LOLIt appears that Dr. Pescatore recommends Macadamia Oil. I am not sure on his stance on Canola oil. I did email him last night...3am this morning....requesting him to verify whether he had endorsed/approved the Kimkins plan that was published in the WW article. I don't have the article but others have stated that his comments in there appear to be approving of the kimkins plan. I wanted him to state whether he did approve of the plan in WW or if his quotes were used out of context and to be aware of how it appears. I also stated in my email to him that he should review the current information regarding Kimkins and then provided him links. IF I get a response or hear more I will post an update. ![]() ETA-I saw that Julie had already stated the mac oil....I'm slow to catch up this morning.

Also again I have to quickly agree that Melt is Heidi. First of all we are all on this journey together right? How many other people here post about their sex life? I haven't seen anyone but Heidi, and I can't remember that post but it's in the first fascination thread but she I guess was saying her only exercise was the payment for the #2 or some such nonsense. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm single, and I'm no prude, but really? Those posts are waaaaaayyyy too similar. Ok gotta shower and get to work, I'll finish catching up there. Thank god for slow days ![]()

WOE: Low(er) carb

I know, I know, I said I was not coming back today, but I just want to make one statement before I get on with my real life.
I left off doing low carb about a year ago because of burn out, I was not doing it right. Although I was not a Kimmer follower, I had fed into the idea of cutting fats, eating lean protein only and trying to keep my carbs low. It back fired on me and made me anxious and I honestly felt that I was becoming obsessed and mentally unbalanced about it and had to back away from all boards. "Atkins" had become a dirty word to me, not because he was ever wrong, but because I chose to DO IT WRONG I did however realize that by leaving "Atkins", it was by no means an excuse to pull out the twinkies and potato chips. I have banged around with WW and other diets, (by the way, it is possible to do WW low carb using the point system) but I am always aware of keeping my carb counts below 100, which by most is still considered "low carb". I have mostly maintained, then saw a slow 10 lb creep which upset me. I came back to LCF in July to see all the hoopla over Miss Kimkins and got my dander flying due to the fact that her type of "diet" is the reason I started to hate low carb in the first place. I actually toyed with the idea of "doing Kimkins" and joining after I saw the article in WW......but there was a tiny voice reminding me in the back of my head how mentally imbalanced I had gotten by getting off the track of healthy low carb the year before. Thankfully after reading the "fascination" thread and being helped behind the scenes by a really sweet and caring member (name withheld, but you know who you are! ) I began to realize where I had gone wrong with low carb. It was with the thinking that it had to be lean low carb, and that protein amounts did not count. I was also wrong in thinking that I could not eat over 20 grams of carbs and lose. I have done more reading on healthy low carb and have found answers that I never found even after low carbing since 2003! It was simply because I never took the time to read and do it right, I was looking for a quick fix. Many wonder what SNATT is caused by. I found the answer when reading an article from Barry Groves. I am not touting his diet, I feel we all have a decision to make for ourselves when it comes to deciding what path to go down.....Atkins, South Beach, LFL, etc, but this made so much sense to me, I will post this and hope that it helps someone that is struggling like I did. It helped me get over the fear of fat and realize that I needed to eat only the protein allotment my body needs. This is from an article from Barry Groves: "Excess intake of nitrogen leads in a short space of time to hyperammonaemia, which is a build up of ammonia in the bloodstream. This is toxic to the brain. Many human cultures survive on a purely animal product diet, but only if it is high in fat.[xii] [xiii] A lean meat diet, on the other hand cannot be tolerated; it leads to nausea in as little as three days, symptoms of starvation and ketosis in a week to ten days, severe debilitation in twelve days and possibly death in just a few weeks. A high-fat diet, however, is completely healthy for a lifetime." So my friends, I finally have my answer as to why low fat, lean protein does not work for the human body. Read up on hyperammonaemia and you will run, not walk back to higher fat and the right amount of protein. By the way, this has also answered the question to my problem of getting up three times a night to go to the bathroom.....too much lean protein was causing me problems. Since lowering my protein down to 75 grams a day and adding back EFA's and coconut oil, I have one trip to the bathroom at night.......a great improvement over the three trips I was making. Have I helped anyone.... I will not probably know, but after following this thread for two months, I had to get some things off my chest.Juniper |

Yes, you did help. I grew up in a ranch area, I also read this in Neanderthin. It is called "rabbit sickness" where I live. Living on low fat meats can be deadly. Even the native americans used fat liberally (pemacin) (sp??). I gotta find my Neanderthin book for the quote there on it. They describe it beautifully. I too fell for the Kimmer sham because I was so desperate for a quick fix. I was so wrong, wrong, wrong.............. I KNOW Atkins works, not as quick, but at least I won't risk my health. |

Juniper,
Thanks for posting this. This makes me seriously wonder if SNATT and the toximity of the brain (from Dr. Groves quote) may be the cause of anerexia since a lot of anerexia conditions start with dieting. (the wrong way) This gives one food for thought, no pun intended. ![]() Quote:
