EOD vs 4:3

I am a little confused. It seems easier to keep DD's MWF so there is a schedule, but will the EOD method be more productive? I can do this any way as long as I actually lose. Gotta do it now sisters!

I have only really ever done EOD, so I can't comment, but I feel much more in control when I stick to EOD.

I have done both ways. I lose better with EOD; but I have a strong preference for MWF set schedules. There is a trade off since I lose more slowly; but I have a much better chance of sticking to the set days long term/indefinitely so it works better for my long game.

I had no problem losing steadily with MWF DDs. I didn't actually do 4:3 because I kept a day at "medium," so I only had 3 actual UDs.

I don't think the few extra calories a week were a problem considering the convenience of the regular DDs for me.

Keep in mind that I didn't to the high UDs that most do--mine were only 1400 cal and later 1200 because I need to keep calories limited due to age and medical issues (my 'maintenance' level is only 1,100 daily).

I think excessive UD calories can impede weight loss, but I'm a minority here.

Similarly to Leo - I just refer to my schedule as 4:3 out of convenience but since induction, I've had a weekly schedule of 3 UD, 3 DD and 1 MD.

As I've previously mentioned, I'm a keen kayaker and DDs don't work for me on those days because of the hypothermia protocols (safety issue).

Neither this schedule nor MDs work for quite a number of people (as mentioned above) but they suit my activities and life. Ultimately, that's what each of us needs, something that suits our own lives.

This is what I do since I want SaMW DDs. Thursday is my MD since I don't eat until around 7:30pm so it's usually hard to make than an UD.

I'm doing 4:3, and it's working for me, but I haven't been doing it that long. I was doing 5:2 (which was also working). I don't mind very slow weight loss. I also work out a lot and eat LC, so I don't know if that is also helping my cause.

I have a strong preference for fixed, MWF DDs, so I thought I would try it and go with it as long as it works.

YMMV

Try each way for a month or so. See which works best for your metabolism.

I tried fixed DDs. It stalled my weight loss for three weeks or so. BUT it works great for other people.

Healthy weight loss and long term maintenance is all about learning about yourself and what your body needs.

So, experiment!

I did EOD for induction, but I was miserable just thinking about doing another 4 DD week. So I do T TR Sun DDs. I'm losing, but would think I would lose faster on EOD. But I feel that I can stick to the plan better, like others have said, having set DDs. I may eventually try EOD when loss slows, but for now, this is working!

I did JUDDD for quite a while a few years ago. It set off some less-than-ideal food reactions in my brain. I introduced things back in my diet that I hadn't eaten in years because I "could" and felt like I deserved it after restricting so much the day before. I've tried multiple times to come back to EOD rotations, but those binge-y tendencies come back and I quit.

Recently I have cleaned my diet back up and have started having 2 DDs per week for the health benefits. I am trying hard not to let those old feelings take back over, but last night I ate too much chocolate because I didn't get the good dinner I had planned and today is a DD.

I feel fine today just like I knew I would, but I have to get a handle on those impulses.

I think 4:3 might actually work better for me. I find that I overeat more on UDs when I'm doing eod. It's a personal problem , and not one that everyone experiences. I have tried to stick to eod and keep failing at it, so I am adopting 4:3, which may be and will probably be the majority of the time, MWF, but sometimes not. I also reserve the right to do eod when I feel inclined. Everyone's different.

With EOD you're getting 14 DDs and 14 UDs in 4 weeks;
with 4:3 you're getting 12 DD and 16 UDs in 4 weeks.

If you look at it mathematically, that would only be maybe an additional 2000 or 3000 calories in (almost) a whole month! Seems like it shouldn't cause a stall or derail your efforts, right? But everybody's different...works for some, not for others.

I started out 8 weeks ago with a fixed rotation plan; however, I switch back and forth. Sometimes I'm really not hungry on the 2nd UD, so I just do a DD and mess up the whole upcoming week ; other times I have made or bought something special and didn't get to enjoy it or fit it in with my calories, so I have a 2nd UD.

I thought having set DDs would be easier with my work schedule, especially if I felt cranky or shaky, but I've been feeling pretty good so I just mix it up any way that works from week to week.

Since I just started JUDDD back up a month ago, I am strictly doing EOD. This is to get a routine going, since last time weekends were a problem for me. Maybe in the future, I might change it, but for now it's EOD.

EOD would always work best for me simply because overall, it's fewer calories for the week. i've come to think of it as saving here, saving there. once i have 3500 calories saved, i lose a pound. i keep meticulous records of calories, and over and over this has proven itself to me. everyone is different, but for my body, it works.

if you're not in a hurry, do what fits your schedule. JUDDD is the best way to live.

It isn't more calories if you do the math properly. on EOD you have four up days every other week. So you add your 4 up day and 3 down day weekly calories, then your 3 up day, 4 down day weekly calories together, then avg the 2. Thats the total amt of calories you would eat on the 4:3 weekly basis.

Interesting discussion!

4:3 would work a lot better for me than rotations, too, but I see that instead of doing 2000/500 as I would on rotations, I would actually need to do 1800/500 to make it an equivalent amount of calories over the two weeks! It's all good! Whatever works for you the best!

I posted this on 8/7 and I have continued to have 3 (and sometimes only 2) DDs per week and have averaged just over a pound per week loss.

I am finding it much easier than EOD because I can have a set workout schedule. I tell myself I MUST have 2 DDs and if I feel like a third I'll do it. It seems to be taking the pressure off (all in my head, no one even knows but me).

I'll ride it as long as it lasts.
