can eating such low calories affect me in maintenance?

i've completed exactly 7 days on k/e and am loving it so far but i'm curious as to how eating such low calories will affect me in maintenance, when i'm eating more. this week my calories have ranged from 598 to 247 but mostly on the lower side.

i'm probably worrying about nothing but if anyone has any thoughts on this or has tips on the best way to transition into maintenance i'm all ears.

someday i would like to just pay the one time fee for kimmer's site so i can ask her my questions directly (and also give her the money she deserves for introducing me to this invaluable weight loss plan) but right now i just don't have the money.

I think Kimmer doesn't believe in very low calorie diets screwing up the metabolism. I do though. Which is why I'm going to try cycling so that my body won't be used to such low calories.

But hey, it was Kimmer who lost like 200 pounds

I agree with Antigone. I am careful about my calories and try not to go below 800 a day. Really, my average is about 1000. I also do higher calorie days once a week or so around 1500 - 1800. Maybe I'm not losing as quick as some but I don't feel deprived or like I'm setting myself for failure in the end.

I will say that I feel like I lose slower than others doing this plus exercise! I average 3 lbs a week.

Just my opinion, anyway! I think we all need to find what works for us best.

You need calories, those numbers are so low. You are probably losing weight but at what cost?
There's muscle being burnt most likely.
Sadly I stayed on induction too long and might very well have triggered my thyroid to die off.
Think about your health in the long run and add calories. I doubt kimmers wanted you to go so low.

hi tiggerr,

i really appreciate your concern. i haven't really been aiming to keep my calories that low i just don't have very much of an appetite. i don't think kimmer would think anything of it since she herself water fasted and kept calories very low. she also said she didn't believe in muscle deterioration after week two (i hope i got that right) but then again, she isn't a doctor. its confusing because i see all sorts of studies saying water fasting and very restricted calories have health benefits and make you live longer but most mainstream sources have you believing you'll die if you do that!

its a lot to think about. i am going to try to up my calories a little bit. i'm just not sure how i'm going to force myself.

thanks again

cycling sounds like a good idea. i've been doing that without trying i guess but my range hasn't been that drastic. i think i'll try to aim for some 800 calorie days. thanks!

WOE: Eating Low!
Just FYI...I was one of the low calories people - 500 cals a day for about 4 months. In maintenance, I actually bumped my cals and fat up to around 1000 to start (but still kept my carbs sort of low) and STILL lost 1.5 lbs in maintenance. I was absolutely stuffed on 1000 cals! Since then I sometimes will have more carbs (like a bagel for breakfast and then eat good the rest of the day) and have been able to maintain so I don't think the low calorie thing affected me (other than I eat much smaller portions now just because that's what I'm used to)!
