Who is Kimmer?

I'm sure several of the new folks like myself wonder who Kimmer is?
People ask her questions constantly. Can you fill me in so I understand why she is a expert on lo carb. I rarely see her writing but I see people writing to her. Is there a story behind Kimmer?

Can I ask you AllieCat0817 what LMAO means? I have really enjoyed the website but some of the people who have been here a while have words and codes that I'm sure I will learn eventually but it makes newbies feel like outsiders until they learn them.

I was sincere about asking the question on Kimmer. I wasn't being smart, and yes, if I need to look it up I will but I thought I might get someone who could give me a short and descriptive answer coming from the group who seems to admire her for her expertise.

Thank you Kimmer, again I wanted to hear from the people on the site that respect your opinions on locarb. I wasn't being smart just trying to learn the workings of the site after two weeks of visiting. I will do as Alliecat stated and look up your posts. I wouldn't say you are a big mouth broad because you help tons of people who ask your advice. I am sure your story is well worth reading I was just taking a short cut asking for the other folks what your story is. As Alliecat says I will look it up myself.

Newgail, don't worry about it! And BTW, I'm way beyond getting my feelings hurt, LOL!

My story is kind of long and I don't like retyping, but I copied this from another thread. Basically I tried low carb (Stillman's) when I was 16 and was hooked:

I have low carbed off and on since I was 16. My first LC experience at 16 was with Stillman's. I lost weight so quickly, I had to stop because I was a teenage welfare mom and had no way to buy new clothes. I didn't have a scale to know how much I lost, but I had been a size 14 and my pants were nearly falling off after 2 weeks.

Still, I was 5'6" and size 12/14 which is a very good size for me (big boned) and my weight stayed for about 3 years. When I was 165 lbs. I read a book "The Last Chance Diet" by Dr. Robert Linn which is liquid protein. I did that for about a week, but the liquid stuff is so horrible (Dr. Linn calls it "the most vile substance this side of Venus") that I began skipping the protein and just drinking diet soda & vitamins (I'm not a water drinker). I lost 67 pounds in 43 days and felt wonderful ... my first "euphoria" experience. I stopped when my fiance invited me to go camping with his family for the weekend. They were Hispanic and his mom was NOT going to understand fasting. (I was 19 then, now I wouldn't care!)

I gradually regain the weight because I was eating more carbs (not candy & chips, but potatoes, pastries, coffee w/ sugar & cream). A coworker was doing Weight Watchers and it looked fun (and organized!) so I tried it. The carbs were too high and I was only losing 1-2 pounds a week. Compared to how I lost previously on low/no carb, this was WAY too slow! I was also hungry constantly because of the high carbs. So, I changed the "exchanges" from bread and fruit to protein and began losing 5-6 pounds a week. I wasn't able to finish all the "exchanges" because of ketosis/loss of appetite. I lost 88 pounds and quit meetings because I felt like a hypocrite when the leader would ask me to share with the group how I lost so much each week.

I gradually regained the weight over 2 years after my little brother died in a horrible hospital accident. I didn't "pig out" but I wasn't careful about choices. My priority wasn't on weight loss. Incidentally, my little brother was Type 1 diabetic. He was 6'1" and 135 pounds, a virtual skeleton. He often refused to inject his insulin, ate like a horse, lost vast amounts of body fat. This is what absolutely convinced me of low carbing. In the absence of insulin (what we try to accomplish by restricting carbs), the body will not hold onto body fat.

During the next 10 years of my marriage I gained 110 pounds. Did my version of LC off and on, always losing 40-50 pounds, but not sticking with it ... especially during stressful times. I had a repeat C-section and suffered serious muscle/nerve damage, which left me unable to walk at one point. I still have residual difficulties, although I look and act normal to everyone (well, I don't know about 'normal', LOL), but I didn't exercise during my weight loss phase.

When I weighed 288 pounds I got worried. I wasn't eating large amounts, just the wrong things and my weight kept creeping up every month. If I didn't do something soon, I'd weigh 300. So I investigated weight loss surgery. I've posted on that several times so you can search if you want to read it. But, bottom line, I'm not a big eater and I wasn't sure the surgery would help me. You can only eat small amounts, but I was already eating small amounts. The idea of surgery doesn't bother me at all, but to know that it would be FINAL and maybe unsuccessful, deterred me from going through with it.

