Help!
Hello All...
I need help. Bad. I have about 30 pounds to get rid of. They are the same 30pounds I've been struggling with off and on for several years now. I did Atkins a few years back, got where I wanted to be and then slowly gained it all back. I am perpetually on a low to lower carb diet which is probably why that extra 30 pounds isn't 100 pounds. I'm set and determined to finally get rid of this weight. I started on M/E a few days ago and I think I've actually gained a pound. Today is my third day and I'm pretty sure I'm up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong...This is what I've eaten: Wed: B-scrambled eggs, bacon and a couple of sausage patties L-two plain McDonald's patties D-5 or six hot wings and a T-Bone Thurs: B- Two sunny side up eggs, a few pieces of bacon, three sausage links L-2 plain McDonald's hamburger patties D-Eggs, bacon, and a slice of ham Today: B-Eggs, bacon, ham, and sausage links L-A couple of bites of salmon with a little mayo mixed in D- grilled chicken leg quarters w/ SF cajun seasoning Shouldn't I be seeing a loss? I've limited myself to two cups of coffee a day and two packets of cream and two or three Splendas. My carbs have been at 3 or 4 every day. My Ketostix show me in the purple zone, but not the deep purple. Also, could it be my medication? I'm taking Clarinex and Singulair for allergies. Or, could it be birth control? After reading some of the wonderful results so many of you have gotten, I was almost in tears when I saw the scale today. Any wisdom or advice you might impart would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced! |

I would say you are eating way to much fat. I would cut out the bacon or switch to turkey bacon. No sausage and no McDonald's patties. I have lost 15 lbs in 14 days. I eat NO added fat at all. As far as I know many of the things you are eating are not allowed on Kimkins and definitely not on K/E. Go and check the Kimkins sticky to get all the info you need. Even though your ketosticks are showing purple, I would say the problem is your amount of fat. Are you drinking enough also?

Thanks for the info. I did read several threads. I don't know which or how many different threads, but it is where I found the M/E plan. Isn't it an offshoot of Kimkins?
I would like to try the low fat plan, but with my work schedule I don't know that it's feasible. I travel for work and I'm gone about 3 or 4 days a week. I can't bring food with me, so I have to rely on what's available. Unfortunately, I also travel in rural areas, so restaurants are very limited. If there's a way to do it low fat I'd love to try it...i just don't know how. |

I don't do meat and eggs, I do k/e and then kimkins with a little tweek but I have to say from looking at your menu, you have way too much fat.
Wed: I'd say use egg beaters or two whites, one yolk, turkey bacon or turkey sausage. B-scrambled eggs, bacon and a couple of sausage patties L-two plain McDonald's patties I'd say no to the fast food, they cook with way too much fat. D-5 or six hot wings and a T-Bone I'd say what was on the wings, how were they cooked, and a t-bone is quite high in fat period. Thurs: B- Two sunny side up eggs, a few pieces of bacon, three sausage links I'd try beaters again, or hard boiled eggs. L-2 plain McDonald's hamburger patties Dito up there. D-Eggs, bacon, and a slice of ham How were those eggs cooked? Today: B-Eggs, bacon, ham, and sausage links Again, too much fat try canadian bacon. L-A couple of bites of salmon with a little mayo mixed in This is good. D- grilled chicken leg quarters w/ SF cajun seasoning This is good as long as you didn't eat the skin. I understand what you mean about traveling but here is a plan I have used: Buy a cooler, grill some chicken breast with seasoning, make some hard boiled eggs, grill turkey sausage and turkey bacon, bag it all up and put it in a cooler in your car or if you don't have a car, use a flexible cooler you can carry. Then for lunch choose a Salad at McDonalds instead if you have to. Also drink water, etc., black coffee shouldn't hurt ya. But I'd try to figure it out if you can, that menu seems too chalked with fat for any loss. I hope this helps, and good luck. ![]()

I agree with the others that it's just too high in fat and hence calories. There also seems to be some confusion between M/E and K/E. Meat/Egg is what you have posted as your menu. That includes as much fat as you want, preferably higher-fat cuts (like T-bone and wings). That's not the same plan as K/E, which is lean protein only and only as much fat as you need to cook with.
There's nothing wrong with the M/E plan itself, but many folks just aren't going to lose on it because it's too high in calories. I used it myself to break a stall in the past and it worked great. But the fat ended up being too high for me eventually. That was a great rundown of your menus up above by the others. Eggbeaters instead of whole eggs; lean protein for breakfast, like ham and turkey bacon; 4-6 ounces lean protein for lunch and again at dinner. Snacks like hardboiled eggs and small amounts of cooked protein. Beef is really iffy, since it's higher in fat. If you can, stick with the lean proteins like chicken breast and fish (including shrimp). Pork tenderloin is also good. The losses you are reading about on this forum are because folks are doing K/E, not M/E (for the most part). Keep it lean. Also, if you don't use fitday or another calorie/food software program, start doing it to track what you are eating. Fitday is free and easy for most folks to use. Good luck!

Thanks ladies, I appreciate all your wonderful advice. I was doing M/E, not Kimkins or K/E, which is why my fat was so high. After reading back over some other threads, I realize I was doing M/E exactly as I was supposed to, but it seems to me that M/E is more of a stall breaker than anything else.
I think I will try K/E or Kimkins 3 or 4 days a week when I'm home and then do regular Atkins the rest of the time when I'm traveling. With the type of travel I do it's just not feasible or safe to bring food along. |
