There is a unique mentality on Kimkins. It's fairly simple. "It works for me so I don't care about anything else". Yeah, it's working for them now, but they will sooner or later suffer the consequences IF they are doing Kimkins as written. Also, I suspect some of these people are mere sock puppets/paid posters.

For one thing, nobody, I don't care who you are, can subsist on that plan "as written" meaning approx. 700 calories a day (and much lower as we all know many practice or have Fitdays to prove) for months on end with ZERO ill effects. I simply do not believe it's humanly possible. I have screenshots of many who are supposedly eating somewhere between 300-500 calories a day. You can't tell me these are real people, or that they can keep this up month after month and not suffer dire consequences.

For another thing. There really ARE a bunch of Kimkinites who have tweaked the plan way out of shape and are probably doing some version of Atkins or South Beach. They may claim it's Kimkins. They may hang with other Kimkinites and stay on the KK forum but we all know, it ain't Kimkins. They are the ones probably doing fairly well, since as we all also know, there's nothing life-threatening about Atkins or South Beach. This is confusing to a lot of outsiders, but it's a fact. This is a very vocal group on Kimkins and also here on LCF. The irony of the fact that "if you tweak it it isn't Kimkins" is totally lost on these folks.

As in insider, I can tell you that there are many posts in which people are bemoaning losing hair, not a little or a lot but BIG CLUMPS of hair falling out. There are many posts asking why they are so dizzy, people falling down stairs, etc. There are several posters who have gone to the ER with heart palpitations and electrolyte imbalances. I think a lot of these people eventually figure it out and get out of Dodge. You see a lot of them on Jimmy Moore's board because they have friends from Kimkins that "pull them out" to get help.

There are also a lot of people there (or were) who stay buried in their Challenge threads and don't pay any attention to the media storm swirling outside Kimkins. They are unaware of the TV programs and the blogs and sites and the Fascination thread here at LCF, truly!

Then, there are the ones who can't do the program but keep trying it. They try, they fail, they binge, they go back and try again.
What they don't know is the binging is likely to be saving their health! Ironic.

And the saddest part of all is, there are newbies constantly signing on. I think that's what makes me sickest of all.

All that to say, while a very few of them probably can be classified as "total morons", there is really an explanation of why many reasonably smart people stay in Kimkins. Strange though it may seem....

Absolutely! There are certain people who seem to be able to attract loyal followers, and Kimmer/Heidi is one of them. These people have a charisma that is hard to explain and even harder to understand. She plays what someone in this thread called the "tickle, tickle, slap, I love you" strategy. I thought it really hit on exactly what she does to people. I've seen it here, and I've seen it at KK too. It is amazing to us, having been away from her for a while, that people fall for her lines and come back for more. Even knowing that she did not lose the weight and keep it off for five years as she claimed to, knowing that she fabricated before and after stories/pictures, including her own, knowing she did not deliver on her promise to publish the "e-book", knowing that she has banned anyone who dared to cross her, they still put her on a pedestal. They still clamor for her presence to the point of saying silly things like "welcome home, mommy!" when she makes her reappearance. It's a complete head scratcher to understand why some people get it and others don't, but even harder to understand why intelligent people fell for her scheme in the first place.

I probably wasn't clear enough in my post. Supporting and staying on Kimkins is one thing. Is it bad and unhealthy...yes, but I can understand supporting something that works for you.
I was referring to the people that are DIE HARD supporters of Kimmer herself. I believe they are either "morons" or have serious mental problems (cough *fawn*).

And I've been here for years, I remember the horrendous advice Kimmer used to give. Even though I knew it was bad, and I could not understand why she had such a following, in my real life it did affect me. I would think, "I can eat less, it'll be fine. People on LCF are doing it all the time with no problems." I got down to eating very little. Now....I struggle to lose half a pound.

ITA!! And going further:

I believe co-dependence has a lot to do with it. If you don't know about co-dependence, it will make no sense. People who were not raised in dysfunctional environments can't wrap their minds around it. A person with healthy emotional boundaries is not a sitting duck (heheh) for a person like Kimmer.

But let's say, you were raised by a person who exhibited some of Hidey Diaz' traits, such as narcissistic personality or alcoholism. The "come closer so I can slap you" or "tickle, tickle, slap, I love you" message is ONE YOU GREW UP with. It was painful, but you relate--even subconsciously. Mom or Dad did this to you, so, although it's painful, it feels "familiar" We all know that many people still have that "child inside" longing for a pat on the back, and confirmation that Mom or Dad really did love them, cares for them and has the answers for their problems.

Now add to that, the burden of overweight. You feel like a failure, you know your health is suffering, you don't look as good as you would like to, society disapproves of your appearance. All the "stuff" that goes along with our excess fat. Maybe you've tried and failed numerous times. You are getting desperate to lose this weight! "You are ready to try ANYTHING". (do you hear the scary music in the background yet??)

Along comes a psychopath/narcissist/manipulator like Hidey Diaz. She knows how to play the part of Mom or Dad well. She woos you in with soft words and a confident, competent adult manner- telling you exactly what you want to hear at first, but it's just a "Come Into My Web Said The Spider to the Fly" type of manipulation.

She has a need to FEED off of your "inner child" adulation. You have the need to adulate someone, to idolize someone, to be told what to do and when to do it. You need someone with ANSWERS!!

SHE has the need to be idolized, to tell others what to do and when to do it. And in this case, although they were all lies, she has all the ANSWERS. Perfect fit.

Well that's my armchair psychology theory, anyhoo!

(On the Fascination thread, Becky also just posted in the last couple pages a psychologist's view that's interesting to read and sounds right on the money to me).

I think Fawn is pretty much a majority of one I understand what you're saying too, because I still struggle with it myself. I can't lose weight to save my life. I lost it on Kimkins and since trying other plans and adding back fats and calories, I'm stalled. For months I'm stalled. We seem to be in the same boat
