Too Much Energy?!?!

Well I have been doing K/E since 6/19 and I did cheat on the 4th, but I am back into ketosis. I want to know if anyone else has my symptom...I used to have to take a nap during the day and have at least 9 hours of sleep a night...well since being in ketosis I am fine with 6-7 hours of sleep and no nap! That is crazy for me I drink 1/2 a mug of coffee a day and the rest of the day I drink green tea (which I have been for over 2 years now) but my energy level is ridiculously high to the point where I had to take some melatonin last night just to go to bed..anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I think it might be connected to serotonin receptors in the brain, or whatever neurotransmitters affect energy levels and sleep, which is related to carbohydrate intake (or, in our case, lack of it). When I first did M/E a while back while on Atkins, I was getting about 4 hours of sleep a night, and didn't sleep for 2 nights in a row!

There are no clinical studies that melatonin is effective, but I have used it and it seems to help me with sleep. I'm loathe to take a "real" sleeping pill, so I went with melatonin, and it helps.

Are you exercising? Because that might help you get to sleep as well.

no I am not, but I need to I know that...I just have to get motivated to do it, I have the energy..lol

My doctor told me to start taking valerian root for my sleep problems...i would wake up often in the middle of the night for a few hours and it helped but i would be soo tired the next morning, so then she suggested melatonin and i always wake up refreshed and I actually took it for a month straight and did not have to take it again since then until last night...lol

Yep, and I thought I was the only one! lol
I also drink green tea during mid day. I am on day 6 of the program and I now only need about 6 hours of sleep. I have so much energy during the day that it is crazy! Before I started the program, I woke up several times during the night and wanted a nap by 10 AM!

I have definitely had this symptom! I was totally a daily napper, and given the opportunity, I probably would have stayed in bed all day! Now, I'm Little Miss Late Night Poster on various forums. I answered an email last night that my mom had sent me. When I talked to her on the phone today, she said "What were you doing up at 3 am?! Maybe we should start a chat group together?
Take care,
Kim

Oh, and I forgot to add: I had a cheat for a couple of days last week, and desperately needed a nap! That carb crash is amazing!
