M/E or Kimkins and how it relates to appetite suppression

First, how long does the appetite suppression take?

Second - what happens if that does not happen?

Can you still loose with large portions of protein?

Thanks for any thoughts on this topic . . . . .

If your carbs are low enough, and depending on how "over" you were before, about 3-5 days.

Why are you eating large amounts of protein? But to answer your question, if you're meeting your calorie requirements (no deficit), you won't lose ... there's no reason to.

Kimmer - I am hungry still!!!

I tried to eat just my lean hamburger patty for brekfast - but I wound up eating the fish fillet too! Plus - I am thinking of BBQing some chicken soon! I am pretty sure I am back in Ketosis - the metal taste in mouth my is very overwhelming (its been 1 1/2 days of M/E for me).

Did I describe it right - that is why I over eat protein, because I am still hungry. To keep hunger at bay for me (without adding in any extras as "fillers", nuts, LC candy/icecream, LC tortillas, cheese, ranch/bluecheese dressing, etc.) I have my body use to around 20ish oz. of protein a day. I do not like to sugar coat or underestimate things. I am calling a spade a spade, telling it like it is.

I am not weighting until the morning after I finish my 3rd day. That would be Friday morning. I think I may be disappointed if I do not start limiting my meat/chicken/fish, etc.

Have to tell you that yesterday was my 1st day of m/e and I was STARVING!!! Maybe because I am used to fillers/veggies?? Same thing this morning - ate 2 scrambled eggs and 3 oz leftover steak, 1/2 later...hungry! This time it isn't mental, just deep rumbling hunger pains. Nothing sounds good though

Did loose 1.5 pounds, so something is going right, but I am with you on the hunger thing - hopefully it will subside sooner rather than later.

Also, I ate 24 oz (precooked weight) meat yesterday And 5 eggs total! My protein for the day (per fitday) was 152. And I still lost

Good news for you!!!! - I think I was very similar yesterday! Today is heading in that direction too. According to the calorie deficit argument - why would you, me or anyone else be able to loose with that much protein? (Either it can happen (as you said it did) or it can't?

Calorie wise, I was only at 1247 (even with all that protein) - which for me is a little lower than what I am used to (generally around 1350-1600). So there still may be some argument for that, just not sure. 432 cals from eggs and 511 from a steak. That 500 was just one meal, almost 1/2 my day right there

The main difference that I see is my fat content! That shocks me, but it is actually a lot lower on m/e (at least days one and what I have planned for day two). Before m/e: 110-120 grms fat. On m/e: 65 yesterday and planned 60 today.

Surpirsing that it would go down, guess it was all of the heavy cream and cheese that upped it.

you can still lose for two reasons

#1 even if your calories were high yesterday, comparatively speaking--i bet they were still lower than what you were doing before, where you ate a lot of protein PLUS fats--the automatic decrease in total calories will help you lose

#2 not having the "extras" --cream etc. is lowering your total carb count for the day compared to your previous intake

i bet you'll be pleasantly surprised when you weigh after the third day...and then if you give your body a few more days for the appetite suppression to kick in...your calories will continue to decease...and that's how you'll continue to lose

hang in there!

I lost most of my weight on M/E (with a veggie here and there). I am on day 3 of M/E now. I've lost 4 lbs!

I do have days, even on strict M/E that I'm hungry for some reason. My best advise is to get up and do something else. Go for a walk, call a friend, whatever. Get your mind off of it. If you are still hungry, eat. Just eat meat!

On a side note, I have personally found that meat with a little fat (like a steak) keeps me full longer and I eat less of it. I don't advocate eating all high fat meat, but try adding it to one meal- say breakfast- and see if it doesn't hold you over longer....

Our eating patterns (past) and during M/E sound very similar. I too am at my best at around 1500 cals. We shall see . . . . meeting up w/ some girl friends tonight to take the kids to the Rain Forest Cafe. I do not plan to eat - which is fine, because I will need to be chasing my 2 year old DD around. There is NO way she will sit still. We are going early - so plenty of time to eat when I get home. I swear, my "pre-cooked" foods in the fridge look like I am planning a banquet for twenty. My "dealer" (a.k.a. Hilltop Market Butcher) has had some GREAT specials on meat/chicken/bacon/seafood lately. I can not believe how much food I got for $50 dollars.

I hope so! Most people looked like they were in the 900-1100 cal range doing either M/E or Kimkins. Here's to pleasant surprises! Thanks for the motivational "push" - got me off the fence!

Did any of you feel really slugish the first day with a headache? Because I do and the only thing different is that I started the M/E.

I am into my 3rd week of really curbing calories, and have NO appetite. I have hardly eaten today, because nothing sounds good! I plan to make a nice vegetable omelet in the morning, that does sound good. I've had a stressful week, (new job) and if that doesn't drive me to overeat, maybe I'm making some new good habits!
