugh but I am doing a modified version where I add in some no no foods, I eat more then 500 calories a day, and I don't do enimas, starvation or fasting. I took a break for Christmas and am restarting a kimkins style diet 1/2/08 I eat basically low carb, low cal(1200ish), low fat. I eat eggs, lean protein, low carb yogurt, string cheese, veggies. If you are interested in starting a new support link join in. I have a blog that i write on daily about weight and all that good stuff I'm on a mission to lose the pounds Good Luck to all of you who are in the New Years weight loss mode. Ali |

Good luck with your new eating plan. I'm looking forward to checking out your blog.
Please don't call it Kimkins if it's not! You don't want to lend any credibility to that woman! If you're not doing it the way she taught it, then why call it by her name? Be safe & good luck!!! ![]() |

I started something similar 1/1/08 to try to get my habits back under control. I'm in for a support group, but I'm not comfortable labeling it Kimkins. Could we name it something that's doesn't refer to Kimkins?

I'd call it Stillman's or South Beach. Both are low-fat, low-carb... and written by doctors, if I'm not mistaken.
Best wishes. ![]() |

how about calling it friends ( since this is lowcarbfriends website) doing low carb together and leave the kimkins nutrtionally bankrupt plan out of your new plan?
if you need any help making sure your new plan has all the nutrtion elements kimkins doesn't like EFAs and vits and minerals please check out the building a healthy WOE topic in this section. page 8-10 gets into the fats and why the human body has a daily need for a minimum amount of them. Controlledcarb who has a PhD in nutrtion has posted a lot of great info for fixing the kimkins plan to be healtheir but as Kimmer always stressed if you tweak it it isn't kimkins so again please don't allow her scam to taint your new plan.

I know it isn't kimkins. I know it is my own thing. Because I strated doing kimkins at the start of this whole thing I continue to post here. Thanks to all of you for you comments. I too was a Kimkins.com member and have gone through all this crap with you. I feel terrible that Kimmers felt she needed to lie and cheat all of us. I know the plan I do is more like Stillmans but I still don't know what to call it. For now I will call it my diet. It works for me and I feel good when I am doing it. I finally posted a before and current pic if you click on my profile. I know this diet stuff is terrible and confusing. I know that it is a daily challenge and a mind game with yourself. It took me 11 years to find an eating plan that worked for me. Call it what you want doesn't matter to me. I just know it works and I am a happier person now. Good luck to all of you in this mission. (By the way I am not trying to sound mean at all I jsut still get upset about the whole kimkins thing.) Thanks again to all of you for the support and well wishes

Good for you, Alli! I applaud your healthy efforts in weight loss! The truth is, who doesn't want to try what seems to be a miracle cure? And then what the heck-- you find out that the plan was made up by a fat chick?! Who never lost the weight according to people who knew her? OMG. It just ticks me off, really. Her camel toe alone is bigger than the Erie Canal.
Go with Stillman's, hot mama! |

AliB - Please know that I can understand being tired of debating over the Kimkins diet and discussing the name may feel like splitting hairs. I only ask that you consider how the loose reference to as the diet being done could effect someone.
![]() Your weight loss is outstanding and you look wonderful. Your way of eating may be balanced because you realized the lack of macronutrients and calories in the KK diet.I do hope you have calculated calories and nutrients that you are getting in a day with your plan, because I know I was surprised when I crunched numbers while doing KK. You may know why the kk diet is not healthy, but not everyone does. There are people who will be in the same position many of us were in when we first started joined kimkins. They will not know that the diet is dangerous and they will not realize the owner has no concern for their health when giving incorrect advice. But their motives may be just like ours when we first started Kimkins WOE. They will have weight to lose and may want some of the following; they want guidance, they want to take control of their lives, they want to be healthy, they want to be seen for who they are, they want support while dieting, they want to make new friends in the process, they want to be around others that understand their daily struggles with being obese, they don't to worry if something in their closet will fit-when they are asked to an event, they don't want to worry if the the hostess will sit them at the tiny booth, they want to live a fulfilling life and not be judged due to their weight. They deserve those things. We all deserve those things. I think you, doing your diet plan, deserve those things too, but let's not risk the chance of someone thinking that Kimkins is what you are doing. Let's say someone, I am going to call her Hope, skimmed the thread looking for a new diet for 2008. Then causally at work, during lunch, Hope mentions that she is looking into starting a new diet and that some diet she saw sounded great. The friends and colleagues at the table ask, "What is the name of the diet?" I mean that is the first thing someone asks, right. Hope thinks and then recalls the term "Kimkins"....Because the name sticks in one's mind with its light, fluffy, cuteness. It almost reminds me of some child's precious nickname, like "punkin" or even a new character on Sprout tv. But for whatever reason the name lingers in the mind with its harmless sound. "Yes, that was the name....Kimkins." Hope says, relieved that she could remember. "I need to read more but the girl doing it had great before and after pics.".....Hope, sighs and then smiles as she dreams of the jeans she will buy when she sheds her extra 50 pounds. Well, Hope doesn't come back to LCF to read more, because she got too busy, worked too many hours, or like many she decided to delay her weight loss journey, because life got in the way. At least that was the excuse. However, another person at the table does decide to dedicate herself to losing the extra 40 pounds that seem to have stuck around after having her children. She has been meaning to get the weight off, but it just seemed to be harder now then when she lost weight in her 20's. But this time it is going to be different. This New Year she decides to do something for herself, not "mama", but for her- the woman that she knows is still in there. She gets home from work and then her second job starts-being a wife and mother. She helps the kids with homework, starts dinner, starts a load of laundry and folds the clothes in the dryer from that morning's wash. Does the dishes from dinner, drags the children from outside and being the "mean Mama" she is makes them take a bath and even brush their teeth. Then tucks the kids into their beds with stories and kisses for each one. Then off to the kitchen to fix lunch boxes for school the next day. That is when she remembers the conversation from lunch about that diet. Now, what did Hope say...kimkins?? Yep, that was it. I have to start a diet she thinks- as she licks the remnants of peanut butter off the knife. She is exhausted but doesn't want to forget, so she sits down at the computer types in Kimkins in her MSN homepage and goes directly to Kimkins.com........... So what is in a name or what does it matter? That is for you to decide, but I know that we all deserve to not be deceived by kimkins. I wish you continued success in your "mission to lose the pounds" and hope to see you on the board. ![]()

