Carol, you're still firmly in Onederland.

That much of a gain over that time frame? I suspect your body is cycling through a mass of changes (hormonally) as well as coping with the exercise (which it likes) and adjusting to your transformation in weight (and, even with a gain, it's so far from where you started and back when you were desperate to be in the 250s after starting JUDDD). Plus, some of that may well be inflammation from the seasonal allergies you mentioned.

You've faced down the scale and that was important so that you could know where you are, right now.

Look at yourself now from where and when you started - there's no mere scale number that can take that justifiable self-pride away from you.

Carol - so proud of you for not only "facing the demon" but being willing to post about it and help others. way to go!

I do think that part of this is exercise-related (added muscle, muscles retaining water, etc.) and part of it is the volume of not having every other day fasting.

But mostly, I just want to send big and for having come so far, for being in this for the long haul, and being wise enough to recognize a needed (and deserved) break. It's stressful on mind and body, doing this weight loss thing long term. You've got this!

Dear Carol,

I know how hard it was to get on that scale and see a number you don't like, but......you have not given up and that is the main thing! You stated lots of good reasons for the higher weights. All valid....You are also brave!

The allergies are the worst! I suffer very badly while in CA. I don't have them here. When feeling miserable it is hard to not eat the things you really like. Hopefully your meds will kick in and you will feel better. That will help.

Hugs are the best thing I can give you.

We are all here for you and KNOW you will get to where you want to be.

Carol, I'm so glad that you're looking at everything in such a positive light. Not that I would expect anything different from you, as it is exactly the way you approach everything (that I see). I applaud you for taking the break that you so needed and deserved, and also for knowing that it's only going to help in the long run--whether or not a few lbs heavier at the moment.

Carol, Just think of it as a mini-bulk you went through to add some muscle, and now you begin your cut. When you get back to the 170's you will most definitely get there with an overall lower BF %. And sticking to a plan and WOE you will get there in no time I'm sure. Just keep up the exercise and maintain your current strength during the cut! You don't want to lose the good that you have gained during this time. We all know you will succeed because you already have!

Congrats on your zenlike attitude! That really is half the battle with weight control. What you've just experienced is something we all face: everybody sees a disturbing gain at some point. We gain. We deny. We cower. But finally we work our way back to the scale and face the music.

And then, if we can, we get back in weight loss mode and keep on going. This is a small gain in percentage terms and I'm sure it will come off quickly. You've learned some things about yourself and you didn't give up. You'll do fine.

(And like the others, I think the muscle gain is probably well worth a few pounds. It will stand you in good stead as you hit the last stage of your weight loss.)

You're a terrific inspiration and stalwart supporter to everyone on this board. It's a privilege to share this journey with you.

Yep, I think you've added pounds of MUSCLE with all those work outs and will look even leaner (insert sexy "grrrrr!!!" face here) when you get back down to your last weight! I trust your tape measure & clothing way more than the evil scale, so I'm sure your assessment is more than correct. I DEFINATELY think doing what you're doing is way, way, WAY better than trying to ignore the mental fatigue and risk throwing in the towel. You are incredible and amazing miss thing!!!!!!! My favorite part of your post, Carol, is about liking the way you look in the mirror!
Do you have any idea how awesome that is?
I am sure I have your words mixed up a bit but I am not going to go back and re-read. I am just going to remember the way my heart leapt a little while reading that!
At my lowest weight and in my much younger years I have never ever said those words. You are such an hero and inspiration to me.
Your generous sharing of thoughts and plans and reasoning and results and peace and calm and resolve are such a blessing.
I am so happy you are 'in my life'.
I am so happy that you didn't leave the forum to take your break. You let us come along and learn with you.
Thank you for everything.

I am so a member of the mutual admiration (of Carol) society!!!

As others have noted, your attitude and perseverance is amazing.

I am in total agreement with your assessment of your outcome at this point. After all, who knows your body better than you?

I like this quote: "It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its success." You have that covered sweet budd.

Just one more quote that touches my heart because it can be applied to each one of us: "We can do anything we want as long as we stick to it long enough." Helen Keller said this, and imagine the obstacles and disadvantages she faced.

