Ketostrips

Ok I have been reading and reading but cannot find a definitive answer. To be in ketosis do your test strips HAVE to be deep purple. Or is any amount of change an indication of ketosis. My test strips are always between small and moderate. I am pretty sure that i have been in ketosis. I have the breath odor.. and urine smells different... etc

Any advice?

Some people never get dark purples on the sticks and are in ketosis and do just fine. The odors do indicate you are. If you have noticed having much less of an appetite also, you ARE in ketosis and I would not worry about them not going dark purple. ESPECIALLY if you start to drop weight, don't let the sticks make you crazy

The sticks are merely an indicator of your body lossing excess weight. As long as they are anything but neutral your body is doing what you want it to do -- loss fat.

Be happy for even pink.

One thing to be aware of is that a deep purple reading can indicate that you're not taking in enough water.

The sticks work for some, but not for others, so if they don't work for you please don't get discouraged!

I keep hearing about the sticks, where can you purchase them at? Can I get them at my local Walgreens or any other pharmacy?

Yes Walgreens carries them. You can get 50 for 9.99 (walgreens brand) I noticed you can buy them here as well. 100 for 6.99 plus shipping.

I've seen them in various drugstores, usually near the diabetic supplies.

One hint to save some money... Cut the ketostrips in half lengthwise -- You'll get twice as much for your money!

I would use them just whenever I wasn't sure I was in Ketosis. Ketosis can get pretty obvious after a while once you learn how your body and mind feel while the switch is on so to speak. After a while, you really don't need the sticks at all, although some people get quite obsessive about them. I found that they could be a HUGE motivation killer.

Yea. For me, the results vary wildly. For example, if I had just eaten lunch and I had two eggs, within the next hour or so my strips would be small to moderate. If I had just worked out, then, of course they're a bit darker. If I had drank 20 cups of water that day, then it gets diluted and sometimes even doesn't show trace. But normally, I'm just at "trace". I tend to need to use them to even see if I'm showing ketosis... but even then I'm not sure: sometimes I think it's just the food I had just eaten. But, I do know that if I had even a bit of blood sugar from carbs in me, it shows completely neutral for a long time =o)

Walmart carries these as well. I believe they are cheaper there. Just a suggestion!

Thanks Lisa Marie,

I got him at the Humane Society, and he is just a blessing! We named him Cesar (Millan) after the "Dog Whisperer". LOL (I think the dog is teaching us!!)

Hello This is my 5th day on Kimkins and I was wondering how long did it take for you to get in the ketosis stage?

Less than a week, maybe 4 or 5 days? I was fairly low carb when I started K/E, so it only took me a couple of days.

If you were very carby before 5 days ago, it could take a little longer. If you follow the plan according to the way it is written, you will get there!
