How is Kimkins different from Atkins?
Please tell me the difference between Kimkins and Atkins? Are you losing weight faster on Kimkins? Have you tried both?
Thanks. |

Hi!
I'm *REALLY* new at this so I could be incorrect, but I think that Kimkins is based more on lean and real foods, i.e. no carb 'products' like shakes, etc... and no fatty meats or condiments - while still maintaining the less than 20 carbs per day goal. |

That is correct in part. Atkins you do not pay attention to calories or fat, on Kimkins you eat lean meat and keep calories low. On Atkins you count "net" carbs (carbs minus fiber) on Kimkins you count all carbs. On Atkins (the latest versions) you can eat anything (prepackaged foods, carb bars, etc.) Kimkins you avoid those packaged foods, those things that have sugar alcohols especially. Because you keep track of calories, eat low fat, and keep carbs at less than 20 total, you do loose fatser on Kimkins. That's the theory anyway. If you have heard of the Stillman diet it is very similiar to that.

Yes to what Angi said and I have done both and am losing faster with Kimkins. But when I get close to or at goal (18 lbs) I will transition to Atkins Owl/Premaintenence/Mantainance.

Ghada, I have heard some people say it makes them sleepless, however that never happened to me. I do have a lot of thirst and constantly have a diet soda, green tea, or water at my side.
As for how much you can loose, I am not a nutritionist so all i could do would be to guess. I know that the more you have to loose, the more over weight, the quicker it will come off. I have seen a lot of posts that people are losing about 3 to 5 pounds weekly. Then you have those amazing ones that loose a pound or more a day! See my siggy below for my weight loss. As long as I stay on low carb and mostly meat and eggs, I eat a bit higher fat than K/E(and a yogurt daily) i loose about 1/2 to 1 pound a day too, it is when i go off plan that i stall and it takes me days to get back to losing. So just pace your self and find what works best for you. Give it the full 5 days and if not happy with the loss, choose another path |

IMHO Kimkins works faster than Atkins. At least, I can say for me it is better than Atkins. I simply can't maintain the lbs dropping off if I eat a higher fat diet, like Atkins. I keep the fats low, eating more salmon, tuna, and chicken breast, rather than beef and pork. Although I do enjoy the occasional steak or pork chop. Both the steak and pork chops are of the very, very lean variety. I don't follow any set rules where veges are concerned except to eat low carb veges and keep my daily carb count at 20 or below. Although I have had the day here and there where the carb count went a little higher, only due to a few more veges than normal, but it didn't seem to hurt me too much. Once in a while I will have an ounce of cheese, but not often. Even a little cheese will stall my weight loss. I also try to keep my calories fairly low. That really helps. But I try to rotate the calorie count. Perhaps several days very low calories at between 400 to 700 and then I'll bump them up for a few days.....just to keep my body guessing
That way my body doesn't try to go into starvation mode and stop me from losing. When my weight loss slows down (as it is now), I will do several days of K/E to give it that boost again. I'm probably going to start K/E on Monday and do it for at least 3 to 5 days.K/E is very similar to the basic Stillman's Quick Weight Loss Diet (the low carb. one). However, Kimkins is not. There are no vegetables allowed on the original, basic Stillman's QWLD. MOST low carb diets will keep you fairly thirsty. For best health, try to drink as much water and/or no cal./carb. beverages as possible. If you can do the minimum of 8 - 10 glasses a day, your body will thank you for it and your kidneys will stay healthier. And many people here say that they lose faster. I know I do. Atkins stresses the 8 glasses of water in addition to anything else that you drink. Kimmers, who developed Kimkins said she hates to drink plain water and she drinks a lot of no cal/carb drinks. Whichever way you go, just drink...drink...drink. Some people say that the diet sodas with the artificial sweeteners stall or slow their weight loss. I think that is something that is different for each of us. I tend to drink a LOT of flavored water and green tea, all flavored with splenda. I very seldom get the additional 8 glasses of water on top of all else I drink. I'm doing ok, so I'm going to continue with what I'm doing. Ok...I'll stop rambling now. Hope the advice from us all has helped some. ![]()

Yes but...the original Atkins had NO fake foods as the bars and shakes hadnt been invented yet. Fat was however allowed in larger doses than many of us use now. There is an Atkins 72 group online here that uses the original plan which is not based on net but total carbs.

High fat in the absence of refined carbs is actually not hurtful. My doctor saw my blood workup after I lost 115 pounds in 7 months on Atkins eating bacon, eggs, cheese, olives (you get the idea)... my bloodword and cholestrol was awesome.
I had to pick his jaw up from the floor. (lol) Fat is the one thing your body does not convert to fat in the absence of refined carbs. Protein, however, can be converted to glucose. <---- And that is not happy |
