One thing you asked about, what's up with the "ducks"......when things started smelling really fishy over at the Kimkins place, there was a blog started by one or more people, calling themselves "Just Ducky". It became a thorn in Kimmer's ample side and she began to distrust and ban anyone using a duck avatar at her site. Never mind, the duck was simply one of the basic avatar options, and most of the people she banned were probably innocent.

At any rate, the duck reference grew to where those involved in exposing her call themselves the "Duck Detectives", and there have been several different ways of expressing ourselves as ducks. Then Kimmer started blaming one person for her troubles, that being Cutie. I don't know how that got started, but Betty Boop was chosen as representing her. So for a while, you saw a lot of Betty Boop avatars. So mine is a combination - a duck that looks like Betty Boop. We are Kimmer's worst nightmare.

I do believe you are correct in that assessment. As far as I can see, SWSNBN did the cycling thing, and she recommends it to this day.

So isn't it ironic that she ended up being the PR for Kimkins and went on national TV to defend it??

I think they are talking about Jeannie Baitinger, former PR of Kimkins, known here at LCF as TippyToes (or Flippy, depending on who you ask).

No I think you are right. and now that I am thinking more about it and after Bama gal posted that link about Ketogenic diet: how to eat the correct amount of protein for your body weight and how much fat is needed, I am starting to think maybe TT's huge long stall was because it was done wrong!
the too much protein eating, as was stated upthread!!!
ETA OH! it was you Barbara and Carolyn who said it!!!!

I'm sorry to all you ducks with a dial-up connection. So, I've trimmed my duck down in size. I love him! And he is sitting on our new dining room baker's rack piece, which was just delivered on Dec. 28!

I'd say hypocritical is the word for it.

TinaBina, we call her SWSNBN because she thrives on attention, and some of us refuse to fill that need.

I'm not sure that "done wrong" is the right way to say it. I think our bodies have set points. Call it a stall, a plateau, whatever you want, but we have plateaus on the way up the scale as well as down. I have read that when you reach a weight that you had maintained for a while on the way up, that is where you will stall out and maintain for a while on the way down. Jimmy was right on when he said that it is the impatient who get all bent out of shape when this happens. Then they start to look for ways to trick nature. Unfortunately, too many of them are turning to KK and other plans like it.

In my experience, when I eat too much protein I not only stall I start getting food cravings again. I've read that it's because the extra protein converts to glucose, spiking insulin, ect - even though I am no doctor this makes sense. I have just found that the ketogenic way of eating (high fat/mod protein/low carb) works tons better for me.

I'm not diabetic, so I could have this wrong, but I seem to remember a discussion not too long ago about needing to stay within certain amounts of protein to avoid increasing the dosage of insulin~ that it's not just the carbs~ it's also excess protein that affects insulin needs.

Maybe someone can come in and clarify~ if I'm correct on this, it just makes KK all the more dangerous for diabetics~ eating too much protein in an effort to up calories without adding fat or carbs could really mess up someone's blood sugar!

Comical mis-reading

Everytime I see this siggy statement
'"Is it too late to take that back?" - Heidi Diaz in deposition"

I misread the final word as "desperation." Even after I corrected myself, it still looks like that to me.

People with diabetes are prone to kidney problems as well. High protein diets are very hard on the kidneys, so diabetics are better off going the ketogenic route.

Now there is something that he said that I agree with!

No matter which diet or WOE I'm on, when I'm doing it properly and losing weight, I never lose anything for 3 weeks, then suddenly drop 5 pounds over the course of a few days, then I don't lose again for another 3 weeks before dropping 5 pounds. Over and over again. Kimmer disagreed with that theory many many moons ago and implied that those of us who lost weight in that way were 'doing something wrong'.

Patience! Patience with weight loss, patience with waiting 6 months before trying SF chocolate, patience with giving your body time to react to exercise, patience with allowing your body to lose inches but not weight, etc, etc, etc.

Terry, I looked that up on the Net, and although orthodox nutritionists were aghast at high protein diets (we must be balanced with carbs and low fats, y'know), researchers reported that people with healthy kidneys have no trouble with high protein, but watch out! people with damaged kidneys. Although not yet diabetic (thanks, Dr. A), 2 close relatives died of kidney failure, and I recall the strict guidelines for protein back then. And my own kidney function is declining; so I'm cutting the protein and upping the fats. Better safe than sorry!
