I'm not sure....

Hello everyone! I'm looking for some advice. Let me first tell you a little background.

I recently had a baby in July and I'm stuggling to lose 20 pounds. I was watching the Mike and Juilet Show the other day and heard the discussion on Kimkins. I did a little research on my own and decided this IS something I want to try. I don't want to do it long-term, just short-term and then slowly switch to Sonoma or South Beach.

I'm not sure if I really want to throw down $60 bucks to join this program but I guess I will if I have to. I'm not sure if now is a good time to join because of the holidays right around the corner. Would it be wise to join now or should I wait until after Thanksgiving and Christmas? From what I understand, the program offers you a "free day". I'm also going to be taking vitamin supplements. My hair has been falling out ever since I gave birth, so the thought of MORE hair coming out makes me have nightmares! Does anyone have any recommendations on a good multi-vitamin? I was thinking about going to GNC and purchasing a vitamin specifically for skin, hair, and nails.

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. I was initially scared to post on this forum for fear of being stoned to death! I know this diet is very controversial but I believe I can handle it ok. Thanks!

Sorry, but the most helpful advice I can give you is not to do Kimkins. This simply is not a healthy plan. You will not get the vitamins, minerals, and fats your body needs. Supplementing with a general multi isn't a substitute for real, natural nutrients. Especially if you're breast feeding, you need to ensure that you're getting the right nutrients and a correct level of calories.

If you want to do South Beach or Sonoma, why not start with them? Or even start with Atkins.

Good luck finding something that works for you and is healthy for you and your little one.

Kimkins diet has some serious side effects even if done short term. You just had a baby why would you want to risk your life with this diet. What was not said on the show was there have been women that have been hospitalized because of this diet, they have heart problems digestive problems and other serious side effects. Please reconsider and do a diet that doesn`t have all these side effects. There are a lot of diets that you still can lose weight on and they won`t hurt your body. By the way I was on the kimkins diet so I am speaking with first hand knowledge. Mel

WOE: Good clean Atkins induction!!
I'm taking just a woman's one-a-day type vitamin. Prenatals were nasty so I switched to these around 24 weeks and delivered a healthy baby girl. She's 20 weeks old today and I'm trying to get off the waaay too much baby weight I gained. I know I'll be flamed, but here I go.

I started LCing a few weeks after I gave birth. I lost 3 pounds almost immediately and then nothing. Even being LC faithful, I checked my calorie count one day and it was over 3000. I was disgusted. Being an all-or-nothing girl, I have a hard time taking a bite of one thing and letting it go. Snacks are a huge problem. I do much better having breakfast, having lunch, and having dinner. If I start to eat something in between I become a monster. I'd easily go through a jar of peanut butter in three days or 8 ounces of cream cheese in one. Best not to start snacking. If I think I'm starving, I'll have something. I can go past my 10 am snack time without eating if I'm not hungry. Why let the clock rule me?

I'm not sold on watching fat and cutting it back so much. However, I do believe that I have to watch calories. Others may not. Eating clean is best for me. If I'm happy with eggs for breakfast, salad at lunch, and a lean meat at dinner, then I'm happy.

I have every intention of watching my calories. They won't be borderline anorexic low, just lower. No LC treats. Clean food, good calories.

Best advice I can give is dont' do Kimkins until you have checked out the "Fascination with Kimmer" threads listed under Other. I wouldn't advise anyone to do this program. She advocates starvation level eating, and there are serious risks associated with Kimkins. Do a search on Kimmer or Fascination to get the full scoop. There is currently a lawsuit against this plan.

There are other plans out there that don't have half the risks Kimkins has. Why not try Induction on Atkins?

read the making it healthy WOE topic in this forum so you can leave how to tweak the kimkins plan with more total cals and healthier veggies and the EFAs our bodies need. Kimmer had no training in metabolism nor nutrition and her facts are voodoo. Having body fat will not take care of all your body 's fat needs We have minimum EFAs we need every day as you will learn in the making it healthy WOE. then decide if you need to risk permanent damage to your organs, bones and tissues so you will be smaller. you can get all the free low carbing help you need here on this site
Building a healthy WOE (if possible) based on Kimkins

I think it is a total waste of money when any info you could glean from the website you could get here for free. Seriously. If there are some aspects you want to use get it here and don't waste your money supporting a pathological liar and fraud. Most people who forked their money over like myself never could follow it without modification anyway. And some of the women on that forum are absolute raving lunatics rabidly supportive of Heidi and you can not ask any serious questions without getting jumped on. Save your money.

I think you should do a lot of reading about any plan before you make a choice.
But the choice is ultimately yours to make ... so don't let yourself be intimidated.

Good luck to you whatever you choose.

Stats: Over 130 pounds lost!
If you are just starting dieting you need to start with Atkins. I have lost 126 pounds on that program and have none of the side affects that people have had on kimkins. Even the PR of the kimkins site Jeannie or Tippy Toes (who was on the show) lost the majority of HER weight on Atkins though it seems that she isn't being clear that she only used kimkins when she stalled on Atkins after losing a tremendous amount of weight on Atkins.. She lost just her last pounds on kimkins and goes back and forth from Atkins to Kimkins because her thryroid is messed up and she can't add in food without gaining. I have lost weight at a steady pace and it takes a lot for me to gain weight because my metabolism is very healthy (per Colette Heimowitz of the Atkins Center) .... I have seen several people that had done kimkins complain that they can't eat "normal" without gaining. So please.. if you want to lose your weight try Atkins first... I believe that all beginners should start there. If you later want to try kimkins there is no need to pay that price to do it.... ALL the information is right here on this site for free. Why pay for something you can get here along with the best support around. Stay here and we will help you lose weight.

No, don't let yourself be intimidated, but please DO let yourself be informed...fully informed. Also listen...really listen...and pay close attention to what is being said. Don't just take the information you find with a grain of salt. You've got too much at stake for that. If you do decided to give it a go, make sure you thoroughly discuss your plans with a trusted doctor and see what he suggests. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Sincerely,
Tish (a former hard headed Kimkins member)

Brendan: Atkins is the gold standard for LC lifestyle and weight loss. Get the book and read it so you understand how LC should work for you. LC should not be lowfat (like KK), because that forces your body to get your energy from protein. This is NOT a good thing at all, researches shows. Fat is your friend, girl..The classic percentage for Atkins
and other LC plans are 10-15 percent carbs/20-25 percent protein/60-70 percent fat.

Use FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and get a handle on what works for you.

In regards to hair loss, it is normal to lose all of the hair that did not fall out during pregnancy (notice how little came out while you were pregnant!) for about 6 months post partum. It should taper off about then, but not on Kimkins. There are numerous threads and complaints about hair loss on Kimkins, so if it is a true concern for you, do try Atkins or another LC WOE.

Another tip, from someone in the same boat "hair wise", is to add the supplement Biotin. It supports hair and nail growth. I purchase it at Walmart for about $6 for a 3 month supply. Worth every penny!

Good luck!
