I could eat a horse and still be HUNGRY! WHY?!?

Okay,

The weirdest thing happened to me last week. I was eating my normal Kimkins-oriented foods and I noticed I felt hungry ALLLLL day. And I've never felt that way. Not even out of ketosis and on a regular diet. So I drank LOTS of water to try to calm my stomach down. Sometimes I would eat something, because that ALWAYS works, but this time, I was still hungry!

Well, that was about a week ago and on Monday I stopped low carbing because that's how I do. I'm low cal-ing for awhile now. And I've had PLENTY to eat today. But once again, my stomach feels completely EMPTY! I got bloated after lunch for about 30 minutes, but after a BM (sorry if TMI) I feel empty again... Just had a handful of peanuts and I'm STARVING. What the hey is going on??? Anyone have a clue? It's absolutely freaking me out. (not in a scared way, just totally bizarre!)

Well thanks for your input! You know last week, I would have agreed with that, and it makes sense! I was down to 500-800 cals a day! But this week I've been around 1200 cals and I feel like I'm eating ALLLL the time. But I didn't feel like this yesterday or any other day besides once last week. Today I'm almost at 1500 cals... It's totally creepy.

Thanks again for the suggestion. It really is the strangest feeling. And I've been drinking water like there's no tomorrow. That usually stops the hungry feeling too. But not today. I've already had 80 oz of water today just from trying to stop the hunger. Once again.. WEIRD, I say.

I just burped and I'm even hungrier now

Kamicryze I went through your daily plate, and I wanted to know which diet you are doing? I see your carb count is high for today and yesterday and that is probably your biggest problem..if you lower the carbs you will probably see a change in your appetite.

I was eating like 5 potato chips a night from my son giving them to me and that has caused me to stall big time..who knew only 5 chips could have such an effect! So i know how temptation can be...just try to stick with it and let us know if you need any encouragement!!

Thanks for the input flagal! I'm following low cal only... not low carb. I'm using thedailyplate.com to calculate my calories. And the daily recommended value for carbs is estimated at 300g.. I've only had 61% of that today. I used to eat like that before Kimkins and never had this happen before.

Also, I was eating lower carbs for the last 3 weeks (under 20 every day) and had the same thing happen to me last week, so I don't think it's the carbs. Hmmm... !

Kami, why don't you stay on low carb but add more carbs. Just my opinon but after all the years of dieting, low carbing is the only way for me, and for lots of others. Why not just figure on adding in some "other" carbs, keep your carb count at 30 or 40 grams but add some dense vegies and fruit. I truly believe for those of us that have a hard time losing weight, mixing up Low Carb Plans is what may work. Also are the foods you eating on low calorie foods that would stick to your ribs?????? Keep you satisfied??????

Also, I wanted to mention, I don't believe anyone should be eating 500-800 calories a day only. I know in the plan it says to keep calories low, but really as a woman period, you should not dip below 1000-1200 per day. Just met with my doctor and that's what she said. Maybe you were getting hungry on kimkins because you weren't getting enough calories in, I remember in the beginning I only ate 700 calories and I wasn't losing, I bumped that up to 1000 and whoosh....

Hopeful, I was wondering if you are willing to share your basic daily menu. I am also having a hard time staying focused because of not really hunger but bordom. I am most days under 800 calories as well. I know everyone is different but you maybe doing something that would help me. I am grasping for straws because I do not want to set myself up to fail.

I am experiencing the same thing this week. Of course, TOM is here so it might be a factor, but last week I was eating like 500-600 calories a day and felt full and this week, I'm eating around 1000 calories and still not satisfied. I try to stay with meat and eggs and a bit of greens, but last night just before going to bed the Lindt Pistache bars my boyfriend gave me were like calling my name! I drank a bottle of water and slept it off. But oh man, it was a definite craving!

