New here, can I join? A few questions too!
Hi everyone! I am new here and I was hoping to join all of you. I have been reading and reading as much as I can to get the gist of this " new way of eating." (don't want to say diet!)
I went to the grocery store today to stock up, and I am starting K/E tomm. My first question is, lunchmeat. Is it okay? I bought Turkey Sausage, the big kind that look like brats. Okay? The think I am most confused about is how much to eat. I know Adkins is as much as you want. When do I stop with this? I plan to join Fitday also. The other thing is, after reading all these threads and responses, I am a little concerned about stalling or gaining. It seems like lots of people have trouble with this. Any suggestions? I am sure I will think of more, but for now that is all. ![]() Meagen |

!Here is a few answers, or my opinions anyway! 1. I don't eat lunchmeat because sodium makes me bloaty. YMMV! Also, I would check and see what the additives are in the turkey sausage. If it looks good, I would eat it! 2. I think you should eat until you're satisfied, not stuffed. The first few days, or even longer, you may eat more but once ketosis comes your appetite should be suppressed pretty well. 3. As for the threads about stalling/gaining, really you have to look at the big picture (I need to too ) that while this WOE is really a quick way to drop pounds, we still might not lose something everyday and there are many things that will cause a temporary gain - salt, exercise, too little sleep, etc etc etc! I personally like all the posts talking about the stall/gain issue because we really are a big support group here and we can all learn from each other! |

Hi, Meagen and welcome! I agree about the additives in prepared luncheon meats. At least try to choose the ones that use the fewest additives and the most natural ingredients. If you find you have time, you can whip up your own turkey sausage (patty type) in minutes by using a pound of ground turkey (I use turkey breast) and about a teaspoon of each of the following: ground sage, crushed red pepper, ground fennel, garlic powder and salt. It isn't too much trouble, but I tend to avoid all prepackaged foods because I am afraid of food additives and what the food industry is not telling us, just me.... Regarding what to eat, here are the guidelines I cut and pasted from the Kimmer guidelines sticky: Rules for Kimkins and K/E Here's the guidelines for Kimkins: *Up to 20 total carbs (not 'net') *Up to 3 cups salad type veggies or *Up to 2 cups salad veggies + .5 cup 'cooked' *70-90 lean protein grams *No LC products, treats, junk or alcohol *Just enough fat to make your menu work (don't overdo) Here's the guidelines for the Kimmer Experiment (not M/E): *As much lean protein as you desire *Length of time is 3-5 days depending on how 'carbed up' you are *Purpose is to experience 'real' ketosis (weight loss, no appetite) *Useful as a springboard for other LC programs *No alcohol, no cheese *Basic condiments and spices OK (watch catsup & A1 sauce) Above taken from page 1 of "Ask Kimmer" I printed these out and have them stuck on my fridge, although I don't refer to it as much as when I first started, since I am getting pretty used to eating this way. Good luck with everything! ![]() Lamb

Thank you everyone. I am very excited to start this. I am going to go and boil a bunch of eggs right now. I have a question though. I want to make some egg muffins, on K/E can I have southwestern egg beaters?
Thanks again! Meagen |

I don't know if anyone will see this, but what about fiber? I have read where some people are taking supplements. I remember when I was on Adkins being "backed up". With Kimkins, I would think this would really be a problem.
Thanks again! |

Hi! I eat the Southwestern and I've never had a problem with them. You can also use hot sauce (that was my next question lol). As far as the plumbing problem...Some people take the sugar free metamucil. A lot of people use Milk of Magnesium, Milk Thistle or Smooth Move Tea. I fortunately haven't had this problem (I think it's my coffee that keeps me regular, but not sure. Not gonna question the grace of the diet gods, just gonna be grateful and hope that they continue to consider me worthy of "movement"! LoL) I've also seen people just occasionally use half of an ex-lax or something like that, but there seems to be a lot of concern about becoming "dependent" on it. Hope some of this helps! Good luck!

I started K/E this morning and it seems like I am going to have a really hard time getting calories in. Does anyone know how many I should aim for? I am starving right now and have a horrible headache. I think I need to eat more snacks. I LOVE the egg muffins, I have already had 4 today!!

I think calories are a YMMV thing- are you doing exercise ? I do moderate exercise a few times a week and feel best at about 800 - 1000 calories.
How are you feeling? |
