Folks here have a great concept of cycling kimkins/atkins you can stay on track for 6 days great, how about then switching to atkins for a week, then go back to kimkins? Or I'm still reading Lyle's book - (MissM) explains the concept in another thread. But maybe a free meal a week (this is not a carbfest!, but a healthy meal with choices that you don't usually eat) keep it to the CAD one hour, it would give you something to look forward to each week. You can lose the weight, you just need to find what works for you.On the free meal concept, Lyle recommends using this as a DINNER/night time meal, since it is easier to get back on track in the am, vs. starting at lunch and it turning into dinner too Good luck and if you have any questions - please ask, there are lots of folks here willing to share with you!

Thanks for starting the new thread Miss M. I sure am a Shaker, Tweaker. My plan changes from week to week, but right now is mostly what I'm calling Wendikins, a combination of Atkins, Kimkins and PSMF with the calorie changes of the Wendi Plan. Just attempting to keep my body guessing by varing the calories from high, moderate and very low. Today I am still up .2 from my low of the week the day before eating my high fat, higher calorie day of Atkin, Mondays are my official weigh in day of the week, so will see then how much I have lost overall for the week. Let's all keep on shaking and find out what works for each of us.

I really enjoyed following this and the proceeding thread. I read the 1st thread in shock shaking my head! I'd lost over 80 lbs easily years ago with 1 free meal a week. Back before I started reading lc boards and reading how strict I should be. I gave up my same day every week free meal. I had binges here and there instead over the last 5 years after say 30-40 days of strict induction and no loss~which slowly but surely put my weight up 30 lbs over 5 years. In june I went back to the free meal once a week and quit saying I couldn't have a little wine every other weekend and voila..............11 lbs since the end of June. I thought it was all psychological until I read your threads!!!! Wow I am glad I found your thread! I'm happy even losing slowly as long as I'm ultimately losing over all.

So great to see so many friends here!
Question: Stilldews, what is PSMF plan? Also, just tossing this out for ideas... I recently hit maintenance levels. I would prefer to weigh in as close to 150 as my body will allow and my lowest was 151. Of course we all fluctuate some and I am now 153 and have been for a week. Should I do a short Kimkins run and push the weight back to implement a set point or should I just let it be? My idea of maintenance is 150 to 155 but at 153 just a little too much sodium could easily push me over my mark. Makes me nervous, lol. What would you guys suggest? |

Hmmmm....my digital scale was funky this morning. First weigh-in (checked 3 more times) and it consistently showed a 2.6 lb. loss. I thought, "Great! Wow! Fantastic" But I feel SO horrible today, slightly swollen, have an achey head, flu-like symptoms (TOM, Day 2 - always like that on my 2nd day).
![]() I walked away and wondered. Five minutes later, I went back to the scale (didn't eat or drink) and this time it showed just .2 lbs. down (which is more likely; I checked it about 6 times!). If it's REALLY 2.6 lbs. down, hopefully that will be reflected in tomorrow's weight. If it's only .2 down, I am hoping that is the first sign of an oncoming Whoosh (that's what sometimes happens...not always, but just enough to give a girl hope!) ![]()

Miss M, I have a set of those digital scales and they are tricky. I prefer my solar scales. Of course they weigh me 1 lb less...

Tippy: PSMF is the acronym for Protein Sparing Modified Fast (from Lyle McDonald's "Rapid Fat Loss" book).
If I may, I'd suggest that you return to either Kimkins or the Atkins Induction plan every time you gain a few lbs. I say that because, both both Dr. and and Curves wt.loss book suggest that maintainers go back to their Weight Loss Plan and stay with it until the extra few lbs. are gone, then immediately return to Maintenance. Supposedly, the cycling intervals will get longer and longer between Maintenance Level style eating and the need to return to the Wt. Loss program. The reasons for doing it, so the Curves' handbook author(s) state, is to reset the metabolism so that it recognizes your goal wt. as your normal weight, instead of trying to get back up to a higher one (which most metabolisms will do). That sounds like a neat Maintenance "Cycling" program to me....and it also seems like a "reverse" refeed idea to me - (e.g., eating at Maintenance level until 2-3 lbs. more show up, then reversing the WOE with Induction or Kimkins or whatever was one's wt. loss program)...but only for Maintainers! It also calls for a daily weigh-in, because part of the "trick" is to catch that metabolism and stop it in its weight gain tracks before it piles on even a few more lbs. Dr. A - who suggested this tip long before the Curves people did - advised that maintainers who find that they have gained a few lbs. should go right back to Induction. So it's really up to you, hon - it seems you can use either Kimkins or Atkins, so you'll find out which one's best for your personal maintenance cycling method. I think the biggest consideration between the two are the fat levels - you may want to either lower yours a bit while doing Atkins Induction with its 20 carb limit , or you may wish to go straight to Kimkins with its low-fat, low-carb WOE. Good luck, babe! You are SUCH a trooper! ![]() |

