3. She specifically mentioned learning of Kimkins in the PEOPLE MAGAZINE "Half Their Weight" story. Methinks People Magazine needs an update! Anybody been in touch with them? They are the most credible media venue I know of to have been duped by Heidi (Sorry, WW is big, but I've never held them in much more esteem than I would any other newsstand rag - and their actions once they learned they'd published a stolen russian mail order bride photo on their front cover has been less than impressive!).

You can contact people magazine by email at Editor@people.com

Mary (Cartbabe) is the only one featured in People who mentioned Kimkins. She did not say she lost her weight on it, but People made it sound like she did, which really upset her.

FitGu seems to be a different person IMO. This person can actually spell and use good grammar. At least not the blatant mistakes of the other 2.

Being an admin on a weight loss board is just like being an admin on any other kind of board. He's there for the rules of the forum, not a cover-boy for the plan.

He's not portraying himself as a Kimkins expert or success story; he's an admin who's trying to follow the plan.

Knowing the plan and following the plan successfully are two different things. I know a LOT about Atkins, but I haven't made it to goal (I'm actually off-plan right now, but getting back on shortly), and I feel comfortable dispensing advice. I'm upfront about my status, and people can take or leave my words. He may be in the same situation.

Regardless, he's there to uphold the TOS, not as a Kimkins expert, so when he gives advice, the members can take it as they would from any other long-term member.

JMO.

Echoing others who are asking when this was confirmed? I don't remember getting confirmation, just speculation based on proximity.

Yes, she WAS the owner (or maybe it was Brandon, I'm having a brain fart right now), but when it was sold, re-registered, whatever, the company information is hidden for a certain period--someone else said 60 days--so since the first ownership check, the ownership has changed, and isn't accessible at the moment. If/When someone gets a subpoena, the information will again be available.

I hated the Carb Control yogurt, but I LOVE yogurt, so I buy plain whole milk yogurt from Trader Joe's or the supermarket, add Splenda and/or DaVinci syrup, and eat up. It's better than any other yogurt for me, because I can flavor it just as I want at that moment. Add some vanilla extract, get vanilla yogurt, add a dash of lemon juice, get lemon yogurt, add a dollop of SF jam, or a spoonful of flax, etc. YUMMY. Very low carb, too. Just don't get low fat or ( ) fat-free, get the whole milk version.

IMHO, its either Dr Mark and Fitness Guru are one in the same or because they know we are so good and will figure out who Fitness Guru is in no time at all if given even one little piece of info It took about 10 mins to figure out who Dr (?) Mark was.

Oh, just thought of a third one....could be because they are a bunch of liars(which we know they are) and he/she isn't real (but I think this is least likely???)

Well,
First of all, your loss to date has been great!

Body fat % can be determined in a few ways, some easy, some cheap, some expensive and some in between.

Easiest - Get a scale that measures bodyfat electrically. You calibrate it to your body type and height, it sends a current through your body that you cannot feel, and comes up with a percentage _base_d on resistance. Not the most accurate but pretty good. $34.99 at target!
That is probably the best method if you are over 200lbs.

Once you get down in weight - Skin caliper measurements. You can find a kit for around $10 that includes all you need to take the readings on your own...except a friend....for those hard to reach places. Very accurate. They also do this at health clubs.

Most accurate and expensive - hydrostatic testing. The weigh you under water and above, mostly neked, with all air out of the lungs to determine almost exact %. If you aren't trying out for the olympic team it really isn't necessary.

Bodyfat is really a much better determiner than pure weight.

Muscle takes up much less space than fat pound for pound. As you get close to target listen to what the clothes or bodyfat say and not the scales.

Dr. Mark

Okay, How does the doc know what they got at Target? Does he shop there too?

I'm gonna get that caliper thing for $10.00. Could someone help me for the hard to reach areas? (insert skeleton with gatorade pic here)

ok, really. His writing style is soooo much like Kimmer's that cant be right. The way he throws in the 'LOL' s and the little jokes stuck in there, and definitely talking about buying something at Target ....just sticking that in there, sounds soooo like her. it is weird.

I have given a great deal of thought to what others have commented in regards to what I said up there. Perhaps I was a bit flippant and not very nice, however I still stand by my indignation at the whole idea of this person being in charge over there. On a diet board that I have paid for a membership of, where the diets originator has backed off, I expect those that step in to take her place as advice givers to have some expertise at the diet, if he is not able to make the diet work, as TT isn't since she appears to keep losing and gaining the same pounds*others have pointed this out I've not paid much attention to her weight* then I have issue with him stepping into a role on a paid site that puts him in the perceived position of poster boy for the diet, and yes to me it is a perception. He may not be shouting from the rooftops that he has expertise, but his role, on a paid site, gives the perception of some sort of authority.
Of course on a free board, such as this one or the number of others I am involved with, I don't have the expectations that I do on one I have paid for.

Since they took away the 'expert' kimmer, they can atleast provide admins with expertise.

This also is JMO, I clearly expressed it poorly the first time lol

I can't wait to read what Dr mark updates on the body fat measures.

Hey Lynn-
I have no problem answering your questions. I have been in the fitness industry for about 8 years. I have my BS in Exercise Science and two national certifications (NASM, AFAA). I started working in large health clubs where I was a personal trainer and then moved into a Fitness Manager role. Now I own a personal training studio in Florida with full intentions of opening multiple locations.
It is a great industry to be in. I have met a ton of amazing people and to help them reach their health and fitness goals...it is a wonderful feeling.

AFAA personal trainer certification can be obtained with a THREE DAY course

from their website

WHAT IS IT?
A three-day certification workshop including lectures, practical demonstrations and written and practical exams. Although this course will help prepare you for both AFAA's Personal Fitness Trainer Certification and the Personal Fitness Trainer National Boards, successful completion of the course does not guarantee you will pass either examination. The curriculum includes:

Anatomy and kinesiology
Fitness assessment testing procedures (3-minute Step test, sit-and-reach, push-up, abdominal crunch, body composition screening with skin-fold caliper measurement)
Nutrition fundamentals and weight management
Special populations and medical considerations
Listening, leadership and motivational skills
Exercise programming in the weight room
Wellness programming and screening guidelines
WHO IS IT FOR?

For the aspiring and experienced fitness professional working one-on-one with exercise clients.

Early registration and pre-study is required.
Weightroom/weight training experience is strongly recommended.
WHAT DOES IT COST?

The workshop fee is $459* (less a 10% discount for current AFAA members). This fee includes:

3-day Certification Workshop
Personal Fitness Trainer Certification Study Guide
One-year AFAA membership ($68 value) or membership extension to current members and a subscription to American Fitness magazine (does not include postage to addresses outside the U.S.)
AFAA Certified Personal Fitness Trainer certificate and I.D. card (upon successful completion of both written and practical examinations) CPR certification required before certificate is issued.
