The Wiki entry already seems to have had someone trying to get it shut down already. Wish I could work that fast

Talk:Kimkins controversy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is not an attack page. It is a page about a scam that has recently been rooted out involving an online commercial diet site called kimkins.com. The story is receiving national media attention and is soon to be the subject of a class action lawsuit.

Re:I have a question 2 Hours, 26 Minutes ago
Christ..., how do you think us 'newbies' feel?

I signed up here less then 2 weeks ago and since the day I joined I've seen the place go to hell in a handbasket. Literally!

Like a couple of you others, I've been really damned supportive of this group. I'm sorry, but after absolutely no explanation as to what is going on, I can't help but be very skeptical, even if I don't want to be.

ok, everyone.....how many times can you say "I want to know who the new owner is", "this isn't what I paid for" "its not fair" etc etc. After the first person posts the question....maybe you can just type "Bump" and bring it to the top again...
We will be told, and prob not in the form of a forum post of this type. So just hang in there...everyone is curious, but we will just have to wait till they are ready to give out that information.

I think it's better that more people pipe up and tell the admins what they have a right to know. The more people that stand up and start saying something, the more obvious everyone's concerns will be. I've seen this place single out the little guy before while everyone else stands around twiddling their thumbs and ignoring it. I, personally, am relieved to see many people speak up. I hope more do. Maybe then it won't just be one person asking for answers, thus leading them to being banned.

I'm as curious as everyone else, but I'll do like you said; wait patiently and see what happens. I'm sure the answer will be provided. I wouldn't recommend trying to shush other members though, because...this place is tense right now.

Actually I can say it as many times as it takes to actually get an answer from someone in charge. One would think that a business would be prepared to have answers for customers, clients and investors when such a major change is announced. Not everyone will merely sit down and shut up.

Something to keep in consideration....is that with everything going on lately, the changing of ownership proceedings are being quietly done for the time being. Further information will be released once things are finalized, and in the time being the plan is to move forward and progress with the site in a positive way. Kimmer will still be a part of things and available for your questions via email, just no longer the direct owner/ person who runs the business aspects of the site. I completely understand all of you wanting to know more, but at this point in time it would not be prudent to release the full information to prevent harmful interuptions.

I realize that the Admins/Kimmer want things to settle down while these issues are resolved/finalized, but then...why send us that e-mail so early in the game? All that did was make people even more confused than they already were. And I agree again with Tracy, I'm sure almost everyone has seen what's going on out there now. To send us an e-mail like that just made things worse. Now we need to wait for further details? This wasn't a good idea and a LOT of people are not gonna be happy after reading that e-mail and being told to wait for answers...

...eaaasssy fellow members, don't go TOO crazy.

I thought there were multiple owners of this site anyway. That's what Kimmer said...if she and the others sell it, what is the purpose of her not being here? I don't want to send an e-mail that may or may not be answered. Part of why I paid to join here is so I could get personal encouragement from the person who invented this diet.

She is not leaving, she will still be a part of things. To be honest, most of you must realize how everything she says is taken elsewhere, twisted, scrutinized etc....and all that negative focus going on right now is distracting from the real goal of helping people to achieve their weight loss goals...something that has been a major concern of hers. The new changes underway are an effort to get things back on track and focused where they should be. You still can contact Kimmer, ask her questions, she still will have input going into the site...but this way no one will be lurking over shoulders like they do on the open threads, and someone else can manage the business aspects of the site so that her focus, and that of the staff, can return more to helping everyone.

