dark always mean dehydration?

My ketostix are a deep purple black color. When I drink 8-10 cups of liquids during the day, they are dark purple. However, at night and in the morning, they are very dark. This is my 5th day ( started 6/21 and couldnt get below 126.6..had my TOM and off plan, and here I am again 5th day) and havent budged 126.6 for the 3rd stinkin day. Here I go again..

Anyhow, today Im gonna drink 16 cups of water only.. have 6 eggs and a can of tuna in water. I dont want any extra salt or additives..and hopefully something will budge.

Ive been eating those pretreated rotisserie chickens from walmart. I might eat one chicken over 2 days. They seem so salty, and maybe Im retaining.

Finally, my fingers are more swollen than usual. I swear I must be dehydrated, but Ive been drinking 8 cups of "liquids" a day...nonaspartame. Mostly water and a cup of green tea..

My clothes fit great! I guess I just wonder about those stinkin sticks. I dont check to see if I am in ketosis but use it as a dehydration gauge. I dont even know how accurate that is though.

Forget about the ketosticks. They vary in their "accuracy." If you are losing weight or inches, drinking lots of fluids, and eating approved foods, you are working the plan.

I don't believe ketosticks are supposed to be used for checking dehydration. Spilling ketones is not the same as being dehydrated.

Well, I've been drinking plenty of liquids and peeing my brains out and when I'm doing low carb/cal/fat my sticks STAY purple all the time. That's just me, but it keeps me motivated- 6 lbs down last week!

Yes. I just read that starting any low carb/low cal diet can keep the ketone bodies flowing much and freely thus the purple. I also read that fat metabolism is all about efficiency and that the first few weeks of a virtually no carb diet is not as efficieint in burning fat than the later weeks. Supposedly, a person on a strict fat/protein diet rarely has but a trace of ketones in the urine.

I cannot endorse this person's accuracy, but this is where I read this:

Shannon, you're correct. Eventually, the sticks stop being dark even though you remain in ketosis.

Good to know! I would've been freaked if I stayed the course and the sticks stopped responding- now I know to expect it! THANKS!

Well, glad I'm not the only frustrated one. I don't have much to go, either in terms of weight loss and I drink easily 20+ cups of "liquids" a day..but no caffeine. (No green tea) My ketostix color ranges from trace to moderate usually and I haven't lost any fat for the past 8 days. I've only lost one pound in the past two weeks and that was during the first week. I've lost water weight, but I don't count that as making progress. But, oh well. I hope you stick with it, too. I know I need to keep trying because nothing else works for me.