Hey Antigone and Foxy2137, this is probably going to be long, so bear with me. I only have the real hungry time around my normal eating times, a week before my period and that has been about it. I believe if you are in true ketosis your appetite will be less and your stomach will shrink, as will your hunger. So first check on your level of ketosis and if you are not in it, get in it doing k/e for 5 days straight, you can do anything for 5 days. Then what I did, is add some salad veggies, and now I am eating lean protein, salad vegies, other vegies, along with Salad Spritzer and sometimes some mayo and pickle relish. I am keeping my carbs under 20 and my calories around 1000-1200 depending on the day and how I feel. I found that if I eat too little calories my body shuts down. So here is what I typically eat, and it may be boring to some people, but I have to eat the same thing, easy things, or else I get in trouble. I also know my triggers, and even though some people can have sugar free jello, cream cheese, cheese period, I can't.

Breakfast is usually either egg beaters 1 cup, with lots of seasoning, chives, either fresh salsa or fresh tomato, about 6 slices of mushrooms, and spray butter. Sometimes I'll have some turkey sausage or turkey bacon with 2 Egglands Best Eggs.

Lunch is usually 2 oz. of turkey breast with pickle relish, or some tuna with a bit of mayo on a bead of lettuce with some cucumber and tomato, or a chicken breast.

Dinner is a salad with a lean meat dish, I use Ground Turkey a lot, tonight I had nothing in the cupboard so I made some ground turkey with raman noodle seasoning, soy sauce, can of water chestnuts, and 4 packets of splenda all together and we thought we ordered out for Chinese Food. I make naked fajitas, naked enchiladas, lemon pepper cod, and I usually don't finish my portion.

I drink water, crystal light, diet soda, black coffee, and if I am sick of my 100 oz of plain water, I'll add a bit of sugar free koolaid to my water. Yummy. I have to be extreme for my body.

If I get a craving and it isn't a meal time I will eat peanuts, which is not on kimkins plan but I have said on another thread, you have to do what is right for your body.

Does this help at all? Make sure you are eating enough, and if your hungry that means you need to eat, grab a hunk of turkey, or a bite of chicken, and I would suggest you keep your calories much higher than 500-800 I don't know all your stats but that is hard too lose on for me.

Rather than quitting lc, maybe you should do a "cycle" of Atkins for awhile. Check out the thread "Calling all Kimkins Maintainers..." There are a couple of girls who cycle back and forth between Atkins and Kimkins, and seem to be having really steady results, without any misery or major binges. I hope you feel better soon - for me that would be a binge waiting to happen, that's for sure!

Thanks Antigone!

I don't feel so alone with this issue now! I felt this way only once last week during a 500-800 low carb diet.. and now I'm having normal amounts of everything and experienced it again. Maybe it WAS a craving. Maybe my body was trying to make me binge! I could have easily, but I knew I couldn't really be hungry because of everything I had already drank and ate.

Kimkimy,

That's a good idea. Never thought of that. Maybe I will try that if this doesn't work out for me. I've been working out all week and pretty vigorously (for someone like me). I'm not experiencing any loss, and for now I'll account that to muscle mass... BUT if I don't lose anything by the end of next week, I will DEFINITELY give the cycling a try. (I'll probably give it a try within a few weeks even if I do lose). Neat idea!

Hopeful, Thanks for the response. I found this board about 3 weeks ago and have been trying to take it all in. It is a little overwhelming and I am trying to find the right combination for my body. My normal day consist of a protein shake for breakfast, turkey for lunch and some sort of chicken or turkey for dinner. I do snack on turkey pepperoni when I feel an urge. I am for now just going to go back the the K/E for at least 3 days to see if that helps. Once again thanks, everyone on this board has been so helpful.