Tippy: Solar scales, eh? I'd like them, too, if they showed me as 1 lb. less!
When I got my very first digital scale in June, that little brat showed me TEN lbs. higher than my former (fluctuating) regular scales did. After that, I stewed in my own juices for 2 days...can't recall if that helped me lose wt., though. ![]() You know, I still get on that old scale, just to see what it will say, and in the beginning it wouldn't change a thing. But NOW it's always hovering very close to my digital's report. (Now that I think about it, this morning it showed I was down about 2.5 lbs.). Another hmmmm. I think it is behaving itself now because it feared I'd throw it away... Last edited by Divine Miss M : 08-11-2007 at 08:45 AM. |

Divine -
I have trouble with my digital scale too. It weighs me 2.2 lbs higher than it should, the only way I know that is we have a Pelouze (very reliable postal scale) at work that I'm able to check it against at work. So I just subtract 2 lbs everyday from the one here at home. My digital is just a cheap HealthoMeter from Wal-mart and I've been thinking about buying a new one but as long as I know how much higher it's weighing I'm okay for know - although the solar thing got my attention I'll have to check into those. Also, Divine, you answered a question I had yesterday about whey protein and you said that you drank the Body Fortress twice a day everyday and still lost. Was that while you were doing Kimkins. Or I guess I should say is that recently when you lost the 55 lbs? I'm just curious. I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I start trying the protein drinks. Thanks !!!

Miss M, I tend to think you are correct. I will take your advice and get back to my low. The nice thing about it is that the weight comes back off very fast if caught right away. DH is home for the next 3 days but is back to work on Tues so I will start a Kimkins round on that day. Should take no more than 3 days, tops. Thanks for the very good advice. I felt that way too but wanted another opinion. Also, my first scales reflected 13 lbs less than what was true. I didn't know it for 6 months. When I found out I was just crushed. I actually bawled a little, even. But, pulled self together and continued on... Gee, where are those scales now? I should have kept them for bad days, lol!

I have been kind of just wonder threw the days. Due to some family health stuff, we have needed to stay close to home lately and I a going crazy. I have decided I need a planed schedule even if its around food and exercise. So here is my plan .I am going to set up frozen daily carb alotments enough for the week( frozen because its hard to get to the store often rite now). I am going to force my self to eat 4 times a day weather I want to our not. I have days were I think I am sliping into starvation.I am in the 250's If i consume 600 caloriesa day, I'm going to get sick! My meals will be, Mon- Sat breakfast eggs, lunch canned or fried chicken, and try for a fresh salad, dinner will be rost, grilled steak or burgers. I will keep deviled eggs on hand for snacking. On sundays My husband and I are going to do egg fasts. This is usualy the day that we screw up on so were going to do this. He has been faithfully working out everynight after work.
( we have 2 diffrent kinds of weigh machines, a row machine and an eliptical in our basement) I start, than I stop. Now he's going to track me and I have no idea what I am lifting or how long I am going. I will just trust in him. We did it last night and it was kind of fun. He found my comfort ranges first and now he is makeing up a goal chart. It will be neat to see what I did after I do it for a month. We are going to take measurement and keep that a secret for a month. I awoke this morning expecting to be sore and the scale up but I feal ok, and I am offically back down to 255. (I had refused to change my stats).$ I guess this is my way of shakeing things up to shake them down.

I'm down 5 pounds since Monday! I'm sure a lot of that is water since I was eating a lot of carbs last week. But I'll take it. Today is my refeed and I'm stocked up with my refined carbs. I have it planned out so I don't go crazy.

WOE: Low Carb - My Way

Hello everyone ~
Well, I've been posting about this subject on the other board but since this has become the official board where we are talking about "shaking it up" I'll update here. I bought my Whey protein yesterday (Chocolate Designer Whey at GNC) with the intention of drinking one shake at breakfast and one shake at lunch from now on and continuing with my one hour low carb dinner (to fill everyone in who doesn't know me - I normally IF for B & L and then do an hour long low carb dinner. I lose well on it but it seems that it's been slower than I previously lost in 04 so I'm changing it up a bit. In 04 I was drinking EAS shakes and not IFing for B&L). Oh and I also brough one of those handheld mixers for the protein mix - I thought it would help the taste out a bit rather than using a fork. ![]() So this morning since I'm so used to IFing I never ate any breakfast just drank my water. But then just about 10 minutes ago I was unpacking all the shopping bags from yesterday and came across my little mixer and thought - I wonder if I should give the protein mix a go for lunch? I was a little nervous to be honest because I was scared I wouldn't like it. Silly to be scared I know, but for some reason I want this to be the answer to getting more protein in me. I can only eat so much chicken, ya know?? So, I mixed one scoop of the Chocolate Designer Whey with 8 oz. of plain water. It was mixed up and ready to drink BUT FIRST I thought I'll go weigh and see what the scale says (I hadn't weighed earlier this morning because I had a free meal yesterday while I was out shopping with the little ones and to be honest I didn't want to know what it said). Same weight as yesterday morning - AWESOME - especially since I had some cookies! K, so back I went to the kitchen and I was pleasantly surpirsed - I LIKED the protein drink! So, if it helps the weight loss, or heck as long as it doesn't stall it, I do believe I will continue using them. So that's my story for today. How is everyone doing? Any special plans for the weekend? Hubby is taking me out on a date tonight so I thought that was sweet. |

