DD coldness

Today is the first day since my re-start that I am absolutely freezing.

The thermometer in the house says it's 73 but I feel like it's in the 30's! I'm bundled up in blankets and had DH make a fire in the wood burning stove to get me warm.

There used to be some threads about this but I couldn't find them.

We have not talked about it in a while.

Anyone else experiencing the DD coldness? I think it's supposed to be a good sign, right? Brrrrrrrrrrr.....

I am now freezing All. The. Time.
DD shivers are absolutely the only thing about JUDDD that I dislike.
It really stinks to be freezing on UD as well and I'd say it's been over a year that I'm freezing on both days. Ironically around the time I was nearing goal. Not the goal weight gift I was hoping for. I really never wore short sleeves last summer and wore stockings every day to work.

I still get cold on DDs, during the summer and winter, but not when I'm actually outside in the heat on a summer day. I still wear summer clothes in the summer, and I don't wear stockings unless I'm wearing boots with a dress or skirt, summer or winter. I use my ceramic heater at work year round now.

Have any of you Googled low calorie consumption and feeling cold?

I've never experienced it, but I live where we are warm almost all of the time and there is no dampness.

I HATE to be cold. I practically come to a standstill so am thankful daily for my warmth here.

This is the first time I am experiencing cold as well. In all my time doing JUDDD last year I never ONCE felt cold. Now I'm cold every day, UD or DD. Which is so totally weird. I am always running hot. Always. I usually have 2 fans blowing on my at night while I sleep. I wear flip flops in winter. I have always been hot natured. So this is very strange to me. But, hey I'm about to face 115 degree humid Texas summers so I welcome this side effect!

Seabreezes: I took your advice and googled calorie restriction and feeling cold. There's a lot out there!

Here is one quote:

Calorie Conservation

If you quickly reduce your caloric intake, the body often responds negatively by going into conservation mode. As a result, instead of using stored calories to keep you warm as it would under normal circumstances, your body will start to ration them off for more vital needs. Severe calorie restriction will leave you more susceptible to this energy conservation, according to Columbia Health.

Another one talked about "Lost Fat Layer".

I don't think I've lost enough fat to qualify for that one!

Another theory is that during the weight loss process, feeling cold is a sign of a slowing metabolism. Gosh! I hope that's not true. But maybe it goes along with calorie conservation.

Eat Less, Feel Cold, But Live Longer? Probably, Say Calorie Restriction Researchers

Fontana says reduced temperature is a key to longer lifespan in animals: research shows that it is "consistently true that those with lower core body temperatures live longer", he explained.

Fontana and colleagues referred to evidence from another unrelated study, the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging, that found men with lower core body temperatures lived significantly longer than men with higher body temperatures. The reason for the lower body temperature was probably genetic, they note.

This strengthens the argument that body temperature predicts longevity in humans too, says Fontana.

That last article talked about CRONies (Calorie Restriction Optimum Nutrition) core body temperatures became lower as they practiced CR.

They tested lean athletes and people who ate more calories but were lean, and they didn't have lower core temperatures.

Very interesting stuff.

Somewhere a long time ago I read that feeling cold during weight loss is a sign that white adipose tissue is being burned away. that means your fat is disappearing. If I find where I read that, I'll post it.

Hello I'm way past meno and still have hot flashes. Down day chill just kind of balances me out.

This brings up something I've wondered about, are hot flashes intensified by weight loss? I had not had one in two years when I started low carbing. They came back when I started losing weight and have never stopped. Going on two years.

I'm right with ya on this... I'm pretty much freezing All The Time, DD or UD... Except for those middle of the night sweating to death moments. It can be 80+ outside, but unless the sun is beating down on me constantly, I'm still prepared to be cold. The slightest breeze... I'm always carrying a "just in case" sweater... And forget short sleeves if I'm inside with Air Conditioning!

I experienced being hot all of the time when I was heavy. Part of it was the beginning of peri-meno, but I believe it was due, in large part, to the excess 70 lbs I was lugging around. It was embarrassing to always be red faced and sweating lol. I am grateful that I'm cold sometimes now, even if it is a little unpleasant.

Exactly this. I currently have my heater going under my desk and I'm wearing a long sleeved shirt, jeans, and a jacket. I live in California for goodness sake!

When I was on HHCG, I was absolutely freezing for the 3 weeks in P1 which allows no fat!

Finally started to warm up in P2 when I included a lot of fat in the diet.

It was the consensus of opinion that the body was losing fat.....so each time I was freezing, I had a big smile on my face.....and a big fleecy bathrobe on, and that was in the summer!!!

My body tempurate has been 98.1 at my last 2 MD visits.

The nurse said "No wonder you are cold all the time."

Has anyone noticed that even though they are freezing, their body is hot to the touch? A guy I was dating complained of this. Then I realized my body was hot to my hands... But I still "felt" cold. Does this make sense? Any thoughts?

Have you taken your temperature? When I have a fever, I'm hot to the touch, but feel absolutely frozen. You may just run hotter than you think.

Today's another DD and I'm not cold yet. Probably because I've been running around doing a million things to get ready for my trip.

I wonder if exercise forces the body to use (stored) calories on DDs? I know when I exert myself--either cleaning house or walking outside, etc., I quickly warm up on DDs. At least while I'm active and for a little bit beyond.

My temperature has always been lower than norm. About 97. But I've never taken it on a DD, maybe I'll have to check
