I have been following the Kimkins saga ever since she stomped off this board in a huff to begin her own website. Several things are glaringly evident in the WW article. First off her photo is obviously "doctored" as a lot of them are in WW and other such magazines. I saw the photos Kim posted after she first lost her weight (most on Atkins BTW) and she looked great but wasn't rail thin, just healthy looking. She looks like a scarecrow in the WW article and not like herself. Also it is obvious that the diet is simply about calorie restriction more than anything else. Of course the more protein one eats, the more satiated they are and thus are not hungry, but is severe calorie restriction really a healthy way to lose weight? I think not. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping no one dies on that diet.

Sure, ask away!.. I can't guarantee I have all the answers, but I think I know this pretty darn well.. The 14 Day Shape Up one for sure.. I also have the cookbook, outlining the plans along with all the recipes... Which book of his plans do you have? I started having thyroid issues about 3 years ago, tho didn't know what was going on. .I was gaining, but I was doing everything right! Now that I know what is happening, I know it's just going to be a littl harder for me to lose as fast as I normally do... But I;m up for it! I'm not cutting anything as far as calories, etc, I think I can just up my excerise.. That's where I'm starting anyway.. There is NO reason to cut food down so far...

Ok I just wanted the recipe to the soup in the article...cus it DONT look low carb... it looks like it has beans in it...anyone know? I had thought of joining when she first left here and went there but ended up not.... I was going to to support her...but after a great deal of thought I changed my mind and decided that the issues she had here were personal and for her to just up and leave...and she had a great following... who she did not take into consideration...was in my opion a little selfish.... I mean we are all in this together and we all approach this in a little different fashion. What works for one does not work for another... I find that when I am not losing its not Atkins... its ME (go figure) tweaking and adding a little of this and a little of that and innocently adding more carbs than my body can handle.

Joined the site Feb14th at 188 I'm now 155. Money well worth it with the support and dedication of the forum. I love this board too but Kimkins support over there is what made it stick this time.

pjsmom, give yourself credit instead of Kimmer. Yes, you joined her site but Kimmer tells people they don't have to exercise because she never did when losing her weight. You have been doing that and also been fasting off and on inbetween doing kimkins. That isn't in the kimkins plan. You have lost 33 pounds in 3 1/2 months. Most people lose that on Atkins as well. I think that you are the one that made it stick, not any other person.
Congratulations! |

wow, I am glad I started this post. Loads of great information. Can we sort of share recipes and ideas here. I have to admit, I do want to lose quickly even though it is not right, but for the short term then go on losing sensibly, but I was afraid of eating so low in calories. 300-400 calories might make you lose quickly, but how healthy is it? i am not saying that i want to od on fat, but 1-2 tbs of mayo in my tuna, a drizzle or two of evoo in my eggs or my veggies, maybe a slice of cheese on a burger, like that, but it seems like even that will be taboo. i want to lose quick but i dont want it to be so hard that i end up binging and gaining like i have in the past and still now. trying to follow and go quick, quick, quick and not seeing result is what gets me binging and acting like a fool. so i am here to get help and exchange ideas on how to do this once and for all. you all are great and i dont think 60 is too much, just for me right now every dollar counts and if i am going to spend it on one shot i want to make sure i have exhausted all other ways. thanks

ANY food plan that promotes super fast weight loss, applauds the use of countless cans of diet soda instead of water and NO exercise is a recipe for doom.
You know??? You can weigh 100 pounds and still be 50% body fat and be dehydrated? This sort of weight loss causes muscle loss...... and what is our heart? A muscle! I just can not stand by such a program and think anything good about it. Last edited by Silver Spice : 06-04-2007 at 02:37 PM. |

I'm a newbie, but I did invest time this weekend reading all 87 pages of the "Ask Kimmer" thread as well as the Atkins book. I have to admit that I started low-carbing because of the article, and yup, the magic bullet of ultra-fast weight loss sounded very good on first glance. I changed my mind about being so stringent, because I decided I didn't want to sacrifice that much for weight loss. The idea of restricting "free veggies" is just something I can't and won't do. And summer's almost here, so, it's gonna be berry time! I can't believe that my body chemistry will be harmed by eating these foods at their nutrition-packed peak when I functioned well on a Weight Watchers style eating plan with fabricated foods that had nothing to do with good health but were low in Points.
Kimmer struck me as a very giving person, and from what she shared of her life story, nothing that she has achieved came easy. I admire her strength, her dedication, and her commitment. I wouldn't take all her advice as gospel, because I tend to believe in credentialled experts. I am capable of filtering information and thinking critically. More importantly, I assume that people will realize that to avoid drinking water or exercising when their bodies want them to is a Bad Idea. Maybe I'm assuming too much? I certainly hope not!!!

I used to read these boards quite a bit, but have not read for over a year. Wow! I come back and it seems like Kimkins is taking over the world.
I must admit I was initially very impressed, but the more I read the more it seems to me that it is basically the Stillman/Atkins diet and it is also basically just a very low calorie diet. You cannot help but lose weight on 600 calories a day. Here in the UK it is possible to go on organised programmes based on a low cal (500/600 a day) diet but only under supervision through pharmacies or doctors. This suggests to me that such a low cal intake is not safe for an extended period. Although people may feel great, they may be doing damage to their bodies. I do feel that low carb is the way to lose weight - after all meat and veg is the diet our ancesters lived on for thousands of years, farming cereals is a relatively recent thing - but I worry that long term use of such a severe diet is not healthy. Of course it is everyone's individual decision and we all want instant results, but for me I know it is not the right path. I have other health issues to take into account and know that 'being hungry' is not really why I eat. I must admit I'm also concerned about the charging of $60 for info that seems to be available here for free and isn't really anything new. Plus, it seems a bit naughty to call an adaptation of someone else's diet plan your own; don't we all adapt diet plans? I was alarmed to hear someone mention that she seems to approve the use of laxatives - not sure if that is true, but using laxatives if you don't really need them is a bad idea. I don't mean this to sound like a diatribe against Kimkins, just my perspective after coming back to the boards after a long absence. |