After my divorce (16 year marriage), I was nearing my 40th birthday. I figured I had to decide whether to finally lose and maintain the weight once and for all ... or just accept my size 26, 318 pound body and quit whining about it. Granted, going through a divorce and custody battle does wonders for motivation and loss of appetite, LOL!

My trouble was that I never saw myself as fat. I knew I was larger than I should be, but actually didn't recognize my jeans as being mine when I'd fold them. When the seatbelt in my husband's truck wouldn't fasten, I assumed the belt was faulty. When I couldn't tie my shoes (or bend to put them on), I chalked it up to joint stiffness (never mind that I didn't have arthritis). Even when I realized it was my stomach turning on the stove burners when I'd reach to the cabinets above, I thought my kids were playing around with the burners ... it couldn't be me.

I found this site, Dottie and Fitday. Decided to get serious or forget it -- I never looked back. I tracked my carbs and protein on Fitday, ignored fat and calories and lost rapidly. I'm in a different mindset now then when I was 20 something. Hopefully, the emotional turmoil is gone, also.

And that's it!!!

Hey, she just posted this on another thread:

Hello! Meyer, thank you for pointing out that I may miss many posts. I'm a foster mom to 4 teenage boys and since this is summer vacation I'm lucky if I get check this site twice a week! After all, what's more important ... checking Lowcarbfriends or downloading cheat codes for Halo 2?

1) I stayed at <20 carbs for 7 months and lost 160 pounds, including 11 pounds of water the first day.

2) I have restarted Induction many times over the past 20 years, but when I decided to "lose it or quit whining", I didn't cheat so I didn't need to restart. If you follow Induction as originally written (protein & veggies), you'll lose so quickly your motivation stays high!

3) I didn't worry about calories because I knew I wouldn't be eating much. Keep in mind I'm an experienced water faster so eating "less" doesn't panic me. I also did Stillman's the first 3 days to get into 'real' ketosis ASAP because I don't like being hungry. Mission accomplished!

4) I'll post the link to my Fitday for 3-4 months of Induction menus & food amounts. Most of the meals I had to pick at during the day because I had absolutely no appetite!

5) I felt great, but I did low calorie low carb and reaped the benefits of deep ketosis, which includes tremendous energy. If you're still dragging, it might be that your body is still switching over ... of if you're calories are too high, maybe it's different (the ketosis feeling)? Be sure to take a Centrum type vitamin and really take a look at what you're eating.

Verde, if you want to lose ... seriously lose ... focus on lean protein (not double cheeseburgers for example) and salad type veggies with lower cal dressing (the Italian ones are fabulous!)

You will lose your appetite pretty much (ketosis) and go with that. Don't force yourself to eat, but when you do pick protein bites (not squares of an Atkins bar for example!)

Not even close. That kind of behavior is generally not tolerated around here. It's all about help and support, not tearing each other down.

Yeah! But if you're into that kind of thing.. you can always visit the politics board or the PlayGround on a bad day. They've been pretty well behaved lately. Then again, this could all change in a moments notice!!

Just kidding.

no really.

Oh.. and Kimmer IS a big mouthed broad. Which is why I rarely post here. Can't have 2 ppl competing for that much coveted title, although I AM the Queen.

(and so you know.. i will defend her plan to the end! Its the only one that works for me)

Hi newgail!

I pondered a lot of abbreviations when I was brand new and I still do sometimes. I had a heck of a time with "dh, dd, ds, dsil" etc etc. Some days I insert dang for the "D" and some days i insert dear Well ok usually it is dang for the hubby's (DH) and dear for everyone else but I am a jaded old hag. Somewhere up in the stickies at the top there is a post that explains what all the initials mean but in the mean time just ask.

The important thing is we are all here to cheer each other on in this low carb journey. Woe is "way of eating" and ymmv is your mileage may vary. Those stumped me for days but you will see them a lot.

Chrissy

PS dd = darling or dear daughter, ds = son, dsil is sister in law etc.

Chrissygal - Thanks for the def. of YMMV. I could not figure that out for anything. I never took the time to look for a cheat sheet. Now that I know I feel so stupid. It's funny how some of the abbreviations can stump you, then when you figure it out you think - duhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Hi newGail - I'm old gail :-) Or maybe seasoned gail? I've been around here off and on for a couple years now. Here's a link to internet acroynms- it's not just this board- but almost all boards, people who IM a lot, etc- who use them. Some boards, depending on their topic, may have others that they use (such as the Knot.com- we've got a lot of things that are wedding related that have their own acroynms... one is STD- and it's not the disease :-) ) ahahha

Enjoy and welcome!
