WOE: Atkins, roughly
Fat/protein percentages Q?

I just might give this a shot (at least for a while.) I've done Atkins and been successful for a while, although, gosh darn it, when I started eating circus peanuts and fries the weight came back!

Anyway, after a day of two eggs, a burger, a few beans, a little salad and some shrimp, with a little tea, a bit of mayo, Fitday says my fat percentage is 61 percent. Now, that's not bad for Atkins, but if I'm going to eat lean ground beef and eggs, how can that percentage be much lower? What is expected? Anybody got the recommended percentages?

I'm still not done reading, but I haven't run across this info yet. If I had the $$, I'd actually join Kimkins site, but I just don't have the cash right now.

Thanks for any info!

The percentages are going to vary depending on what you eat. I've been as low as 20% fat and as high as 53% fat on K/E. On M/E, 53% fat would have been low for me. I stick pretty strictly to low-fat meats. I definitely don't eat beans, mayo, or beef burgers. You can keep an eye on the fat percentages, but as long as you are below 20 in your carbs, there is probably a pretty good range you can be inside of on the fat. I would just be aware of if it's stalling you or not.

The only thing I'd be after if I joined would be recipes. I think the support here is fantastic. Certainly everything you need to know about the plan is here in that thread where she's responding to questions. A lot of this plan is playing it by ear, too: If you make changes in your plan, like lower fat, higher fat, no diet soda, increasing diet soda, increasing red meat, decreasing it - whatever - just take note of if it's stalling you or not.

After one week of being very strict about the plan, I've lost 8 pounds and I'm thrilled. I don't have far to go, that was about 25% of what I needed to lose.

Hi! There aren't technically percentages or a set amount, just to eat lean protein (not hamburger), keep fat minimal - only what you need to make the diet work, and carbs under 20. The figures I've seen listed repeatedly by successful losers (sounds like an oxymoron, eh?) are: carbs under 20 (that's total carbs - no subtracting for fiber), fat grams between 20 and 40, protein between 60 and 90 grams. Hope this helps!

I've had the same question basically. I just started this WOE and most days my fat intake has been a huge part of my fitday pie chart. (I'll have to go back and check percentages)
Anyway, I logged on just now to specifically see if I could find others who've lost weight with carbs 20 and lower even if their fat intake was higher than desired.
I'm hoping that once I get 'inducted' and the appetite suppression kicks in, along with the steel wall against cravings, I will adjust to less fat intake. This is only my 3rd day.

Any suggestions, ideas or encouragement? or