Re:I have a question 1 Hour, 51 Minutes ago
Like the rest of you I would like answers too! BUT usually when a business is sold everything goes with it. I am sure there are plenty of notes and "secrets" as to how this diet is done so they will be able to answer our questions or concerns. There are still many here who are maintaining and probably have all of the knowledge we need to survive and keep moving forward with or without Kimmer. I for one have started asking MY doctor all of the questions that have run through my mind through this whole thing. I have everything from aches, and pains, to bowl problems and heart problems and he STILL gives the go ahead on this diet. These are all problems that may have stemmed from me being FAT! or they may not be! I have had all of these problems BEFORE joining Kimkins. He is impressed with my success so far and wants me to keep losing the weight that is ruining my health. I have been suffering from atrial fibrillation for 3 years and I feel comfortable with his opinion and his praise to continue this diet. So I am going to remain here. I have even considered buying HIM a paid membership. Just so he can see EXACTLY how this is working and EXACTLY what I should be wary of or not wary of. I don't trust many doctors. It took me 30 years to find a doctor that I completely trusted and felt comfortable with. He moved 50 miles away to another clinic and I didn't even think twice. My family and I followed him.

I am upset that there wasn't a little more warning to her walking away but maybe being under new owner ship will make the harassment that has been plaguing the boards for the past number of weeks STOP. The media coverage to back off and actually see what this is all about. If I knew a doctor that would be willing to jump in and give advice on what to do and what not to do I would sure jump at the chance to drag them in here. Don't jump ship yet. Being FAT is just as damaging if not worse than losing the weight this fast. Its like having gastric bypass with out the actual surgery. I can tell you I have been scared for the past few weeks and have actually gone into maintenance mode watching the boards carefully but I think I may be ready to jump back in. I have been to my doctor this week and asked the questions and told him the "horror" stories and he was not at all worried.

My word of advice to the new owners: and this is just a suggestion not sure how anyone else will feel about it but:
We have had so many of us come together here WITH the praise of our doctors that maybe it would be a benefit for this site to have some doctors or nutritionists willing to be advisor's to the people on this site who desperately need this life change. It can be done and if things need to be tweaked so that we don't fall victim to these "illnesses" that have been supposedly caused by this diet then thats what should be done. I for one always call my doctor with the concerns I have but would rather be able to just jump online and get my answers here.

But we signed up for Kimmer to lead us - it was what was promised us. If she sold the business, I sure hope the new owners made sure she stays on in her former role - it was what we all signed up for. It should have been part of the contract to sell the business.

It sure is aggravating to think back and realize that it sure wasn't Kimmer answering the Ask Kimmer thread today, remember the refusing to answer who was actually writing the answers.....

And Fawn, sweet as you are, you sure go off topic sometimes. Remember, each thread is separate! You must have a special spot here. Twice it appears you get to have the last post before a thread has been locked. Once it even seemed that the locked thread opened up "special' just for your comment, then the thread locked right back up!

SL, I don't envy the position you are in, but I have to tell you, I find it rather patronizing and perhaps even insulting when questions get ignored (or rather erased) to "protect" kimkins members -- to keep them "focused" on their weightloss. With all due respect, yes I am fat (as you keep reminding me), but I am not stupid.

Srry, i just now got here, but here is what she said...it is posted on Ducky's site too..

I don't know how long this post will be up (I suspect not for long), but I wanted to take this opportunity to set the record straight regarding Kimmer's comments about my report.

First of all, all content on About.com's health sites goes through review.

Secondly, prior to about mid-July, I had not paid the slightest bit of attention to the "Kimkins Controversy", but I started getting emails about whether it was a good plan, so I decided I should find out for myself. I had no investment in it one way or the other. I have given my opinion of the pros and cons of many low carb plans on my Web site. I investigated and gave an honest reporting of the diet, and my opinion about it.

After that, I had long emails with the Kimkins Public Relations Director at that time (Christin) about what were perceived to be inaccuracies in my initial report. They were issues such as whether or not Kimkins is a low fiber diet. Christin said it is not a low fiber diet because it allows foods which have fiber. I countered that since the total carb level (including fiber) is no more than 20 grams, and usually less, the fiber level must be low. That is an example of the type of discussion we had.

I was also given an invitation to visit the Kimkins site, so I was able to look for myself (which is why I am able to post this). During the conversation with Christin and my review of the site, I was only able to find two things that were inaccurate my the initial report. The first is that on some of the Kimkins plans small amounts of dairy products (yogurt and cheese) are allowed. The second is that I stated that a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement is recommended, and on the site I could only find evidence that a multivitamin is recommended. (Somewhat ironic because the Kimkins plan is even lower in minerals than in vitamins.) Since Christin assured me that somewhere on the site Kimmer did recommend a supplement that included minerals, I let that stand without comment in my update, which I wrote about 6 weeks after the initial review.

Since then I have had one email exchange with Kimmer, wherein I once again issued an invitation to correct any inaccuracies in my report. I also extend that invitation to Kimkins members reading this. However, I must say that as time goes on, I have only had further confirmation of my initial review, including a physician on the Kimkins TV news report who described it as a starvation diet.

After my first review, Kimmer asked her members to send me "proof that the diet works" (she said I wanted the emails, which was inaccurate). I did receive over 100 emails from people saying that they had lost weight, but this, of course, is not surprising. When people stop eating (or severely cut calories), they will lose weight, no doubt about it. That is not the point. During my emails with Christin, I told her of my genuine concern for her health. She assured me that she was fine - however, two months later that statement is in serious question, by her own admission. I extend my concern to all of you on the Kimkins program, especially the more severe forms. I ask you whether rapid weight loss is worth endangering your health. Is it worth muscle loss, especially heart muscle? Is it worth bone loss? You may think your health is fine, but so did Christin. How would you know? I urge you to at least take the details of what you are eating to your doctor.

I know the lure of quick weight loss is great, but your health is worth asking a lot of questions.

My very best wishes to all who read this -

Well, right now all we have to do is keep scrolling down then clicking to the next page. I may be behind a few pages sometimes, but I don't have to waste any time searching from thread to thread.

As it is, my Playground time is suffering already.

Tom- any suggestions on how you want us to handle the fraudulent success story pictures list? I attempted to keep it from being confusing by updating the list but I ran into issues with 1)not being to update the post after 60 minutes, thus having to make a new post
2)The post limitation of 20 pictures so I had to have a second list.
We just want some way that we all can be searching but not spinning our wheels doing the same thing.
Hold on. Let me go install Blog software here and see how that works out.

Kimkins Controversy on Wikipedia

Actually it was Wikipedia admins who tagged the page as an "attack" page. I am clueless about Wikipedia and jumped in over my head. I read up on how to challenge the removal (thus the "challenge to speedy deletion" tag that's now on there) and following feedback I received, I fleshed out the article some more. Which is pretty funny since I have just been basically a gawker to this whole thing and have no deeper interest in it than that! I just thought a Wiki page would be a good publicity resource, and frankly, it can also be a clearinghouse for development of new info, links, etc.

If there's anybody out there who has some Wikipedia expertise, please take the ball and run with it!

You can create a blog here: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/blog.php

You can have more control, subject to the TOS, of your own blog than a forum thread.

Sorry but at this point, kk members....you should be SUPER OFFENDED!! Kimmer and the admins are treating you like you are IDIOTS!! They are feeding you unbelievably blatant lies that...come on now....you damn well know are false. They want sheep. They are treating you like children (ie "where do babies come from," "the stork"). They are laughing at you!

btw I vote for a thread with just the facts (ma'am). No commentary. Maybe even with just one or a few designated "authors."

Kimkins Controversy on Wikipedia

A couple of moths ago Martin from Slamboard has posted a huge entry in Wikipedia about HD/Kimmer and Kimmer was successful in getting it removed.
Good Luck!

Have some pity. Jeez!

Somewhere around page 79 in thread 5, my butt went numb. I toughed it out. I can't feel my legs but hey, I'm still reading.
I've searched so many Russian bride sites that currently I can only see out of one eye and that's only if I squint really hard and lean into the monitor. Not a big deal, really.
Try not to worry about me. Just keep posting, okay? Eventually I'll get to the end of thread 5 and join you all again. Of course you'll all be about 3414 pages ahead of me but I'm not complaining. Truly. I wouldn't want any of you (oh crap, the little finger on my left hand just cramped up into a ball.
