JUDDD for men...

Browsing this forum, I've noticed mostly women using JUDDD....are their men on here that have experienced success using JUDDD?

We have had several men over the years and many DHs JUDDD along with us. The men usually have great success. Usually faster losses than the ladies.

As Carly said, we have JUDDDing gentlemen. And most of them seem to thrive, in a losing kind of way, on JUDDD/IF.

A lot of us have DHs who are losing/have lost...but do not want to join the online party. Mine lost 30 pounds (since regained when he got back on the over-eaters track ).

Thanks for the responses. I did Atkins about ten years ago and lost 80 lbs but put it all back on over the last 9 years unfortunately. Started up again on Atkins the beginning of March and have dropped 25lbs since then, but I just can't do it long term. I can surely do it to get down to remotely healthy BMI again, but no way I could continue it long term. Looking for an alternative. I'm very good at appetite suppression when I want to be, so this seems like a natural fit. Any users I could search to read about that you ladies know to be men to read about their experiences with JUDDD? I'm 34, 6'2, currently 283. Where do I get my DD/UD numbers? Do you alter your DD/UD numbers weekly when you weigh in to coincide with your current weight? I obviously don't own the book and need to download to my Kindle and read if I choose this WOE, but if anyone has time I'd appreciate the responses.

Hi Ab

It's definitely male friendly, and the results usually outstrip those seen by the Ladies on here.

Good luck, if you need to ask anything, this is a friendly and well informed forum..

ab_54! JUDDD seems to be a great fit for guys. You've already heard from Kettleboy. Planelman will chime in too, I'll bet. FrostyBeav hasn't been around much lately (miss him) and I think decided to do another plan, but he was pretty active here for awhile. I hope you'll give it a try and post with us.

I learned about JUDDD months ago but didn't think I should try it because it seemed much more advantageous to men (this was a stupid reason, it doesn't actually matter if I lose as fast as a guy).

My husband does JUDDD and tells everybody about it. He's 61 and has achieved his high school weight. From the beginning he has done 5:2 where down days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He loves the freedom of up days on the weekends. He has only ever counted calories on the DDs. During the weight loss phase he ate 600 calories on DDs.

Now he is maintaining with 1,200 calorie DDs. We keep the DD menus the same every week. For breakfast he has cheerios with a banana and unsweetened almond milk. His lunch is a can of various Progresso soups and about 60 calories of rice crackers. We found one at Trader Joe's that gives him 17 crackers for 60 calories. He takes 2 snacks to work. One is 1/4 cup of cashews and the other is 1/8 cup of cashews mixed in nonfat vanilla yogurt. For dinner he has 4 oz. of chicken, broccoli and a sliced roma tomato. He usually has a glass of wine with his dinner.

I think you'll love it. If you go to Dr. Johnson's website and read up on all the infomation about the diet, in my opinion you don't need the book.

The website covers all the most important info (ignore the sales pitch for Resveratrol....although some of us believe we see better results when taking it).

I don't really remember how much detail Dr J goes into on the website, but when he was first developing JUDDD as a concept a lot to most of his test subjects were male. The male body does seem to be designed for alternate day eating and staying healthy while losing weight.

Oh, usually we stick with DD/UD numbers that are working until we hit a stall that cannot be explained by over- or under-eating. THEN we adjust calories down. I road 500/1500 down 35 pounds. Then stalled and adjusted down to 400ish/1400ish the rest of the way to goal. JUDDD is very accommodating that way.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

Thanks again. According to the site mentioned, I get my up day calories as 3040/Down Day as 608. Could that be correct. 3k seems much too high. I did 20% weight loss and little to no exercise as I'm lucky to get an hr on the elliptical a week and then just lawn mowing and trimming.

The site tends to reset away from pounds and inches. Which can cause some results. Make sure you are using the correct units of measure.

Also, unless you are an athlete, it is probably best to select 'no exercise' at first. That part of the algorithm seems a wee bit skewed.

I just plugged in your information and I got 3054/611. It seems like a lot, but the average of those two days is 1832. That's why JUDDD is magic!

p.s. I'm another one who lost well on low carb but couldn't maintain it. I've been on JUDDD since July 2012, with a couple short breaks here and there. I think you'll love it and do really well.

How in the world do you get to 3k calories without eating junk? What a typical menu even look like for 3k calories that's in the healthy range?

Adding fats (avocado, olive oil, macadamia oil, mayonnaise, butter, coconut oil, etc); using fattier cuts of meat (say 80% lean ground beef instead of 90-96% lean).

Just because I think it would be fun to have this many calories, I plugged some things into my calorie tracker program. Here's a menu I would consider fairly healthy, although you may have other dietary goals such as lower carb, etc.

Breakfast:
3 eggs scrambled with 1/4 cup shredded cheese (260)
1/2 cup oatmeal with 2 tsp brown sugar (185)
1 cup blueberries (83)
1 cup 1% milk (110)

Lunch:
La bou chicken caesar salad with dressing and a blueberry bran muffin (1201)

Snack:
Strawberry greek yogurt and 1 oz. almonds (304)

Dinner:
6 oz salmon (420)
1 cup brown rice (218)
1 cup mixed veggies (60)
2 tsp butter on the veggies and rice (61)
skinny cow low fat ice cream sandwich for dessert (150)

Total: 3052 calories, 310 carbs, 145 g. fat, 170 g. protein, 33 g. fiber

In April of 2012 when we started, my DH lost 40 pounds in less than 3 months on JUDDD. The weight literally flew off of him. He didn't always count up days and his DD's weren't horribly low either. He states it is simply the best plan out there. NO QUESTION. Since on JUDDD calories are all you count, he could easily incorporate his beloved ADULT beverages in daily if he chose. He loves that flexibility!

In New Zealand, I had the best full/heavy whipping cream and the biggest, most flavorful macadamia nuts I have ever tasted! (I think I could live on coffee, really good HWC, Mac nuts, and avocado)

The first time we were in New Zealand we spent a month touring the country. We had an ice cream break every afternoon. Their ice cream is pure cream, no additives. At that time it was also very inexpensive due to the exchange rate. We still get there quite often and the first thing hubby has to have is one of their cones. Nothing richer and better.

It's a guy thing, Carly. We'd have to be 7" and very active to be able to hang with 3000 calories.

On Saturday I walked 8 miles, 18,880 steps. I burned 1,975 calories in the full 24 hour day. I guess I can't hang with the big boys

That's above RMR, right? To burn that many calories would be impossible, I think. Your RMR is probably about 1400-1500, so that still is quite impressive, and 8 miles!!!

Yes, that is above RMR. With very little activity- just walking around minimally- say 5,500 steps I burn just under 1,600 for a full 24 hour period, which luckily usually involves sleeping for 6-8 hours. I love my Fitbit. I can really see how it benefits me to be active.

Actually if I was doing EOD rotations I would change this to replace some of the fat with protein on an UD since DD's would likely be low on the protein at 600 calories. My target for protein is around 155g a day so I would make sure my average over a rotation ended up around there.

Thanks again, everyone, for all of the information. I'm definitely going this route. I'm just trying to determine when and the best way to transition from LC to JUDDD. Anyone have experience with the best way to go about that? I'm guessing jumping off the ledge two feet at one time is just about it lol.
