MAJOR LCF POSTER!

ODE to KIMMER from a long absent poster-turned-lurker-turned-LOSER!!!
Where do I start? I was an enthusiastic member of this BB a few years ago. Sadly for me, I fell off the LC wagon due to a string of personal crises and lost touch with old friends here. When I tried Induction over and over again, after the initial fluid the weight loss just didn't happen. In desperation I changed tack and - don't shoot me - even became a vegan.
(Never did learn to do things in moderation!) As well as my sentiments about animal welfare, I'd never heard of an overweight vegan. Well, I must have been the first in history to pile ON the pounds. Then I tried Weight Watchers. (Does headless chicken spring to mind?) I felt so deprived and was losing a maximum of 1lb a week, if that. And I kept remembering the fantastic feeling of health and vitality I'd had the first time round on Atkins....Well, I finally 'saw the light' and decided this would be the last time I'd ever need to lose weight. I started strict Atkins Induction yet again on 7th June. In the first 48 hours I lost 5lbs. Then I PUT ON 3lbs over the remaining 12 days. Aaargh. My Ketostix were reading moderate ketosis, but my weight stayed put. I started reading this BB again, avidly, looking for answers. I discovered Kimmer. What an inspiration! Kimmer has my total and life-long devotion and I've never even met her! EVERYTHING she says is right - for slow losers like myself. I'd love to be one of the lucky ones who lose well on straight Atkins. The food is sensational and deprivation is nil. But for those of us, like me, who have possibly abused LC in the past and are finding it hard to lose, her advice is extraordinary. Not only has she achieved unbelievable results and maintained them herself, she is still here helping others. That, I feel, deserves all the many accolades this BB has heaped on her. As for me, I just knew I'd be unable to follow her advice. I love my food and am, well, greedy. There's no other word for it. Food is my comfort, my celebration and my friend. I love cooking, eating out and anything to do with food. But I kept reading Kimmer's inspirational posts and thought hard about the possibility of reaching my goal far, far sooner than I'd hoped - and maybe changing my dependence on food along the way. I need to see results to keep my motivation going. Losing slowly may be fine for many people. The journey takes a lot longer but there's no great sacrifice along the way. It would be fine for me too. The trouble was, I wasn't losing at all. I felt like giving up entirely until I read Kimmer's ideas. She kept saying that Stillman's was the fastest route. I thought it sounded impossible to be that disciplined, even for 3 days. But it's really not that hard! If I can do it, anyone can. I'm on the 4th day, my appetite has NOT yet been suppressed....but I'm losing a pound a day. I'll take that. And the interesting point is this: my Ketostix aren't turning colour at all any more. The readings before must have been dietary fat. All I know is that I need to get the weight off. I hope to return to Atkins '72 eventually, when and if my will power weakens, but losing a pound a day is the best motivator in the world. And the food isn't so bad - I'm not ravenous. I eat spicy chicken, steak, eggs and a FF cheesecake following the original Stillman rules. (A mix of FF curd cheese and eggs, vanilla and Splenda tablets. It's not gourmet, but is enough to help me stick with the programme.) I didn't have any water loss or Induction flu because I went straight from Induction levels. I'm hoping the appetite suppression will come one day soon too! Yesterday I had 2,000+ calories which amazed me! (I said I was greedy....) I've been worrying about the sticks not turning colour and waiting for my hunger to disappear. I still think I've never experienced 'Real Ketosis'. I even started thinking it couldn't be working. The cottage cheese has carbs, after all. But then I realised how silly I was. If I'm losing, who cares about the Ketostix or anything else? I have about 50lbs to lose - the same 50lbs I've lost so often before. But this time will be the last. I now KNOW Low Carbing is the only way for me. I feel so much healthier already. I even need 2 hours less sleep a night. What with that and so little cooking/quicker shopping I'll have time to finish writing my book at this rate! I just want to thank all of you for being so fantastically supportive. I've been lurking here for the past weeks - just because there wasn't time to post AND read so many threads. You're such a wonderful bunch. And a special thank you to Kimmer for being such a beacon on this BB. Others may think her way extreme - but some of us need extreme measures. I'd better stop before you all become disgusted by my gratitude! But, for someone who hasn't seen the scale move in years, a few pounds lost is worthy of celebration.

Marie? From the Playground Marie? My brain fails me at times.. sigh.
She does have a good plan for those of us who've screwed around with low carb. Her's is the only one I've been able to really lose weight on and I love it. |

Congrats Marie! You are right about some people needing extreme measures! Everyone is different - everyone has different motivations - different ideas in their own heads about what they want! But mostly everyone - whether they want to admit it or not - want to be healthier! Not thinner - but healthier. And for most of us here, who haven't met their goals, that means thinner! Got to do what works for you!

NuttyNeeta I remember you well! GREAT to recognise some names - I thought they'd all be changed! Yes, I used to get up to all sorts of mischief in the Playground, but it was neglecting the details of this WOE which got me into trouble again! I'm back in serious mode this time!
Looks like you're doing great things.... |

Oh Dottie! I'm so relieved you're still here! (Can you tell it feels like decades since I was last logged in?) Now I know my questions will all get answered!
Yes, still singing...but we've had lots of family problems since I was last on the BB. I feel very ashamed of myself for letting my weight creep up and for even thinking that LC wouldn't work. Never again! It was when I stalled that I lost the faith before. I'm terrified that, if I go back to Induction, I'll stop losing again. Must have a comatose metabolism even though I run around all day. It's so good to be back. ![]() |

MarieCV- I hope you don't mind me giving you my 2 cents but if you really want your cravings to go away you might have to ditch the cottege cheese. At least for 2-3 days, see what happens.

I have to say I think you may be right Kayjwag. I've been worrying about that, though Dr Stillman allows it in the original plan. I'm following Kimmer's advice that Stillman's was quicker for her even than the M/E fast. She wrote:
Actually I did Stillman's for 3 days to get into ketosis ASAP (I am deathly afraid of being hungry!) The difference between this "experiment" and Stillman's is picking any protein you like ... Stillman's is "lean" only. Then I moved onto Atkins Induction and stayed for 6 months (<20 carbs, no 'treats') and with zero appetitite, I was fine eating relatively few calories. However, if I were going to do it today, I would have stayed on Stillman's the whole time ... easier, less cooking/shopping, faster (shhhh, don't let Kdog41 read this!) The quantities of veggies I was eating wasn't enough to seriously contribute nutritionally ... IMO, of course. The downside for many would be boredom, but I'm not bored at all losing 4-7 pounds a week! This inspired me to try Stillman's, though I LOVE fat and Atkins in all its forms. Not sure whether Kimmer ate cottage cheese on Stillman's though! Could make a big difference, carb and craving wise. |

I don't dare distract myself again this time until I'm more secure about my eating! But are you saying there isn't as much fun these days? I can't believe you guys haven't just been having a looong party for the last couple of years!

Hi MarieCV. Your post was wonderful. I need to do more research on Stillmans as I am not losing on my 'modified' M&E.
Look forward to seeing your progress as you melt away! |

Hey, thanks brilliant100! I've got lots more questions for Kimmer.....now I'm fretting about that cottage cheese! I've never, ever, in my entire life, experienced appetite loss. I've always been envious of those who did. My stix turned purple, but I enjoyed my food just the same and the weight loss was slow as a slug. At least I'm losing now! I do miss the delicious Atkins food I used to make though....Kimmer said she had to force herself to eat. How I'd love to be able to say that!

Golly, Brutie! You've beaten me!
I have to admit I loved that food though....but when I analyse what I loved so much it was mainly the nuts and seeds - so roll on Atkins Maintenance.... |
