Yikes.
I am VERY interested. Please send reports!

Likewise think it's an interesting thing to do and something that is going to require holding your nerve. I know some people stabilise quite quickly and find their TDEE and for others, it seems to take a while longer to establish their sweet spot.

Not everyone needs to do it as slowly as I do while reverse dieting but...I do favour adding kcals back in in moderate amounts of 50-100kcal blocks (of appropriate macronutrients from sources that are least likely to sabotage you, your emotions or metabolism) and then assessing that before adding more back in.

Of course, I say this from the position of someone who is fiddling with her goal weight, body recomposition etc. - I'd like to think that me of WLM would have listened but I know how frustrating and overwhelming this gets and the body slamming urge to see some useful change.

I would be fascinated to have experience on this board to verify the value of having this technique so that we can tell others about it and point to you as useful examples.

Thanks for your thoughts, as always. You continue to be excellent teachers.
.I'm on day 2. Will check in every week or so. I've been back to heavy-ish lifting for about six weeks and am really hoping to see shoulders and arms again. And a metabolism.

3/24 151.2 1525 calories/77g protein
3/25 150.2 1429/95
3/26 150.4 1670/68
3/27 150.6 1491/108
3/28 150.2

So, while my weight isn't going down exactly, my bounces are pretty much non-existant - so far. I was as low as 144.8 last week, so while I'm not bouncing right now, I'm certainly higher than my comfort zone (144-146).

I agree with SS, that slowly introducing more calories is probably wiser and healthier, but I tend to just jump right in, and did so knowing my weight was already inflated. It's also how I started JUDDD, coming from Atkins--just jumped right into the carbs and didn't look back.
I thought I'd update as I seem to be doing really well right now staying between BMR and TDEE.

3/24 151.2 1525 calories/77g protein
3/25 150.2 1429/95
3/26 150.4 1670/68
3/27 150.6 1491/108
3/28 150.2 1410/118 (first day without TOM in 38 days!)
3/29 148.2 1616/62
3/30 147.8 1711/80
3/31 147.4

I've been sticking to a 10 hour window, eating mainly good sources of protein with veggies and fruits, but have also had restaurant meals (read: sodium) and cocktails and one of my favorite bagels with cream cheese. This just "might" work out to be something I could do long term. If and when I'm able to add HIIT or weights, I could really see being able to eat 2000 calories per day and maintain.

Kristin, I totally get what you mean about reducing size and yet being more muffin-y. That's exactly how I feel!

Was wondering if your menus also tend to be lower in fat. I'm very impressed with your success on this plan. I've been reading a lot of books lately with tips from successful maintainers and there is often a thread of low fat. What do you estimate your fat intake to be? (Of course, the cream cheese on your favorite bagel doesn't count.)

I don't track fat (my tracker does automatically, so I have the numbers). I don't know what's "low fat" or "high fat" in terms of grams, but here's how many grams I've consumed since I switched to TDEE.

3/24 - 42
3/25 - 54
3/26 - 62
3/27 - 46
3/28 - 42
3/29 - 38
3/30 - 61

That averages roughly 50 grams of fat per day. I often choose NF Greek yogurt or lower fat cheeses, just because they're lower in calories and often have the same or higher protein content for the amount of calories.

Thanks. When compared to my typical UDs that I track, it looks like your fat is lower. I've followed your example and started eating nonfat Oikos plain yogurt and am finding some other selections lower in fat which helps the calorie count. In the next couple of weeks I should be able to tell if it makes a difference.

Right back atcha, Christina!!!

It's DD #1 after just over a month off. I had a split second of "Oh no!" feeling when I woke up this morning, but that quickly passed. I'm so ready to get this ball rolling again. I'm proud of myself that I didn't count calories even once during my break, even though I was curious a couple of times.

Weigh in this morning was 194.0. So I've been bouncing gently around that weight for about 2 weeks, and eating a VERY generous amount of calories. I haven't counted, but I'm pretty sure I've been between 2500 and 3000 most days, if not more. I've been eating plenty of fat and protein. So I hope my metabolism has settled in at some higher maintenance numbers, and restricting a bit will help me lose again.

I'm going to try 500/2200-2500 to start with and see what happens for 2-4 weeks. That's 1350 - 1500 daily average, still well below my TDEE. I think I'll feel much less restricted at this level too.

I've been checking out some local community center fitness facilities to see where I can have access to some heavier weights and machines, without paying an arm and a leg for a gym membership. I think I have some good, economical options, and there's always Planet Fitness if I need to go there. I'm not wild about what I've heard about their vibe/philosophy, but if I can just go a couple of times a week and work out 30 minutes or so, it shouldn't be that bad. Plus I've never been there myself, and maybe I'll love it.

My New Rules of Lifting is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to getting started with that.

Here goes!

ETA: And in the interest of a fresh re-start, I've updated my stats.

wow

I am in awe of your courage and so interested as to the results.

I really do think this will work for you and I so do want it to!

I will be reading your posts carefully.

I probably will never do weights again, but even so this could be the answer for lots of us trying to get to maintenance without feeling always deprived of eating to normal fullness most days. Very exciting.

Good on girl!!

How is it going Carol and Chris?

I go to Crunch. It's only $9.95 a month after the sign up fee, which wasn't much.

Sounds great, LCG!! You haven't really gained that much considering no DDs and no counting for a solid month! I am a little envious too. I wish you lived closer by me, and we could go to the gym together. I have access to a gym at work, but really would like a buddy.

Thank you, you guys! It was a great DD today. I'm so pleased it went well, and I wasn't suffering at all. In fact, other than my coffee/hwc, I didn't have anything at all until 7pm and could've gone longer. I got 58 g of protein too, so not too shabby. I did have a couple of minute or so spells of slight dizziness, just sitting watching TV, and one driving home (a little scary but I was literally a couple of blocks from home, thank goodness) but they passed quickly. I had those when I started the first time too, so it'll pass.

Skypeing fitness buddies, huh? We could start a new trend! We don't have Crunch here - sounds like a northeast place? I'm going to check out a local community center gym tomorrow if I have time. I called today and they have weights, including barbells and benches, so it might be an option. It's $15 per quarter fee, so it would be great if they really have what I need there. My city also has an amazing fitness center and it's from $22 - $30 a month, depending on the length of the pass you buy. I could do that.

Gyms in the US sound so affordable I like the idea of Skype-ing during activity altho' I'd spend a lot of time with water being splashed over the screen or nothing but the sound of waves.

Well done on your first DD in your move back to JUDDD, LCG/Carol.

I'm looking forward to watching you progress through the NROLfW. I've just realised that your updated stats still reflect that you've lost an entire Flutter or Carly and almost a Kissa/Cindy (there's a pound or so in it). How much of a breeze will progressive weight lifting be for you if you find a place with the appropriate equipment?

I had a great first DD back too. My first meal was at 2, and I had very little hunger all day. I got on the scale this morning too, and was down 2.2 lbs. I'm also not planning on weighing in every day, but was just curious!
