can we talk pickles on DD?

My all time favorite snack! I can easily eat 2 or 3 a day. Vlasic zesty dill spears say 0 calories per serving, which is 2/3 of a spear. My calorie counter says 0 calories per spear. Just wondering y'alls opinion on how to count them.

I wouldn't go crazy with counting them unless you eat the whole jar LOL I would be more concerned with the sodium and make sure you drink extra water. I love pickles and they are a great idea on a DD

I don't usually have a problem with sodium. Salty has always been my snack of choice, I'm not big on sweets. This is only my 2nd down day but I'm finding that the crunch of a pickle and the time it takes to chew and eat one is really helping me get past the "I gotta have something to eat right now!"

Well, if they are really crunchy then you will be burning calories while eating them and they will end up being negative calories I say munch away!

This is a timely thread, as I just got my issue of "Cooking Light" and there's a whole section of pickle recipes. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone wants to make their own and see just how many calories there are. I don't cook, so I'm not sure why I got this subscription (well, it was a fundraiser for my daughter's school, so I just picked several magazines).

I rarely have pickles, but I count them when I do. If I have more than one tiny gherkin, I count 5 calories. If it's just one (they're smaller than my pinky) and the package says zero calories, I don't count it.

Hmm think I'll count on DD and not worry about them on UD all the while keeping them in mind as a potential problem if any UD issues arise.

According to packaging guidelines (laws? ) a serving under 4 calories can be labeled as "zero". (Ever notice how most calorie counts end in multiples of 5...not "23" calories but 20 or 25? The numbers get rounded up or down.)

I often check "zero calorie" foods by putting in multiple servings in an online calorie tracker--they are more precise and only round up fractions (.5 calorie=0, .6 calorie=1).

For example, 1/2 teaspoon of vinegar=0 calories but 2 tablespoons=6 calories. So that tells me 1/2 teaspoon=1/2 calorie. Not significant by itself but if something had 4 calories labeled as 0 and I used 10 servings in a recipe, I might want to know about those 40 calories!

This is a favorite dd snack for me! Bubbies are my favorite - they are so yummy! I weighed mine once and it was 8 calories so now I don't worry about it.
