Well I was just about in tears today. I have had to concede that I have no choice now but to get my hair cut...short. I mentioned a while back that I had lost quite a bit, but have been noticing lately how unhealthy it's been looking. Today after I washed and blow dried it, I was horrified. Freshly washed hair usually looks shiny and bouncy..today my hair had no shine and looked horrible and then I noticed that it as become brittle and there are whole sections that have broken off. I keep my hair tied back a lot for work and don't wash it every day, so I hadn't noticed before.

I tried to take a picture to post here (someone ealier accused no one of having pictures as proof) but I have such a lousy web cam.
The picture on my avitar was taken right around the time I started Kimkins in April. I had really nice healthy hair then and had been lowcarbing for well over a year. I work in the cosmetics industry so have always done a lot of stuff to keep my hair healthy.

I only did kimkins for 3 months and never went to the very low extremes with it. I was a bit defiant about the low fat, but my calories were still way too low 800-900 and I did do K/E a lot. I really thought I was getting enough fat at 50-60 grams per day...apparently not.

God, I wish you all and any one lurking here still doing kimkins could see my hair up close. It looks so bad that I for sure can't leave it out and I can't even put it in a pony tail because it's so thin and frizzy it looks ridiculous. I have to put it into a bun or a a clip.

I have a hair appt next week, but I AM going to try and get a good picture before then.

what did your doctor say? have you had your hormone levels checked?

I don't know of this happening with anyone I know that has been on Atkins.. it might happen, but I still think you should get it checked, just to make sure nothing else is going on.

You are probably fine, but it never hurts to get it checked out anyway.

As I said earlier about 3 weeks ago my normal hair-loss from washing tripled. I was on Atkins 1 month, Kimkins 4 months and then maintained for 6 weeks. I hadn't taken my EPA Oils (Omega3's) during Kimkins because I didn't want the added fat. Shocked of my constant hair loss I restarted my Omega3's 6 biggen's before bed and within 4 -5 days my tripled hair-loss went back to normal. Whew!!!

I'm so sorry you're going through this too. I hope the above may help.

Thanks Jenna - That's the sad irony. I was taking EFA's. I guess it just wasn't enough to counteract. I was religious about it too. I develop skin and hair products and specialize in anti-aging products. So I knew the importance of essential fatty acids especially when it comes to skin health. The sad thing is I was just starting to notice much less hair loss when I shampooed and was getting excited about that.

I'm in full blown menopause so I am sure that has made me more vulnerable to this ..but it still SUCKS big time. I LIKED my hair ...poor me Oh well ...live and learn. I guess if that's the only health issue, I'm very lucky.

Since when is it OK to mock ANYONE here about their size? You start making comments about her size, you're also mocking half the people here on this board. There are people here that are that weight and more. I don't see the difference between someone saying Sally Struthers could play Heidi or if she could play me. There may be people who WISH they were Sally's size. Or Heidi's size, for that matter. It's a line that shouldn't be crossed here.

WOW... I had a ton of reading to do to catch up on everything that is going on. I don't get to the boards too often anymore - we are slammed at the office everyday now and I just don't have the down time - and I've obviously missed alot.

But I have definitely enjoyed catching up on all this. It is wonderful to know that everything I suspected about Kimmer is true. And, of course, I knew going in that everything I suspected about kimkins diet was true. I'm glad to see so many people that I and others tried to warn against kimkins have seen the truth and are moving on to something healthy. I just hope that no long term or permanent damage was done to your health. And I empathize with all of you that put your faith in someone who has turned out to be such a huge (no pun intended) fraud. I hope she goes down hard for this but I fear with all the advance warning she is getting, she may just disappear.

For those who still defend both the person and the diet, all I can say is that I hope you jump out of the way before that big light (train) runs you over. I can understand that some have to learn the hard way... I just would not want to sacrifice my health learning it.

As I've always said - if you want FAST weight loss - there is nothing faster than liposuction - even faster than kimkins But if you want HEALTHY FAT loss, then a healthy diet with regular exercise is the ONLY way.

Yours in Good Health,

KDC

I think she was pretty clear/cut & dry -

"if said fat person pretends to weigh 118 pounds, scams 1000's of people out of their money by claiming to be 118, belittles anyone who struggles with their weight and criticizes others for not being "strong enough" to be as fabulously successful as her, makes fun of those that lose slowly, steadily and healthfully, then yup...they are fair game in my book

sorry - she was not "mocking" anyone

she was not making fun of ANY of the overweight ladies on this board

she was not making fun of ANY of us who have worked for years..even decades... to lose the excess weight which has plagued us for most of our lives

Thank you.

No, I haven't taken part in any of the poking fun of, but I have no isssues with those that have.

That being said....I'm fat. I probably weigh about the same as Heidi, have the same body type as Heidi. I have lost over 100 pounds more than once. I had WLS many years ago, too and still weigh 300 pounds again. But, I understand the urge to take jabs at Heidi in regards to her size due to the things you quoted me saying above. People often have the need to lash out at someone that's hurt/betrayed them...especially when that person isn't being "brought to justice" or stopped from continuing the hurtful behavior. It's kind of the same mindset as sitting around with your girlfriends making fun of the guy that you just broke up with, who treated you like crap. I'm the same size as her, but I don't take offense or take it personally because I understand the place where the jabs come from.

I'm sorry I quoted you. I was actually talking about people who were comparing Heidi to Kathy Bates, Delta Burke, Sally Struthers, etc. No, you didn't take jabs. But other people have. And how people can make fun of ANYONES weight here - regardless of what they've done - is beyond me. What you say about people feeling the need to lash out makes sense, but, as I said, there ARE people here who weigh as much and more than Heidi. How do those people feel when they see people on a weight loss support board mocking her weight? Yes, when people keep trying to outdo each other to come up with fat actresses to portray her, they ARE mocking her weight.

Lou

Yes I know, one of the reasons why I don't like the kimkins diet because it is all all about rapid weight loss and why some of us are saying that there is more of an urgency with these types of symptoms on kimkins then with a diet that provides adequate calories and slower weight loss. This applies to Atkins too for some people through their fear of fat or heavy ketosis, eat too little.

On a diet that after the first few weeks settles down to 1-2 pounds a week these types of symptoms should for most people go away but on a diet like kimkins they just seem to get worse.

Another thought, are you on birth control?

I had problems too, someone I spoke to once thought that it had something to do with the way it was being metabolised in the liver (I also wonder if its also the release from our fat cells of hormones from the pill we had been taking too when gaining weight). To fix it I stopped taking the pill and continued on with Atkins. Anyway at the time (2002) Atkins was very popular over here so there were heaps of girls having similar problems, I did a poll and sure enough the majority were on birth control.

I don't visit American forums a great deal (beside this thread!) so have no idea if anyone else has noticed this too.

Just some food for thought
