I am giving my honest opinion on this subject. I think we are all different. I think everyone should discuss a particular diet with their Doctor and should be monitored along the way. Just a note of fact: I have one Doctor who said "Get off that Atkins diet immediatly! All that fat is dangerous!". I told him I was alternating with Kimkins and he said "Just do the Kimkins diet until the weight is gone and go towards a SouthBeach approach for maintenance".

Please take only a physician's advice rather than listen to gossip. We urge you to ask your physician if Kimkins is right for you. We also remind you that Kimkins is meant to produce fast weight loss and is meant to be a short term diet. Again, speak with your Physician.

I added the bold because that is the first time I heard Kimkins is meant to be a short term diet. A way to confuse people over there.
Sorry but a Kimkins REP is not the person to ask whether or not this is dangerous and should you be worried! And also I think it can be agreed that even short term it isn't safe, so still bad advice despite the suggestion to get your doctors advice.

btw don't know why I'm so talkative suddenly!

I left off doing low carb about a year ago because of burn out, I was not doing it right. Although I was not a Kimmer follower, I had fed into the idea of cutting fats, eating lean protein only and trying to keep my carbs low. It back fired on me and made me anxious and I honestly felt that I was becoming obsessed and mentally unbalanced about it and had to back away from all boards. "Atkins" had become a dirty word to me, not because he was ever wrong, but because I chose to DO IT WRONG I did however realize that by leaving "Atkins", it was by no means an excuse to pull out the twinkies and potato chips. I have banged around with WW and other diets, (by the way, it is possible to do WW low carb using the point system) but I am always aware of keeping my carb counts below 100, which by most is still considered "low carb". I have mostly maintained, then saw a slow 10 lb creep which upset me. I came back to LCF in July to see all the hoopla over Miss Kimkins and got my dander flying due to the fact that her type of "diet" is the reason I started to hate low carb in the first place. I actually toyed with the idea of "doing Kimkins" and joining after I saw the article in WW......but there was a tiny voice reminding me in the back of my head how mentally imbalanced I had gotten by getting off the track of healthy low carb the year before.

Thankfully after reading the "fascination" thread and being helped behind the scenes by a really sweet and caring member (name withheld, but you know who you are!) I began to realize where I had gone wrong with low carb. It was with the thinking that it had to be lean low carb, and that protein amounts did not count. I was also wrong in thinking that I could not eat over 20 grams of carbs and lose. I have done more reading on healthy low carb and have found answers that I never found even after low carbing since 2003! It was simply because I never took the time to read and do it right, I was looking for a quick fix.

Many wonder what SNATT is caused by. I found the answer when reading an article from Barry Groves. I am not touting his diet, I feel we all have a decision to make for ourselves when it comes to deciding what path to go down.....Atkins, South Beach, LFL, etc, but this made so much sense to me, I will post this and hope that it helps someone that is struggling like I did. It helped me get over the fear of fat and realize that I needed to eat only the protein allotment my body needs.

This is from an article from Barry Groves:

"Excess intake of nitrogen leads in a short space of time to hyperammonaemia, which is a build up of ammonia in the bloodstream. This is toxic to the brain. Many human cultures survive on a purely animal product diet, but only if it is high in fat.[xii] [xiii] A lean meat diet, on the other hand cannot be tolerated; it leads to nausea in as little as three days, symptoms of starvation and ketosis in a week to ten days, severe debilitation in twelve days and possibly death in just a few weeks. A high-fat diet, however, is completely healthy for a lifetime."

So my friends, I finally have my answer as to why low fat, lean protein does not work for the human body. Read up on hyperammonaemia and you will run, not walk back to higher fat and the right amount of protein. By the way, this has also answered the question to my problem of getting up three times a night to go to the bathroom.....too much lean protein was causing me problems. Since lowering my protein down to 75 grams a day and adding back EFA's and coconut oil, I have one trip to the bathroom at night.......a great improvement over the three trips I was making.

Have I helped anyone.... I will not probably know, but after following this thread for two months, I had to get some things off my chest.

Juniper
I'm sorry you went through all that but thank you. I'm going to look into all that. I really appreciate it!!

You know I was just thinking...as much as I did not want my name associated with her latest newsletter, considering she printed an article I wrote, yet did NOT cite me as the author, isn't that just plain and simple plagiarism?

I think it's copyright infringement. She didn't cite anyone as author, right? Her saying that she owns everything you wrote when you were there is crap. You wrote it...it's your work, and your copyright.

Yes - it is. Personally, I would just let it go after the cease and desist letters and be glad to be out of there. I am glad you are back.

Kim I hate to beat a dead horse but I hope with all my heart that ya'll are filling out the cease and desist letters

Dottie thanks for the reply. Hmmm, so does anyone know if she was "thin" when she started or did she come her for help like we all did and then in that 11 mos lose all the weight?

ETA: hehe I just saw your reply kim. Hey idea: how about you contact regandy and let her know she should use that money she's gonna refund to Heidi as the money you all use to file your cease and desist Just a thought but it would be poetic justice.

Well, going by the responses of her son's ex, I'd say no. Didn't she say heidi was always heavy? I think her own ex did too?

I don't think she ever lost all of it. Didn't someone say that her license a few years back said 168? However when I lived in CA my license said I was 130. I was really like 145. Only 130 for a few seconds.

Mine are different sizes as well but a B works for me (I am still in the same size despite gaining back a few) but anyway I usually have to go with the cup size for the smaller or otherwise my bras don't fit right. The larger one seemed to lose more I guess because it had more to lose?

Hate to say it but, at least in my experience, the unevenness does not go away. I haven't noticed it being anymore of a difference in the two either being at 298 or 159, it was still noticeable and a thorn in my side. As for saggy...eh Yup you can expect that but then again that's been my experience. I just truly believe unless you get corrective surgery that issue isn't going to improve (I am sure there are exceptions to that rule out there somewhere). Sorry if I took a little bit of the hope away, I pretty much have accepted from the get go that I'd have to have surgery (which I really needed anyway and that was before even getting all that heavy).

Anyway, hope that helps.
yes thank you that is very helpful

I also go with the cup size for the smaller one. The bigger one gets really squished, but it makes them look OK under clothes cause it is "restrained". If I try a cup size for the bigger one, the smaller one just flops around and swims in it. I would be ok with it if losing the weight brings them down from DD/DDD(e) to medium C/high C. Actually, B would be cool too but they have been DD since 15 or 16 so I think that would be a pipe dream.

I think Missi meant, when she started posting here did she claim she was thin and had lost the weight, or was she here seeking weight loss support?

ETA: yeah, what Missi said.

Kim: You didn't have a copyright on that piece, did you? It is plagiarism.. Did she PAY you for writing that article? If NOT, then it's YOURS and she stole it. I believe when people are employed or paid for doing something for someone else..(like writing an article), it can be used by the employer (with the true author acknowledged). Otherwise, it is plagiarism for sure..and against the law.

Same here! I'm a great coach (funny comment later) but sticking to it myself is harder then telling others how to

Comment: Winslow was a member on escribe and here back at the start of this site and she lost a tremendous amount of weight with her "secret recipe" - 12 cans of tuna mixed w/32oz mayo! That was (I believe) her main source of fat and protein for the week. She knew I struggled with my weight and she told me once that it came so easy to her that she didn't have to do any research at all, it just "fell off"... but that people who really struggle to find what makes it work are the ones who have done the legwork.

She recently came back and said she had regained some of the weight and she and her daughter were going to try Kimkins... I hope they changed their minds.