I look forward to walking along the rest of this journey with you Carol, and can only hope to be as supportative!

I honestly don't know what more to say other than that what all the JBs have said, is so true about you. You are indeed lovely inside as well as outside. While this added wgt may seem a lot but when I think of it, I put on 9-10 lbs in each of my 3 week vacation (twice last year!) and I assure you there was no muscle building involved. I'd rather have the muscle gain anytime. I truly do believe that the break from the routine helps the body recover and gear up to go again. We are here to support you and learn from you as always! Just love your "can do" attitude

Carol, I love your attitude. Isn't it really all about that? As long as we're doing what feels right, it's a good and positive thing. Binging-dieting-binging-dieting never did! Your journey is a good example for me to see a better way of handling burnout and I get a sort of 'safety net' feeling when I read your posts ("hmm, maybe I can do that if/when it happens"). Changing food plans sure beats "Well, I've fallen off my diet so now I can eat, eat, eat", which is what my past looks like. I'm glad to hear you're doing so well. It gives me hope.

I can't even begin to express to all of you what your support means to me! I just feel so blessed to be a part of this wonderful group of people.

I really did hesitate to make this thread and share my struggles. It's way more fun to post when you're losing well and succeeding, but I've gained so much knowledge and inspiration from watching others deal with roadblocks, that I really felt like I needed to do this, just to show others that the road isn't always straight, but how important I think it is not to just get off the road. Maybe take a side road - you never know where it might take you! If I've helped even one person reading or lurking, that makes it all worth it to me.

And now, I just can't help myself. I wasn't going to respond to each of you, but you're all so awesome in your support, I'm going to. Indulge me, as you always do!

Slow. I really appreciate this perspective, and I think you must be right about what my body is going through. I do need to appreciate what it's doing for me, what I have put it through both being heavy, and then traumatizing it losing all that weight. Poor old girl, she's doing her best for me! Dawn! Watching you shrink down to your goal and further has really been one of my inspirations, and you continue to inspire me, trying new things and keeping what works and discarding what doesn't.

Christina! I sure hope exercise is a part of all this, and I'm counting on it, and good point about the added volume of ED eating instead of EOD! I'm glad to have another "shake-it-up" buddy with me. We've both done amazing things, and I know that our bodies are going to regroup and say "Okay, I'm ready again." When they are ready!

Thank you sweet Seabreezes! I'm so glad you're back with us. Those hugs are so appreciated. I love that we are all here for each other, and I feel so much all of your support.

I, for one, am proud of you!
Gracie! That means so much to hear. Gosh, I never thought I could inspire anyone. Thank you!

Cindy! That's so funny to hear about my "positivity". I always think "if these people knew me IRL, they might not see me that way. You all make me better!

You don't want to lose the good that you have gained during this time. We all know you will succeed because you already have!
Mike! This is EXACTLY how I've been trying to look at it. I'm keeping your sentence "When you get back to the 170's you will most definitely get there with an overall lower BF%" in the forefront of my mind and visualizations. You've expressed that perfectly for me. And no, I ain't giving up on this exercise anytime soon!

Locarbarella! I most certainly have learned a lot about myself. I thought my determination would keep me going steadily down the scale, but this struggle has truly humbled me. The privilege is all mine!

Thanks Babs! Gosh, you're the one that inspires me! I think your running is just amazing, and wish I could be a runner too......without actually having to run, that is!

I DEFINATELY think doing what you're doing is way, way, WAY better than trying to ignore the mental fatigue and risk throwing in the towel. You are incredible and amazing miss thing!!!!!!! KEEP UP THE FABULOUS WORK!!!!
You crack me up, Sweetness! "Grrrr!" You are a true inspiration to me! Watching you I know I can get there and maintain like a pro, even with life happening all around me!

Oh Pat! You are right, I am blessed to even see anything positive in the mirror. I've never been one to like what I see there, even when I was young and cute and slim. To be able to look there and say "Hmmm, not too bad for a 47 year old gal" even some of the time is a blessing! I'm so glad you're here!

Coming from one of my true inspirations, this means so much! Thank you for always supporting me!
