I told myself "no" today - a little introspective.

I do most of my grocery shopping on Mondays.
I went to walmart this morning and my mind was on half off easter candy!
I know, right?
But I got there and the candy isle was packed with women loading their carts. I don't mean a couple of cadbury eggs, and stuff, I mean LOADED up. 10, 20 bags of candy. Emptying the bins.
I stopped myself and asked "why"? Why would I want to be in that isle?
I don't particularly like candy. I have a couple of good organic dark chocolate bars in the fridge for emergency chocolate lol.
I can have fruit.
Why would I join the mob and load up on candy that I don't want/need, that DH doesn't need, that son would eat "because it's there" but doesn't need?
So I said "no".
I didn't have my customary peeps and cadbury egg this year because I went primal/paleo and neither would really allow that
On juddd, the wonderful thing is that no food is off limits, but reality is I know my own limits, and it's about time I put them to use for me instead of as an excuse
Anyway, that's my personal introspective rambling today!

That's a good ramble.

Someone here has a tag in their signature area (I don't remember who or I would happily give them credit):

JUDDD doesn't care where your calories come from, but your body probably does.

That makes so much sense. I think we (I, for sure, I probably shouldn't speak for others) get so caught up (at first) in the "I can have anything" aspect of JUDDD that we lose sight of the good health that drove us to improve our eating in the first place.

It was one of the things that made me leave JUDDD the first time. I reintroduced things into my diet that I just flat HAD NOT eaten in probably two years. It wasn't JUDDD's fault though.

They are words to live by whether you are talking about stretch pants or jelly beans: Just because you *can* doesn't mean you *should*.

Oh Dottie, I could not have said it better!!! I only bought one piece of candy for each of us and I bought the kind I know that person would eat.. No waste and no left overs.. Yes years ago I would have been one of those ladies buying the discounted candy... But not any more.. I have learned to enjoy one favorite piece...

Thanks Ladies
Also, the fresh strawberries smell amazing today!
I found a paleo recipe for gummy candy using gelatin, fresh fruit and lemon juice. I think I'll make a batch tomorrow, though it would be really low-cal and a good option for a DD for sure

I am not putting anyone down that can have candy in their home and not binge on it. I know me, and I can't lol.
And it's worse because I don't really have a sweet tooth, so I don't know why I binge if it's there, you know?
So this post was about me, not anyone else that can handle it

You were so smart to get your head in the right place, Dottie! And you're so right, why would you want to be in that aisle, with those women mindlessly loading up. Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's good for you. WTG!

What a great post, Dottie! Congrats on your fortitude.

I had half a small bag of peanut M&Ms for my Easter candy treat and was satisfied with that. Surprised myself!

I totally, utterly 88% (or higher) organic dark chocolate!!!

(Once I took the step to the high-percentage dark side, mere peeps became cloyingly sweeeeeeet.)

Congratulations, Dottie, for looking yourself in the eye and buying mindfully!

Good job, Dottie! I personally do eat candy, but usually only in single serving amounts. If I buy a bag of anything, I eat too much. I would never even think of buying bags and bags of candy--dirt cheap or not.

Big bags of anything (other than celery) are a danger for me. I like a good sale, but not on something I will regret later. I'd rather continue finding cute size 2P skirts 75% off than bags of candy. I put 4 Cadbury eggs in the freezer over the weekend to make those delicious looking crossiants some day. No time soon, but Cadbury eggs will be long gone soon and I made the mistake of showing that receipy to DW

There was an enormous bag of peanut M&Ms in the Easter "clearance" aisle at the grocery tonight. I really was tempted...but as everyone that knows me can attest, it wasn't in my maintenance goal's best interest to buy it.

I didn't.

I really, really, wanted to, though!

Good for you, Dottie!!!

I loved your post....it was just what I needed to read...

Yeah candy doesn't fit in my lifelong maintenance goal.......I too was at walmart and saw the candy riot ...many of the most vigorous shoppers were also in need of a healthy weight....one seriously overweight woman in a scooter stood up and piled candy into the basket of her scooter....broke my heart....I know sugar addicts 'cause I am one..recovering but an addicts an addict
