Ketosis and Nausea, Kimmer Please

Kimmer, You posted a couple days ago that in deep Ketosis you feel nausea. All week I have been sick to my stomach and I can't stand the thought of food. I know you are not a doctor and I am not asking for medical advice but for you to elaborate a little about deep ketosis. Thank you, I really appreciate your input!!!!!

That nausea feeling is almost a "protection" by your system. IMO only, it's your body's way of not wasting energy (or stress) feeling hungry when in 'real' ketosis.

It doesn't happen in low cal high carb diets.

If the feeling is new to you, keep doing what you're doing ... pick at food through the day focusing on lean protein, if you feel you 'should' eat ... and the feeling can lessen a bit in about a week.

I love the feeling, not because feeling like you're going to throw up is so wonderful, but this is when you lose body fat way faster than 3500 calories = 1 pound is possible. It's nothing short of amazing, really.

I actually love that feeling...its probably all my imagination, but its like i can almost feel my fat burning. I wouldnt say that I get really sick to my stomach, just a dull ache.

How does it work, losing fat at a rate greater than 3500 cals/ pound??

It's what Dr. Atkins called "The Metabolic Advantage". Your fat burning is on super speed!

I loved that nauseous feeling during induction. It's such a great protection against overeating. But a friend of mine on the diet complained about it every day and finally quit the diet. I wonder if it's stronger in some people than others, even if they're both in ketosis, or if some people are more sensitive to it.

GoToGirl, I don't know if it is stronger in other people. I think we have this notion that you should eat and I at least forgot to listen to my body when I was piling on weight. Ketosis is a very strong signal and it scared me at first to not be hungry LOL!!! I do agree that it is a wonderful way to prevent overeating. I always remind myself that Dr. A says you should eat only when you are hungry and until you are satisfied.

Man, the nausea can really be a drag though! I know it keeps you from overeating, but mine's been so persistent lately I find myself just wanting to lie around. I guess it's worth it to burn the fat, but I am not really losing much these days and the feeling is keeping me from the gym. I need to suck it up and not wallow in feeling a bit sick to my stomach. I've had it in the past, but this time around it's really persistent.

Thanks for the reassurance that it's actually a good thing.
