The usual formula for goal weight if you're sedentary (me) is 10-12X calories per body weight (118) which equals 1180-1410 so I'm right on target. I don't exercise. |

[quote=Antigone]Actually my fish was cooked in tamarind broth but I didn't have the soup, just the fish.
The broth didn't have sugar and thickeners. Just to let you know... tamarind broth is made by mixing high carb tamarind paste with broth of some sort (eg chicken broth). So it will be high carb. I can't tell you how much of the natural sugars from the tamarind the meat will absorb, but you might want to skip this while trying to lose weight. |

Hi Kimmer,
I've started watching my calories, and thanks to you, the scale is moving downward now. Just a question.. I think I know the answer but I want your opinion. My ketostix have shown purple in the moderate range even though the weight didn't go down. Well, yesterday, I kept my calories at around 950 per fitday, and only a few grams of carb, and I burned 400 cals during my workout. I'm down almost 2 lbs this morning, but the ketostix barely show anything.. almost a negative reading. is that because I used up more calories than i consumed? Just curious.. I used to totally go on the ketostix to monitor my progress, maybe I shouldn't. Thanks for taking the time to help us out.

That being said, when we switch to 'real' ketosis, ketones are what our body uses for energy (instead of carbs) ... and it's absolutely possible that your workout "ate" your ketones! Maybe try first thing in the morning with concentrated urine? Better yet, toss 'em and depend on your scale! |

Hi Kimmer! I normally post on "Low Carb Recipe Help & Suggestions". I came lurking over here and saw your thread. WOW.......you're terrific! I have a lot more reading to do. I only got to page 6. I do have a few ?s. 5 years ago I lost 25 lbs on WW. I was 51 years old and weighed 181 lbs./5' 8'' tall. My goal was to lose 30, which I did. I started to gain weight and switched to Somersizing, then Atkins. I lost the last 5 lbs. and have maintained it to date. I would like to lose about 5 more, but I guess I need to cut fat and SA deserts. The fat isn't too much of a problem, but the sweets are. Especially chocolate. Plus my husband and I drink wine every evening with dinner, and I eat low carb bread and use Carbquik. I weigh my self every day and stay within a 3 lb. range. I guess I could exercise and get off that way, but I wouldn't be consistant. Anyway, do you have any suggestions for me. Thanks! This is a GREAT thread!

Hi, this is a great thread. I've been lurking around for a week or so and made some posts crying for help, but didn't really get heard. Today I said to myself that I needed to start a thread and make my plea for help heard loud and clear.
Instead I stumbled to this thread. Thank god. I came here three or four years ago and read some of Kimmer's stuff. I knew she was on to something and some people were hammering her which I thought was weird, given it's a support site. Anyway, I tracked you Kimmer, wanted to figure it all out. I lost about 20 pounds back then and slowly gained it back. Then a year and a half ago, I was devastated by a terrible breakup, cheating stuff, the ickies, and went into a major depression. I lost 50 pounds. The first 30 came off like nothing. No problem. I worked on the last 20 pounds by eating fairly ATkins. I was down to 120. Beautiful weight for my 5'4" frame. That was November and I have been fighting to keep it there and losing the battle. That's when I came back here a week or so ago. I've been fighting 8-10 pounds of a gain for several months. First it was 2-3, I'd take it off, gain back 4, take it off, gain back 5 until now I am 134. I am scared to death. I mean it. Scared to death. But I found this thread. AMEN. I already had my morning coffee with cream. Then started reading the thread thoroughly. I immediately gave up the cream. I'm done for at least three days and maybe more. I'm doing the meat and eggs thing. I'm on it. Thank you, thank you. Thank you. Kimmer, Thank you. Cindy |

THANK YOU! kIMMER,
I'm finally down a lb! I've cut back on my calories and I'm counting carbs as well as calories, using fit day too, drinking lots of water (love water) and keeping my self moving. The best news yet is I'm no longer a diabetic, been on insulin and the the whole works for 25 years and in the last 3 years I've been able to kick it good bye. Been stalled for ever it seemed you helped me sort out what the Atkins diet was really all about . Thanks again and I'm such a I just found this thread what a great idea! KUTGP every one

No, not hungry. I actually lost my weight without my thyroid meds because I hadn't been taking them for over a year. I didn't feel any different when I took it (Armour) so when the Rx ran out I didn't refill it ($$). Eventually the tiredness took over and I felt "mom" tired more than usual so back to the doctor. My TSH was 128! Everything else depends on the thyroid for regulation so I shouldn't have been surprised that my total cholesterol was a staggering 496! I told my doctor I would take the meds but I didn't expect to feel any different. Wrong! He wrote for Synthroid and the very next morning I woke up before my kids, not tired in the least ... and it takes longer than 24 hours for Synthroid to fully take effect! If you're hungry, check your carbs. What carbs are you eating besides salad? That's where your hunger is coming from. Per Dr. Atkins, "severely restrict" your carbs and appetite suppressing ketosis will kick in. Cimitoch, my goodness you've been through the wringer! The important thing is that you're back on track, back in control. Are you in any of the Challenges? They'd be great for support!Gettenthere, well aren't you just the picture of a health makeover! Off your diabetes meds? That's fantastic!!! I'm glad the carb thing is making sense, it takes looking at it from a couple different angles sometimes, LOL. |

I've done fairly well today. I did eat alot of beef though. I ate three very small ground sirloin burgers. The package said 4% fat. I hope that is considered very lean. Oh and I cooked with olive oil twice. Is olive oil or any fat out when doing the Kimmers Experiment? Sheesh. And I don't know quite how to figure out how much beef I ate. I did get out the tape measure and measure one of them; it was 2.3 inches in diameter and about 3/4 inch in height or depth - you know what I mean.
I don't own a scale yet. If anyone can give me a heads up how much I may have eaten on the beef I would love it. I am using fit day and sort of trying to get as close as possible. Am I to understand that I can eat as much protein as I want on this 3 day Kimmer's Experiment? Thank you. Oh and please advise on the olive oil which I used for the eggs and for the ground sirlion. I used, very, very little. |

I'm guessing that's a 4-5 oz burger which is fine. The point of the Experiment is to enter 'real' ketosis by having carbs very, very low. Incredibly, there are some people who have never experienced the sensation! I always wonder about very low fat ground beef. One of the leanest cuts of beef is flank steak. Even if you cut off every visible speck of fat and see no visible marbling, it's still 45% fat ... so how do they get 4%? There's nothing 100% protein on a steer (is that what you call a boy cow, LOL?) so how do they get the fat percent so low? Per Fitday: Beef, flank, lean only, 0" fat, raw Fat: 45% Protein: 55% Depending on where you were carb-wise, the Kimmer Experiment may take 3-5 days. Eat as much lean protein as you need to so as to not feel hungry (eggs, too). One morning you'll wake up and think, "Hmmm, nothing really sounds good."