Hi Honeybee,
I can totally see where you are coming from. I was the chick on the beach at 217 pounds reading WOmans world looking for the miracle answer. I got home from vacation and went online about as soon as I walked in the door. Once i learned that Kimkins was all drama and starvation I changed to a higher calorie diet and ate stuff that kimmers would die too add on to her diet. I siad before that I post here because we are all in the same boat of being decived. I now know that what I am eating is more like South Beach but you are all the people who I have shared with from the beggining. I don't ever tell people I am doing Kimkins. I say I am doing Low carb low fat. Thanks for watching out for us. ![]() Ali |

Hi Ali: You are doing great in the weight loss! Good for you! I too am a Kimkins refuge (was banned in July). I never followed her starvation plan - but followed my doctor's diet (from 1970). There was no limit on fat or calories - but it was close to zero carbs.
Good luck to you on getting the last few pounds off. You will be HOT this summer or should I say spring? ![]() P.S. Edited to say: I just looked at your before/after pictures and oh my goodness you look fabulous!!!!! You don't even look like the same gal and sooooo much younger. By the way your husband is very handsome.

Thanks so much for the comment on my before and after. I swear I feel fat still mentally. I use pics like these so that I can see I actually have lost weight. I never used to get carded and not I do all the time. Gotta love being thinner.
Thanks again, Ali |

Thx Ali! I think you may be able to handle a little more natural sugar in food than me just yet (not quite ready for bananas and that stuff cause I'd become an eating machine
) Would you care to share with me how you make that stir fry you mentioned? I've been doing this LC thing for years and have never managed to incorporate cabbage like I know I could/should. TIA!!! |

I take basically any veggies I have in the fridge. Mushrooms, onion, celery, zucchini, you name it throw it in.
In a wok or big Wok add shrimp, chicken and meat and cook all the way through ( you can use tofu instead of meat) Remove the meat to a plate and put about 3 tb. of stock or water. Add all your veggies and finely cut long strands of cabbage. Add a little splash of soy sauce and fishsauce if you have it. Once all the veggies are cooked scoot them to the sides of the pan and add 2scrambled eggs to the middle of the pan. Cook the egg through and then mix into all the veggies, add the meat back in and salt and pepper to taste. Sounds a little strange but it is pretty yummy. It is not k/e it is a modifiied recipe that I used once I added veggies and low carb stuff back in a little. Enjoy |

That sounds Yummy! Sounds great for what I'm doing (just basically trying to eat clean, KWIM) 'cept I don't know about the fish sauce - is it carby? Where can I find it? Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. I get too excited about new dinner ideas ![]() |

The fish sauce is in the ethnic isle of the grocery store. It has 1 carb per serving. It is really fishy smelling so you use just a splash. Most of the time I use low sodium soy alone and no fish sauce.
Last night we made ground turkey taco's that were so yummy. I use ground turkey and Laury's taco seasoning. I use a romain leaf instead of a tortilla and fill it with the turkey, onion, tomato, cilantro, a tiny bit of avocado, tiny bit of cheese, and a tiny bit of sour cream and taco sauce. With all the ingrediants you hardly can tell that you are eating a lettace leaf. Very filling and really yummy. |

It's too early to be making me drool
(That's a lie, I've been looking forward to my splurge of cheeseburger on rev. rolls for lunch since I woke up )I'm gonna check out the fish sauce when I go to the store this weekend. Love the taco idea, I've made it with ground chx before, but not turkey I don't think - and I have some in my freezer, may have to try that tonight. That reminded me of a fish "taco" recipe I've got, too, that's got a veggie topping with asparagus and peppers and lots of yummies. May have to dig out that recipe and see about LCing it w/ the romaine wrap. It's been so long since I did serious LC for any amt of time that I'd forgotten about those handy little lettuce leaves ![]()
