Confused.. How many .oz is in a cup of lettuce

I eat 4 .oz of lettuce, not sure if that is a cup or 2 ETC. I know in Liquid that would be 1/2 cup..

Since I weigh a lot of my food, and I want to start KimKins.. I heard you are allowed 3 cups a day..

Does anyone know How many .oz is in a cup of lettuce?

This might give you some idea. That's a regular sized dinner plate that the lettuce is sitting on, by the way.

Linda, I just went to your recipe site - wow!

How much would using a skinless breast cut down on the fat in the Korean Chicken recipe? Do you think most of the fat is in the chicken skin? Because that sounds delish. I have all the ingredients and can make it tonight!

Thank you all for responding. I just check with Calorieking. And it said 1 cup Shredded or chopped was 1.9 .oz.. Which means I have been eating a little over 2 cups.

Here are the counts for one serving of Seoul Chicken made with skin-on thighs:
221 Calories; 16g Fat; 17g Protein; 1g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 1g Net Carb

Here are the counts using boneless chicken breasts with no skin:
153 Calories; 3g Fat; 28g Protein; 1g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 1g Net Carb

If you were to use thighs without skin:
86 Calories; 5g Fat; 8g Protein; 1g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 1g Net Carb

I'm not sure why MasterCook says that a skinless thigh would have less fat than a skinless breast though. Somehow that doesn't make sense, especially since they weigh pretty much the same amount. The amount of protein looks wrong too. I'm going to check the USDA site and see what I can find out.

Nevermind. I figured out why the numbers looked so wrong. I'd entered "chicken thigh, no skin, R-T-C" which gives the counts for the chicken after cooking. Cooking meat renders out fat so the calories are much lower than for raw chicken. I'm still not sure why the calories for raw thigh meat are lower than breast meat though.

105 Calories; 4g Fat; 14g Protein; 1g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 1g Net Carb

Here's what I got from the USDA site:

Chicken, broilers or fryers, thigh, meat only, raw - 100 grams:

119 calories
19.5g protein
4g fat

Chicken, broilers or fryers, breast, meat only, raw - 100 grams:

110 calories
23g protein
1.25g fat

This what drive me crazy about Kimkins and the ideas.. Yes the plan works, but 1 cup, 2 cups hecks 6 cups of lettuce is less than 50 calories.

Yes I agree it is good to know what a portion size is and looks like but - I know I didn't get fat eating 10 cups of lettuce a day...

Don't let your self get crazy over lettuce -that is not what is going to slow you down....

This is said sincerely - I believe in the plan and it works - I don't believe in it when it is taken to extremes....

Good points, Laurie. I agree that none of us are now posting on a weight loss forum because we ate too much lettuce!

For a lot of people, however, it's not the lettuce. It's the stuff they put on it. The difference between 1-2 cups of lettuce and 6-7 cups in terms of the amounts of salad dressing or whatever might make a difference over a long-term period of time to some people.

But I also think all plans do this to some extent, with the aggressive weighing and measuring and whatnot. It's a way to help people take control of their eating in a very conscious way. Even Atkins was saying "2 cups loosely packed" or whatever. It's another strategy to "stay in the moment" and be aware of what we are eating.

But, yeah, lettuce itself is not the culprit.

i agree with pink parsley. it is not about the lettuce. it is about learning portion control which is essential to any plan. Speaking as a compulsive overeater, you can overeat on anything. You can overeat on lettuce. No, overdoing it on lettuce will not make you fat but it is about learning to see what a normal portion/serving of food should be.

Amen Rhonda! I am also a compulsive overeater and I have to retrain my brain to eat the right amount of any food..even lettuce!

I try to do Kimkins except for the salad green limitations. I eat more than 3 cups/day. I feel better doing so rather than be tempted to fill up on meat.
