A question about exersise and maintaining.
Hi,
I am about to start K/E tomorrow and was just wondering if I would be better off going to the gym while I was on the plan? Not because I want to lose faster...well I do but I figured if I had more muscle, then I can slowly go back to eating normal (but healthier) because my muscles will be burning more calories? Because I just can't see this as a long term plan...(there is only so much eggs I can eat hahaha) So can you let me know ? ![]() |

I personally would not recommend going to the gym when starting K/E..I would say after 3-5 days when you know your body is in ketosis and you start to add back veggies then yes by all means go...but I know from personal expirience the first few days of K/E I had no energy and felt bad...but now I have so much energy I could probably run (well walk) 2 or 3 miles a day (if it wasn't so darn hot)! Good luck and let us know how you are doing!!

I agree with flagal. It's better to wait and get past the first 3-5 days, and it could be even a little longer than that. If your diet was really carby up until now, you need to drain your glycogen stores and switch over to burning body fat. There are some physiologic mechanisms in place in making this switch that cause people to have headaches, fatigue, or other mild symptoms (that are temporary) until the switch is made completely.
Once you are past this stage though, which most of the time isn't longer than a week, you will have increased energy and can start working out. I don't think any mild exercise would be a problem, like walking or a little light weightlifting, but anything strenuous should wait until you are well into ketosis. Keep us posted! ![]()

Give your body a chance to adjust to your new way of eating first. Then start your workout routine. That is what I am doing. I gave myself seven days to get used to my new way of eating. On Monday I will start my workouts (esp. since I have tons of energy these days!).

For the flip side of the coin...
I would continue and did continue working out. I don't let anything get in the way of my workouts and I think using a change in diet as just another excuse not to do it ![]() Seriously, you may not have the greatest workouts while you are adjusting - but even if it isn't good it is doing something that is GOOD for you..
