This the first time I have experienced being up after a DD. Thanks to these boards, I know that's not unusual, but I'm still a bit puzzled. However, it's an up day, and I'm going out for brunch, so I'll focus on that!

Daily weigh ins

Is it ok to weigh yourself daily? I do and it tends to make me a bit neurotic as I get really aggravated when I go up a half pound or so. I've tried sticking to weekly weigh ins but I can't, I always end up on the school before bed and first thing in the morning. I am so eager to get to my goal weight but I know it'll be a little while. I have about 28 more pounds to go but it's much better than the 70 or so I had when I started.

Elliebear - Dr Johnson advised weekly weigh-ins and only ever after DD. Some of us like daily weigh-ins to track the progress and natural fluctuations of UD and DD (or the degree of water retention after exercise etc.). Various strong-willed individuals have abstained from weighing for a month or more at a time (Carol/Low Carb Girl and Lili84).

I feel that you've answered your own question. Would it be worth asking someone to remove your scales for a few days so you can pay attention to how you feel and your body's cues rather than the feedback of a weighing machine?

Hi Stephanie! This does happen sometimes ... hard to say why! Just know that the scale doesn't always correspond with how well you are doing on the plan. But I did wonder about your up day calories ... 1253 is a very low up day, isn't it? I don't know your height/age but someone of your current weight would typically have a 1500-1600 up day. Maybe this was not a typical up day for you, but I saw you on the newbie board and I just wanted to make sure you had heard people on this board have noticed that if our up day calories get too low on a regular basis, JUDDD doesn't seem to work as well. (Also there is a risk of losing lean body mass and also slowing down your metabolism, which isn't so good long term.) It's great to have you here.

It's OK to weigh yourself however often is best for you. If you weigh every day, just know that you will see fluctuations after UDs and DDs, and this is normal. I agree with SlowSure, though, and would say that if daily weighing makes you feel neurotic and aggravated, you might want to do weekly weighing or weighing only after down days.

Christina, thanks for asking about the lower calorie count for the up day. It was honestly all I wanted that day....but, yes, usually I am at 1500 or so. I did wonder if the lower UD might keep me from losing, but in the long run, I really think the daily fluctuations are mostly a mystery.

Thank you Christina! So good to see so many familiar faces and you are doing SO well! 73 pounds down is amazing!

You're totally right, yesterday was the lower side of an up day, but I was still expecting a bounce up with that number of calories! The bounces are sometimes a total mystery to me though I'm actually attempting an experiment of 4:3, so my weekend UD's will be higher and my weekday UD's lowish, around 1650. It should work out to the same total number of calories as regular EOD but I don't think the JUDDD magic comes from pure calorie restriction so I'm not sure how this will work. It's fun in the process though! After months on a 1300 cal diet a nutritionist put me on, even 1650 feels downright decadent.

Totally agree with this! The daily bounce thread that was recently bumped was a good reminder of the importance of the big picture for me. But the daily weigh-ins are half the fun (and sometimes torture).

I let myself go over a bit on yesterday's UD. I had to make up for my low one on Friday.

Actually, I was nerve eating a little during the evening. We had hours of thunder and lightning and sleet (thundersleet), which is just so weird. I really can't afford a snow day from work, but ended up up taking one today.
