I love homemade ice cream! My pap use to make it when I was a little. Every cookout they had he made it. It was so good and I haven't had it in many many years.

This pain is no joke today. I haven't felt this miserable in a while. I have pain every day but I can usually manage it. Not today.

Mini skirts and knee socks...hmmm, is this a specific request from DH?

Soren, I love homemade ice cream!! How dare you mention it on a DD!

Tammy, I hope you feel better soon!

Looks like I'll be resting today.
I have degenerative disc disease as well. I was diagnosed at age 20. I was using a walker by age 29. At 32 I had 5 levels of my spine fused. It helped a bit, but you know- it's not great. I had 5 levels fused- from the tailbone to base of rib cage. I need 6 levels fused in my neck, but it's not happening any time soon.

I tell people all the time....DONT DO ANYTHING TO HURT YOUR BACK! When your spine gets damaged, and you live with pain, it affects your whole body!
I had it. It's no miracle- at least not for me. I felt no relief period. I have great pain killers and just power through. I really try to never focus on it and try to never give into it. My brain and body battle it out quite often. I'm pretty stubborn most times so the brain wins, but the body is not always pleased.

So, on that note, I have laid off on my crazy (I'll admit it) gym workouts. I thought for sure I was going to blow up since I was really going all out for a couple months... well... today I saw a new low (120.7) and I have not even been trying to lose. I don't get it, but I'll take it!

Well what do,you know? Nothing in our bodies is as we expect.

I have such admiration for you and Tammy, living with those levels of pain day in day must be so draining. I can't begin to imagine it. Just sending big hugs to you both.

I am doing great with my weight just now, maintaining just where I like to be around the 126 mark and doing 5:2 or even 6:1 on occasion. But if the opportunity and inclination are there I throw in an extra DD. Suits me.

I love 5:2 for maintenance, but I throw the occasional extra DD in as well from time to time. I haven't in a while, but today I'm going to fast till a late dinner and may make it a DD if I feel so inclined when the time arrives.

I'm a firm believer in quality over quantity now, in all things, including exercise. Getting in fewer more focused workouts in and giving yourself time to recover will often get you to your desired result faster, with less chance of injury which will definitely set you back. I'm not surprised your weight dropped with rest, I often see my best losses when I'm forced to just stop working out, because of weather or other things keeping me away from the gym. I see it as a sign that my muscles are recovering and healing and letting go of the water as inflammation from exercise decreases. Doesn't mean you did lose fat and it was all water, it just means you couldn't see the fat loss yet because of the water.

WOE: Whatever plan keeps me around 150 lbs!
DH is doing another paranormal investigation class at Sierra Sky Ranch ("haunted" hotel near Yosemite) tomorrow night. For some odd reason that I can no longer remember, Keira and I agreed to tag along. We won't be attending the class or doing any investigating, but we'll be spending the night.

I asked DH to call the hotel today and find out if dogs are allowed. I think I'll feel better if I can have Lily with me. She weighs almost as much as I do, so even though she's the sweetest of sweet pups, she'll make me feel safer.

This will make for a VERY long day tomorrow. It's Keira's opening day ceremony for her softball team, and she has 2 games. We have to be there at 7:45 a.m., then she has a game in the morning and one in the afternoon. In between, if I can take Lily with us, I'll need to bathe her. It's a process with her size, to say the least. Then we have dinner with the paranormal class at the hotel at 7:00 p.m. The hotel's a couple hours away. Should be fun, though, if nerve-wracking!

Well, that is quite a day, I am exhausted just reading about it. Lily might not like it if there are any spooks around, lol. Enjoy yourselves and I hope Kiera's Softball goes well too.

Sounds like a lot of fun, Dawn!! Have you tried going to one of the pet stores to bathe Lily? Some of them have "stations" where you can bathe your dog, much easier than at home.

Kissa: Sounds like you have a wonderful plan that is working for you. 5:2 or 6:1 sounds like great maintenance routines. Isn't it nice to know that you can fairly maintain what you worked so hard to achieve?

