Hi There!

I'd just like to let you know I've received the memo regarding new ownership, and I am awaiting your formal introduction.

As crazy as the events of the past week have been, the ironic truth is that this plan actually works. I believe some "tweeks" may be in order, just as each of us who has experienced the diet has had to do the same.

I would like to know your intentions in running the site, and I would like to submit some suggestions.

I would appreciate a pm or email with how you may be contacted.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing more news soon.

Jill

Starvation via Gastric Bypass vs. Kimkins

So the choices are starvation or junk food? And if you can't starve yourself you're a sissy. I think this sums up the whole philosophy of this disgusting sham of a "diet".
Sorry this got way more involved than I meant it to...but I did it so here it is :-)

First off, HATS OFF to every one of you who has successfully lost weight without the help of gastric bypass. I tried to be one of you for about 40 years, but decided to take the WLS route and had gastric bypass in 2005 - at 351 lbs (not my highest, which was more like 380).

OK - the differences between starving via gastric bypass and starving via Kimkins are these:

1. Before you have gastric bypass surgery, you are medically checked out within an inch of your life! I had to be referred by my primary doc, then cleared by a sleep doctor (who diagnosed me with sleep apnea & set me up with a CPap machine), pulmonologist, cardiologist, and PSYCHIATRIST. I'm sure there were others but these are the ones I recall off the top of my head. Once cleared by all these folks, most bariatric surgeons have their patients undergo nutrition education (several hours) and start attending support group meetings. Most REQUIRE these things. I would be surprised if your average internet dieter went through this much testing before embarking on a 500 cal/day diet such as Kimkins.

2. During the pre-op education time, pre-ops are given a very strict regime for post-op which includes specific requirements for protein (60g for me initially), carbs (under 50), & some give recommendations re: fat (mine did not but generally low fat is recommended). Then there are vitamins and supplements. Since it's hard to eat 60g protein post-op initially, various easily digestible protein supplements are required (shakes, puddings, powders to mix into stuff). Here is my list of post-op requirements:
B12 sublingual 2x/week
Multivitamin plus iron daily
1000 mg calcium (FROM CALCIUM CITRATE)
Calcium carbonate (1 Tums or Viactive/day)
2000+ mcg Biotin for hair and nails (optional)
I had to take and pass a WRITTEN TEST on this stuff to be sure I really had it down. I have not seen any dietary recommendations on Kimkins beyond a daily multivitamin and optional supplements.

3. After surgery, you are monitored at 1-2 weeks, then every 3 months for the first year, and yearly after that. Bloodwork includes everything under the sun, and post-ops are followed closely for levels of vitamins & minerals. Bone density testing is done if lab work indicates calcium absorption is a problem post-op (it is for many, luckily not for me). Again, I can't imagine the average self-motivated dieter having this close kind of follow-up while they are in starvation mode.

4. Gastric Bypass post-ops are counseled extensively regarding birth control while in the first two years post-op. Most surgeons recommend TWO METHODS of birth control, because for many, drastic weight loss kicks long-dormant hormones into gear, while at the same time all the weight loss inspires folks to be much more sexually active :-) Getting pregnant within the first 2 years post-op can be dangerous and difficult (I will say I know several who've gotten pregnant from 9 months post-op and with hard work they delivered healthy babies & stayed healthy themselves). Not to mention interfering with the post-op "honeymoon" phase when weight loss is most drastic. I don't see anything on Kimkins advising dieters to avoid pregnancy at all costs during the time they are in "starvation" mode.

OK I feel much better now :-) I just get aggravated at Kimkins comparing itself so glibly to gastric bypass surgery.

Now back to catching up with yall!