Hi, Nicole: Oh, gosh, no, sweetie - I never had 2 shakes and 1 meal every day, at any time! I just did that once a week, when I wanted to shake it down. In fact, one shake was made with 8 oz. low-carb, fat-reduced milk and the other with 8 oz. water. I usually did that shake trick either on KE or Kimkins.
Homestretch: Hiya! The Rapid Fat Loss book says a refeed can result in a 4-10 lb. gain, and that it can take anywhere from 4 or more days to see the loss start. Then it will keep moving down. Of course, when to do a refeed depends on a number of factors: 1) One must follow his plan (low-fat, limited number of proteins, unlimited number of green veggies, etc.) 2) an individuals' BF percentage upon which 3) either free meals, refeeds are both are called for. I realize people are experimenting with free meals and refeeds without reading TRFL book and, while that is their preogative, the results may not be the same. Just a heads-up! Kbetz: Perhaps if you spread out your meals to 4 per day, you can eat much smaller ones - that way you won't feel like you are forcing yourself to eat. Also, doing it that way is a great method at keeping your insulin levels steady, and that's very important for hormonal balance, too. Btw, I agree, 600 calories per day is too low (though I myself have gone that low and even lower - from experience, I don't recommend it.). I personally think it's better to stay between 1,000-1400 calories throughout the week, mixing up those amts. to keep the metabolism working (not to mention getting in the needed nutritonal amts. of lean proteins, fats, and veggies.) One of the "shake it up" suggestions came from the Wendie Plan (I am sorry, I forgot which of you sweeties shared that info with us on another thread) . This morning, I translated it into calories from the Weight Watcher Points. I figured the total calorie plan throughout the week, and I believe that any body can use it, no matter which low-carb WOE they are following. At any rate, it's worth a try! Bonus: This way of shaking it up certainly allows for TWEAKS! Ok, here is what I figured based on the Wendie Plan, but translated into calories instead of WW points, and it looks like this: (27 WW points = 1400 calories) 51.852 calories per point (rounded off to the closest 1000th) • Low, Day 1 - 22 points (1140 cals) – Starting cals • High, Day 2 - 28 points (1451 cals) – OR 311 cals more than Day 1 • Low, Day 3 - 23 points (1192.5 cals) – OR 258 calories less than Day 2 • Very High, Day 4 - 36-39 points (between 1866.6 cals – 2022.2 cals) – OR 674.1 – 829.7 cals more than Day 3 • Low, Day 5 - 22 points (1140 cals) OR 726 -822.2 cals less than Day 4 • High, Day 6 - 29 points (1503.7 cals) – OR 363 cals more than Day 5 • Mid-Low to High, Day 7 - 27 points (1400 cals) – OR 103 cals less than Day 6 Tippy: I'm glad you were able to decide what you'd like to do...and glad my suggestions helped you! Julie: Whoo-hoo! 5 lbs. down over the week is FANTASTIC! WTG, babe! Last edited by Divine Miss M : 08-11-2007 at 11:06 AM. |

Nicole: See, that wasn't so bad! I'm glad you found a whey protein brand you enjoy!
Let's see...my original plans today were to take in a movie (daughter really wants to see Hairspray), then off for a lunch together, and then have our nails done. (Big treat!) Strike 1 and 2, though, since I feel like the Wreck of the Hesperis (Tom, Day 2). I don't want to completely disappoint daughter, so I am going to make our nail appt...though I'd rather wait. I just feel icky, icky, icky because flow is heavier, cramps are worse, back hurts, headache comes and goes, etc., etc. and I don't want to leave the house when I feel this badly...you think I would be used to it, since this "Tom, Day 2" business has been a problem for a number of years now. But no-o-o....I do have to say the symptoms are easing up a bit these last few months, but I guess there is no way to completely eradicate them. Such is life for those of us in our 40's... |
