May be TMI, but has this happened to you?

When I first got up this morning, I weighed 205...weighed several times to see if it changed, but it didn't. After having about an 8oz cup of coffee, and then a
really good BM, got back on scale, and weighed 206. WHY? What's going on? This happens to me all the time. It was about 45 minutes between weigh-ins.

Yes, and I have no idea why?!?! I used to always run right back and way after a good BM because you feel so much lighter, yaknow? Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

This is the first post I've read this morning and for some reason I am laughing my A$$ off.... I know.....I'm weird.

Seems like the law of displacement would come into play here, but guess not.
This is one reason I don't weigh but once or twice a month. The scale drives me crazy!

LCG, thanks for confirming that this has happened to you, also (misery LOVES company...LOL). Just another way that our body lets us know that it is in charge, I guess.

There's an article I just read saying why we weigh less in the morning. I'll have to find it but those 45 minutes might have made a difference in whatever factors had you weighing less the first time. If I can find it I'll post it.

DAWN & KISMET...always appreciate your comments. Should the first weigh-in of the day be considered the official one? That's the one I always post, so I hope so!

Haha Carole. The mysteries of the scale! I have also weighed first thing in the morning, gone back to bed (on a glorious weekend day) and gotten on the scale an hour or two later and there's a loss. It's such a mystery!

As always, whichever is the lowest number of the day is what I go by. I guess this is why professionals say we should look at trends and not the specific number

yes, and its annoying, but logically I know I can't have increased weight by a pound in 45 minutes without eating anything and after a bathroom visit. I always blame my scale and count the first weigh in number.

I only count the first weigh of the day (unless it is early and I go back to sleep like deedee), but I hop on and off that thing all day. The fluctuations don't bother me though, I like the data (very much a dork here).

Well Arkie, you have piqued my curiosity with this conundrum
so I had to investigate. Unfortunately I come up with nothing. But my best guess is that weight first thing in the morning is less than even an hour later. And you said you had coffee after the first scale visit and even the liquid in some way that is hard to comprehend has something to do with it.

I'm still chuckling. I guess all things "poopy" do that to me.

DEEDEE and MAKRIDA, your comments are so true. I have weighed at 5 In the morning before, gone back to bed till 7 and weighed again to be one to 1 1/2#'s lighter! Our bodies are going to do their own thing, regardless of when we weigh!

The only way that I weigh less (usually) after a first morning weigh is if I go back to sleep. Something about moving around causes weight to go up.

I regularly (UGH!!) wake up at around 3:00 in the morning having to pee, I always weigh myself right after then go back to bed. I do the "offical" weigh in after peeing and with only the undies on at 6:00, I'm usually down a pound or two from my 3:00 weigh in. I also weigh right before bed sometimes and if the scale is 2 pounds heavier (or less) than my morning weigh in I know I had a good day, it's when it goes up 5 pounds that I have a minor heart attack! I wish I could ditch the scale and just go by clothes size!

I am the total odd ball. I lose 4 pounds from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. 6am= 126 and 9pm= 122 no matter how much I eat and drink during the day. I wake up in the morning and I'm swollen and puffy. I wee wee about 17- 25x per day (usually 2x an hour when awake) and all that causes a 4 pound loss from morning to night. I must be some crazy anomaly.

Carly, my dh does that. He will say his weight was a disappointment in the morning. By evening, he will be saying, "look at that! just look! I lost today!"

I must tell you, I am not always pleasant about his good fortune. It drives me a little crazy that he can do that.

If I miss the magic morning moment of weigh-in, I don't dare go near the thing until the next day. It will be lying in wait to surprise me with a bigger number, for sure.

Carole, there's always the possibility the scale needs batteries?

First weigh of the day for me too. I very rarely weigh again and if I do I always see an increase. Don't need that!

Me, too. After a bathroom visit, tho, I am usually either the same or down. But I ALWAYS weigh more after a shower. Again, it's only anecdotal and doesn't bother me. I chalk it up to "water weight" from my hair being wet, but then it doesn't go back down when it's dry either. Stupid body.

Nah, stupid scale!

I weigh more after a shower also. I can weigh right before and right after, and always be up. I'm going to just stick to first weigh in every morning. But, I've gone from 24/26 to 16/18 WP, and still some 18/20WP, so I know something good is happening!

OH, I never weigh myself after a shower! My hair is thick and when wet probably adds weight so if I forget to weigh myself before the shower I just wait until the next morning

After reading y'all comments I just had to try it for myself

5:00 am got up and weighed 199
6:00 after being up an hour weighed again 198.8
6:30 asked myself why I was up so early when I didn't have to be went back to bed and fell asleep.
8:30 back up and weighed again 197.2

Makes a person wonder if they just slept all day and weighed every 2 hours would they be 2# lighter each time

Now the dilemma of which weight to count... I guess since all my other weigh ins are right after waking I'll choose the first

When I was weighing I always noticed the same. First thing in the morning, post-bathroom I was almost always 1-2 pounds heavier than I was an hour or two later, providing I hadn't eaten or drank anything. . That's when I started getting nutty about weighing and quit it cold turkey.

I haven't stopped in these boards in a long time! I this just cracked me up!!!

It has to do with fluids distribution. That's why people are puffy and such first thing. From laying it...how do I say this.....kinda pools in area's. But once you start moving, the fluids in our muscles and such moves too.

Oh how I have missed you girls and the laughs!!!!
