Kimmer, question about fasting
Kimmer - when you do your weekend fast do you notice a difference at the end as in do you feel better or revitalized?
I know most cleansing fast say you need to do it for 10 days to reap benefits so I'm wondering since you've already done a "major" fast are the weekend ones kind of like maintenace? |

I absolutely feel revitalized! It's like day & night, only more so!
A 10 day fast might be necessary for someone who doesn't fast on a regular basis, but then again it depends on what someone wants to accomplish by fasting: Get rid of bloat? You take in 0 carbs so ketosis comes really quick, along with losing a boat load of water! This is the same as what happens during Induction when your liver glycogen is depleted, only 10 times faster. Detoxify? Any rest from eating will allow your body to repair at maximum speed. Each day of the fast allows more rejuvenation ... sometimes astonishingly so! Your body uses about 70% of its energy on food digestion. If you spare your body that chore, it can focus its energy on fixing stuff. Your body is always in repair mode (don't scrapes or cuts begin healing immediately?) Fasting allows more rapid results. Get a Jump Start on Low Carbing? By the end of Day 2 on a water fast you will be in DEEP ketosis ... unless someone 'carbs up' before beginning the fast. You can break the fast by beginning to eat broth, then sauteed veggies, then protein, then fat. So long as you keep your carbs VERY LOW after the fast, you will not regain the weight lost. I love fasting, the serenity, the "me" time ... the very flat stomach! Check out the fasting thread on the Challenge forum. I think it's called "Make It Fast"? Very smart cookies over there! |

Thank Kimmer.
I'm going to fast to detox my body. I've been paying close attention to it lately and it just feel yucky on the inside. I'm reading up on water fasting and the master cleanse also. I'll be starting next Monday, May 3rd. My goal is for 10 days but if I feel go I'll go longer. |

THF, do a search for the thread "30 Day Detox" and you can read the experiences of me and others. There are also very valuable links to fasting sites (fascinating, really, especially the rejuvenation and effect on cancer cells).
Quilted, you'll do fine! You might want to post on the fasting thread on the Challenge forum. Chances are you'll have questions the first couple of days and those gals are smart! Feel free to ask me or The Fasters any questions you have! Enjoy!!!! Last edited by Kimmer : 04-25-2004 at 09:45 PM. |
