OMG! Run away! Take JoSkids advice. Google Kimkins and read the pros and cons. The creator of this diet is being sued and her success stories (almost all) have proven to be fake. There are many other low carb plans that offer a way to lose weight, but still stay healthy.

This website is a great resource. Please, do your homework!

Good luck!

LJ - just saw you ask for specifics. The Kimkins diet is nutritionally bankrupt. The "covergirl' for the plan, Christin Sherburne (blog The Journey) did the KK's plan successfully for several months before her hair started falling out and she lost her menstrual cycle. She was starving herself on the KK's plan. They advocate taking in around 800 calories per day. It's like a concentration camp diet.

Anyway, I would encourage you to look at the many, many websites that have personal stories of for KK's members. I am a former member. I knew something was wrong when my own hair started falling out and I was freezing all the time which is totally abnormal for me. Be healthy!

The diet is dangerous and was created by a fraud who lied about her weight losses and has put several people in the hospital as a result. Run awy. Screaming if necessary.

You need to decide what will work for you. I recommend you NOT doing Kimkins. Please read about it on LCF and google info on it. It is dangerous!

you can read the making it healthy WOE if possible topic in this forum Building a healthy WOE (if possible) based on Kimkins and learn for free from a low carb Ph D in nutrtion why the plan as written is nutrtionally bankrupt and what changes to the plan you can make to make it a healthier low carb plan but in the end you will end up back at Atkins where Kimmer started since Dr Stillman her other plaguerized plan says his paln should only be done for 2 weeks as it is dangerous to do it longer.

I did kimkins for the first 2-3 weeks of my weight loss journey. I did give me the jumpstart I needed. I did not have any negative experiences. I know people who have stayed on it for months have had negative experiences. If you do it, don't follow it to a tee (yes, I know all you people if you change it, it isn't Kimkins blah blah blah) because it really doesn't provide for enough protein for a morbidly obese person. Also, it says "just enough fat to make the diet work". I did not interpret this as no fat, as many who had the most negative experiences interpreted it. I interpreted it as enough to make my diet work, which meant I would have a pat of butter to cook my eggs and I would have a dollop of mayo with my chicken or turkey.

A plan like this is too regimented and restrictive to provide any long term success. You can just as easily lose weight by portion control and eating foods void of hfcs, sugar, white flour, and starch. I have lost most of my weight doing this. Anyway, if you do a plan like this, maybe you should check out Stillmans thread. Stillmans does not have the same negative association that Kimkins does although it is almost the same plan. Even stillman's should not be done longer than for a few weeks stretch.

Please remember that Kimmer/Heidi the person the diet is named after, did not loose her weight doing this diet. In fact, she didn't loose any weight at all, she looks to be 300+ pounds in real life. So her advice is fraudlent.

WOE: Kimkins :(
Start Date: 10/22/07
I started Kimkins on Oct. 22. I was supposed to have a huge weight loss, especially in the beginning. I've lost 3 pounds ONLY. Total. My calories are 500-600 and my carbs are 10-11 per day. I must be doing something wrong.

Yeah, you are missing one small tiny little thing.

You need to eat!!!!!! 500-600 calories is insane and highly unhealthy.

Good Point. Problem is...with this diet, I'm really NOT hungry...then the prospect of eating YET ANOTHER piece of bland meat or lifeless green lettuce does NOTHING for the appetite. Tonight I cheated a bit for the first time but everyone I know is really concerned about my eating. I still didn't quite make 600 calories but I had 21 carbs!

I wonder what other low-carb people do when faced with this issue.

(Im dying for a piece of bread!)

Marilyn, You have to eat to lose weight. Right now, you are losing muscle mass and this is not a good thing..You have lost your appetite, but that is NOT a good thing. Please eat at least 1200 calories or you will get sick like many of these gals did..

read the making it healthy topic so you know why eating KIMKINS as written is not healthy for you and we can not just shed the weight and fix the body afterwards. Building a healthy WOE (if possible) based on Kimkins

Bland meat? Lifeless lettuce? I wouldn't be hungry either! Gurl, you need something you can do FOR LIFE! Not something just to get you into a smaller jean.

Eat your fat! Fat is the best hunger satiator, ounce for ounce. Plus it gives you enjoyment of your food, calories and essential fatty acids for skin, hair eye and cellular health. Your body will start to cannabalize itself and not in a good way, if your body is lacking in nutrients, not to mention that whole "SNATTY, feeling like dog poo", can't go to the potty issues you are likely to have.

And bread? Not worth it. Tasteless guck. Go get yourself some low carb, intensly flavored food with fat in it, eat up and enjoy! You are worth it!

Thanks for your responses.

I got my calories up to 800 today and my carbs to 19. Its going to be gradual, but I'm trying.

As for the meat and lettuce...yes, its lifeless. On top of trying to go low carb, I'm also a very picky eater. I hate chicken of all kinds and have to choke it down. Most of the allowable vegetables on the list, I wont eat. I know it's childish, and I am 40 years old...but thats me. I also can't stand even the sight of tuna. Most sauces (flavor) are forbidden...so it's hard even to mask the taste of these things.

honey---chuck KK and eat some real food---make a good wine reduction sauce for your protein sources----use some cashew butter/almond butter/coconut oil on some veggies

EAT food---your body is feasting on muscles now with so few calories going in---your HEART is a muscle---so you are literally eating your heart out

take 2Big's advice--go to the healthy eating thread

I went to that healthy living threat...still trying to make my way through it. Something interesting happend...yesterday I ate whatever I wanted (tho I didn't have any chocolate, sweets, etc.) When I got up this morning, I'd lost a pound!

I've been getting the calories to 900 range and carbs 15-20.

Oddly tho-I feel WORSE when I get that much.

Taking some ideas from that "Building a Healthy WOE..." ...I've been making an effort to drink more water and eat smaller meals more often. We'll see whats happening. I know NOTHING was happening before.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

After a month or so on Kimkins, I binged on carbs because KK is so depriving. Gained back all I had lost on it. Why are you asking? Have you tried Atkins induction and not had success with it? I highly recommend you try a less drastic program than Kimkins. KK is actually a slight variation of Dr. Stillman's Quick Weight Loss program. Even he said you shouldn't do his plan for more than two weeks. But then again he was a doctor, and Kimmer is not. Please don't follow a plan written by someone who is unqualified to dispense nutritional advice.