Dawn: I'm with Kissa! Whew! Exhausting long day for you. But I know you are going to enjoy every minute (well, except maybe for bathing Lily)

That's what I usually do, but she doesn't like to walk up the ramp. It usually takes both of us (DH and me) to get her in the station, and it'll just be Keira and me tomorrow. As I think about it more, I might take Tesha instead. She's the boxer/mastiff mix and only weighs about 70 pounds. She's older and a bit calmer. I'd take all three of them, but that might be too much.

Cindy/LG, DH has orb pictures from the last time he went.

JayLynn, surprisingly, they don't usually get jealous. We often try to give them each a little one-on-one time every so often, and then group activities (dog park, shopping, etc.) more frequently.

I want pictures of the giant dog washing!

sorry to taunt with the ice cream Today's my dd, so turnabout is fair play. I made chocolate, coffee, and raspberry... I love my new base and method of making them, BUT, the xylitol is killing me.

I'm going to have to figure out how to use a bit less (still need it for texture) and incorporate splenda for sweetness.

In related news-- I thought about those of you who use egg whites on a DD... I thought of making meringue cookies... so I found a recipe and have them in the oven now. A few more hours of drying, and maybe I'll try 1 today (8 calories per, the way I made them this time).

Will do a workout later-- I've got my exercise clothes on already

Hi, Dawn,
My way of thinking is--if three dogs isn't too much at home, why would it be in a hotel?
As to spirits, etc., if it's not bothering the dog(s), it doesn't need to bother me. And if it IS bothering the dog(s), they can take care of it. Win-win. Hope you get to take a dog.

We've decided to take Tesha. 3 dogs (equaling about 300 pounds all together) is too much for one measly hotel room! At home, if they get crowded in bed with us ~ yes, there are nights ALL 3 sleep in bed with us! ~ they can go into another room if they choose.

DH confirmed we can bring her, so we're all set. I hope she protects us well.

Yay--good hotel! If they are haunted, I guess they need to be flexible.
I love big dogs. I've had a newfoundland, 4 bouviers, and now a large labradoodle. Mostly rescues, but not the first two. I didn't really know about rescue back then. Now, it's hard to imagine a good reason NOT to rescue.
Have fun.

I've been busy today. I had to drive a total of 3 hours to pick up a prescription and take it to the pharmacy that they deal with. It's a compound pain medicine for my back. Someone messed up so I had to do this so I can start the new script on time. Sheesh!

Then I come home and dh texts and asks me to take him dinner at 5. So I did that. Then took car to get washed and vacuumed. Now I'm laying down.

This is a DD so I'm glad I was busy. No hunger either. Going to make me a 2 oz slider (hamburger) and some green beans for dinner. That would be the only thing I've had to eat today Very happy about today!

Sounds like a good plan! My dog and cats all sleep on the bed too, but my lab sleeps on the floor. Her hips keep her from getting on the bed too often, but sometimes we help her up for a bit.

I can't wait to hear about your trip!!! I would be so psyched (bad word? ) to go on an excursion like that.

I wonder if ghosts who have people coming on purpose to see them (ghost hotel) behave differently than incidental ghosts(people coming to a place that has ghosts for a non-ghost related reason)?

From the Sierra Sky Ranch's home page:

"Before World War Two the ranch house was used for convalescing tuberculosis patients. During the war it was used as a Rest and Recreation (R&R) Center for American servicemen. In 1946 the ranch was converted to a guest facility, and the name was changed to the Sierra Sky Ranch."

Rumor has it that two small children died there from tuberculosis (along with many others) and several servicemen during WWII. The most common phenomena reported are "giggling children" and people see women in nurses' uniforms.

When DH was there last year, he caught some strange things on camera, and had some "weird" feelings which correlated directly with times orbs were captured in pictures. He's not usually OCD, but has a thing about locking doors. He can't rest until he's made sure that all points of access are secure. When he arose in the morning, his door and windows were all unlocked.
