how to keep going on K/E?
As I just posted in another thread, I'm really struggling with the "all meat (& eggs) menu" now. Only the fast weight loss is spurring me on. (I literally wanted to drink the ranch dressing that I was putting on my husband's honey BBQ chicken salad!)
I'm looking for any suggestions. I am having such a hard time getting motivated to even bother eating since I don't care for the protein options. If anyone cares to look at my Fitday link below, you will notice that I am struggling to hit the 500 calorie mark each day. Certainly I have enough body fat to sustain my basal caloric needs, but not really any appetite. This is my 11th day on K/E and I'm needing something, mental or otherwise. ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated! ![]()

I know what you mean! I'm so bored with eggs and meat, I actually can't even look at it anymore, and it's only been a week. I never thought I would CRAVE salad and vegetables the way that I used to crave chocolate! Just shows you how quickly you adapt.
I try to do the meat and eggs only thing during the week and then I do Kimkins over weekends. |

It is hard doing K/E it gets boring, but I like that because then I am not tempted by the taste of good food to eat more! I have been adding a slice of Healthy Life LC bread that is 8 carbs 35cal and 1g of fat to my turkey and lite mayo. I still get under 20 carbs a day, usually I only have 10 carbs. I have still been losing fast and had no problem adding it so you might give it a try.

Hey guys ~ I so know what you mean about craving veggies!!!
Who knew??!!Yesterday was my first day on K/E and by the end of the day I was drooling at a can of green beans. (not to mention the watermelon my DH and kiddos were digging into) Normally I'd be so carbed up those things wouldn't even register on my radar. ![]() Anyway, I'm new here and new to LC so I'm certainly no expert, but I did have a thought. Since K/E is so restrictive maybe it's best to use it as a 3 - 5 day springboard then get right into Kimkins. I think we might actually loose faster (and definitely stay with it longer!) if we slowly add in veggies and other things on the plan. I'm on day 2 of K/E and planning to do at least 3 days. Then I'll add in one thing at a time so I'll be able to easily identify 'trigger' foods that give me cravings or make me feel hungrier. I think it'll help me keep this feeling of 'take it or leave it' about food too, cause when I start adding little goodies and flavorful things is when I start straying. Just a thought... Cheers and Good Luck! |

I have found that if I just have a small amount of vegie, just a bite or two occassionally then I do fine. Right now it is some Kohlrabi because it has a nice satisfying crunch to it. Mostly I am not hungry so it isn't so hard. I think about food sometimes but it is with a passing fond memory. I do use a little salsa on my eggs also. Vinegar and splenda on my tuna (really...it tastes good!) The weight loss keeps me going also.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions. I'm not sure if it will give me significant change in my appetite, though. I'm only at 54 calories today and I am so NOT HUNGRY. I didn't eat breakfast and for lunch I forced myself to eat about a half an ounce of hamburger left over from last night's pattie that I couldn't finish. Plus I tried to eat a hb egg, but got down only about a third before gagging. I'm thinking my body is resisting protein-only now and I'm going to have to transition over to Kimkins. How much does it effect the weight loss rate once I switch over?

Hi!
Did you see the post on the kimkins cooking videos? I thnk it is still on the front page. Also, search around for some bbq type sauses that you can make at home that would change the tast, and there are a lot of different protein shake versions...like take one of those little crystal lite packets for a 16 oz bottle and mix it in a blender with a scoop of vanilla protein powder and 8 oz of water and a four ice cubes. Look around...there are lots of recipes! I have been stocking up so that I don't get burned out...I am on day 2 Hope that helps!Carey |

When I read the "Ask Kimmer" web site, she suggested the meat and egg diet for 3 to 5 days and then on to adding salad. It is still low carb, low fat. I think the weight loss was 3-5 lbs. a week doing that. All you can do is try it and see how it works for you. You can always go back to K/E. Pam

I agree, it can be boring. I'm back to Kimkims after several days of indulging in legal food that kicked me out of ketosis (maybe its the cheese). I'm thinking of doing K/E but I dunno, I guess I'll have a cup of salad greens for dinner. I was a big salad lover even before this WOL. What I do now is the kimkim's chicken enchilada recipe...I just don't put much sauce, just enough to moisten the meat. After two weeks I gag at the thought of eating dry, grilled chicken plain.

When It's Hard To Keep Going....
Hey, guys. Just wanted to add my thoughts to this topic.
When it seems difficult to follow the food plan I have to spend some time refocusing on the big picture. I pull out my food journal and reread all the reasons I am doing this in the first place. I remind myself that I am eating to get healthy and lose weight, not to entertain myself. I look at my weight loss chart and make myself happy with the downward spike of the graph. I go put on my size 22/24 jeans and stand in front of the mirror holding them out so I can see that just a few months ago they were tight on me and now another person could almost climb inside them with me. I look online for new recipes and new ways to fix egg whites and turkey breast. I add a cup of salad to my last menu of the day. I take a walk and enjoy moving around in this smaller body. I thank God for giving me the tools to finally get this FAT off of my poor, overstressed body. I pray for strength and courage to keep doing what is right. I remind myself that being hungry is never an emergency. I go work on one of my projects or hobbies. I clean something. I call someone I have not talked to in a while. The list is endless. The point is, anything worth attaining is going to be hard. Maybe losing weight and keeping it off in a land of overflowing food and gluttony is the hardest thing of all. But it can be done, minute by minute, day by day, week by week, the pounds will go down and the health and self esteem will go up! Keep on keeping on! Lamb ![]()

Lamb, that's great advice!!!
I'm seeing a counsellor because I can't handle my issues with food by myself. For me, I have to make lists when I eat, what I eat, why I eat and what happened just before I felt like eating... Tedious, but today was the first day of me doing this and it has made me think about food less, actually! As for staying on track, that's usually no problem for me. It's keeping it off that's the problem!! I think you need to find a way to feel motivated, and make sure you keep eating the allowed foods.... Anyway, this is what I do: I make a list with all the things I'm looking forward to when I'm thin (or at goal weight, whatever you want to call it). When I'm tempted by food that's not on plan, I read my list. I exercise a lot. It seems to make me want to succeed even more and it makes me feel great afterwards! I feel so good, that I don't want to ruin it by eating off plan. I drink a glass of water when I feel like eating something. I wait 15 minutes and then if I still feel like eating, I eat something that's from my allowable food list. I make sure I have prepared allowed food with me at all times. Usually it's hardboiled eggs, cause they are easy to transport, but if you've got a fridge where you work, it could be whatever takes your fancy! I also cook chicken and turkey meatballs in advance and divide them in to small 3 oz portions for those snacky moments or when you're on the go. I pamper myself: I book myself in for a facial at my beauty center, or I give myself a manicure and pedicure, a full body scrub or I just read a good book whilst I soak in the bath with some nice lavender oil... You just have to find ways of rewarding yourself with non food items and also use non food items or events as ways of changing bad eating habits... Now of course it's easier said than done (hence the fact that I'm seeing a counsellor!!), but I'm sure that if you visualise your goals and focus really hard on your success, that you will achieve what you set out to do! Good luck! xxx. Last edited by Mimosa23 : 06-29-2007 at 08:55 AM. |