It's because you had a BM =P For me, no matter how hungry or constipated or whatnot I was prior to it, afterwards, the sudden extra room for the digestive system to move more into creates this vacuum that makes my stomach start making loud noises. And I find that not all protein/fat keeps me full in the same way. For example, sliced deli turkey from the counter will not. Deli roast beef from the counter is better. Eggs are even better. If it's my lunch, I'd rather have 6 ounces of roasted chicken breast (skinless) and 1 egg and just not snack until dinner 6 hours later. I actually eat 3 meals of about 300 calories each (leaving room for a tablespoon of caesar dressing for my celery snack after dinner and maybe an egg if I get hungry throughout the day). Then I just make up for it by jogging 2-3 miles during my workout. Constantly being in ketosis helps my workout by not having to deplete my glycogen stores first.

Hey neighbor, do you use Fitday? It tracks everything for you, I keep it up on my screen all day and then enter as I eat or drink. Be careful of eating too many nuts though, they are high in fat...

Nope, don't use fitday. I'm doing this on my own...I know its a little risky, but I've done various diet plans over the years, so I KNOW how much I can and can't have. I did pack a 1/4 cup of almonds today to stave off some hunger pangs later in the afternoon. Plus, for the first time last night I had a snack size (100 cals) can of abercore (sp?) tuna with some dijonaise in it and a couple tsps. of sweet pickle relish. As long as I ate it quickly I was able to get past the tuna taste. I never thought I could eat tuna...so I got past that! I'm going to do that more often (on weekends especially) when I need a quick pick-me-up!

Technically I am doing a variety of plans...and if I am hungry, I eat some protein.

Are you having hunger pangs/pains in your stomach or are you craving more food, even though you've already eaten?

I suffer from "hunger" pangs/pains all the time. I believe it has contributed to my weight gain because I tend to want to eat to keep my stomach "full". My doctor diagnosed me with gastritis and put me on a type of stomach medicine that has completely eliminated this "endless hungry" feeling in my tummy. Now I eat my three meals a day with no hunger pains in between meals.

Well I believe FITDAY is an awesome tracker if your up to it. I can only speak of my experience right now doing kimkins/my own plan of low carbing, and I find that staying around 60 g of protein keeps me happy and full. I love the little bit of mayo and pickle relish, I do it a few times a week. Today I am boiling some chicken breasts and making chicken salad for lunch. Going to through some dill, and mustard ground up in it also. YUMMY...

Nope, I truly was hungry. I was undereating (less than 1,000 cals.) and that was affecting me. I am one who needs to eat smaller meals more than 3 times a day or I get lightheaded and VERY irritable. Drinking water has helped alot, but again I need the smaller meals more often to remain satisfied. That's why a few nuts here and there are not going to be that detrimental...of course if it slows down my loss, I'll try something else.

I have some tuna ("salad") for a quick snack today and a green salad with some grilled chicken on it for lunch. Plus I brought one piece of part-skim string cheese and my little baggy of nuts too. I like having a safety net in case I start feeling yucky (lightheaded, etc.) because I need some protein. I'll check out fitday and see what its about. Thanks!!

To answer that question, it was definitely a HUNGRY feeling. I didn't actually WANT to eat, but my stomach felt like I hadn't eaten anything alllll day! The only difference is that it wasn't grumbling like it usually does when I really am hungry... it just felt very empty and VERY HUNGRY. It's okay now. But who knows if it will happen again next week?

Hi all! I must have had a breakthrough, because today I've definitely been LESS hungry and have had more energy. Plus, we were at the mall earlier this evening and I walked right past the cookie counter at Mrs. Field's and didn't even think twice about buying a cookie! My son asked for one and I told him no, there were other "treats" at home. I even got a chicken taco salad and it was really yummy!

On another note, if you haven't tried the egg muffins, I definitely suggest you do. They are super duper easy to make and a couple of them fill you up. I love it that I can make some for dinner and have a few extras for the next day. Nuke 'em right up and you have a quick breakfast! Whoot!! Gotta love those easy peasy recipes!!

Oh by the way, I'm down 15 and loving it!!