Thank you, thank you! I posted on 19 of the 20 forums (had 19 windows open and ready to go! LOL). When I realized I had missed the health chat forum, I quickly posted there. Then, someone on the newbie forum posted "Are we being spammed again?" I didn't do a screen shot because I was posting a response. When my response went up, the original was gone! Then, the others started going bye-bye! I do have screen shots of most of what I did, plus I kept a copy of the post. Didn't actually do a screen shot of it. Here's the post:
Quote:
It’s time to stop the nonsense!

I questioned this picture when I first joined because it didn't look anything at all like "Kim Drake" in the WW magazine article, but I didn't question for long. I just decided that Kimmer must have decided to put a younger, sexier-looking model on the front page but I didn't look closely enough at that time to see that she was claiming it was a picture of herself. I didn't look at a lot of the success stories, so didn't notice any discrepancies. I just plunged in. I'm hoping that the fact that I couldn't keep the fat at such low levels has kept me from having serious, long-lasting effects. When I learned from a friend that this diet could cause lasting thyroid issues, I was alarmed as I was already hypothyroid. Had been for years. I tend to be very careful about any medicine that carries a warning that it should be used with caution by those with thyroid disease. There was no warning whatsoever on this diet. In fact, it was encouraged. Kimmer said she was severely hypo and had lost weight. I decided to go for it. Yes, I lost 20 lbs. before stopping, but at what expense? IT'S NOT WORTH YOUR HEALTH!!! STOP NOW AND SEE YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU DAMAGE YOURSELF!!!

The truth is here, here, and here.

This is Lesya from here.

"Buzzybee", what a fantastic find! I was dancin' around all day when I saw the infamous "girl in the red dress". I wonder if she knows she's been elevated to celebrity status in America? "Honeybee", thanks for working tirelessly to keep us all organized and focused - without you we would be stumbling all over each other. Welcome back, LCF boards! I said it was me.. this is ME in the red dress.. but, I was lonely after losing all that weight, and I decided to find a husband.. so, I posted my picture on this Russian site. Tippy, that other dating service didn't go well (and whoops.. I sent them the wrong picture - the before picture of me on the bus, instead of the after! silly me!). and this Russian site seemed to get a lot of hits.. so why not? so, I sent them my after picture.. and they sent it back!!! saying I couldn't be over 50!!

so, Tippy... how could I ever explain that my Retin A skin regime is what makes me look 26? I mean... these are Russians! They probably don't have Retin A over in Russia.. so, I just said 26, since they all said that this was the age I looked! I figured... what choice did I have?

so.. look at this! These people just turn everything I do around. I bet they are going to twist this, too!! It is so hard to keep my private life private!!!

Tippy: I understand. These people are terrible. such Hate. Well.. don't worry.. anyone that mentions it... ZAP.. they're gone!

and.. .Kimmer.. about that raise....

We definitely need a summary page. I have read every single morsel since #1 started but tonight I see 4589984756987967 pages to sift through and I am getting weary lol. Kudos to the Russian Bride division!

Can anyone give me a synopsis of the response from the KK camp, if any?

And a Big ROLL TIDE ROLL to both of you
McLurkyPants-I'll be in TTown next weekend--only time to camp at Deerlick when Bama is on the road-can't get in when it's a home game.....nice to see close neighbors here

I hear ya! We have to plan our entire lives around the football home & away games here! I had my wedding reception this time last year, and we had to plan that around the football schedule, otherwise no way for our guests to get a hotel room between here & Bham!

Enjoy Deerlick - hope you get great weather! It's gorgeous out there!

Oh, and ROLL TIDE! Even tho they TRIED to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the 2nd half! Man, people were SURLY leaving that game tonite. They seemed mad that the team put them thru the agony of almost losing at the end, and they were as mean after this game as when they lose!

We've had lengthy discussions in prior FWK threads about WLS. Kimmer spent time on a WLS board many, many years ago and got some of her info from there.
Much of is out dated now and yet she didn't re-research it to catch up. Many of her followers have used her fuzzy logic and questionable research to argue with us!

Yep, she's a loon and a dangerous bird at that!
