Might look for some on Thursday (as I'm off work).
Do you have a Hamrick's? I love looking there. I got a pair of Seven jeans at an excellent price! They were on the clearance rack. I just picked up 2 pairs of Lee jeans (with the tummy control panel in them) for $10 a piece before I used the coupon. I know you are in SC, and we have it here in Columbia. Not sure if they have one up your way in the Greenville area.

We do have Hamricks. I haven't been there in years lol. Might need to go back!

BTW, you're closer to Greenville than I am! I'm in Florence.

Ah, I forgot where you were Good to know you have a Hamrick's. My kids call it "the old lady store" but I love it they have such good deals, every time I go in.

I know, and it's crazy when clothes of the same size in the same store all fit you different! Plus I even bought 2 tops of the same design but different colors because I like how the first one fit me, and the second top at the same store of the same size and same design on the same rack STILL fit me different than the first one! Unbelievable! It was wearable but still fit me different. It's not our fault, they need a more universal size chart for all designs, all brands at all stores. But it was fun to shop in that smaller size though. I just wish all sizes could fit the same.

A lady at the flea market told me that she used to work in the clothing manufacturing business on an assembly line and if they were short on a particular size, they would just label something with the size they needed for quota, even if it wasn't that size.

That would explain the Old Navy (mom) jeans I'm wearing with the 32" waist. These are loose yet I have another pair that I can't even button.

that's an interesting site even though it's aimed at women. I made a post earlier in Flutter's dress thread about finding clothes that fit and flatter rather then to hide in and this follows along with that.

I wish we had more shopping choices here but it's kind of a cow town and most of the brands mentioned aren't sold here (though we do have a Gap and Old Navy ). I know you can buy on-line but without knowing what size to get or how they look it could mean a lot of buying and returning.

I finally read the blog entry you mentioned. I'm currently wearing Old Navy Diva Skinny jeans in 8L. I checked, and the pockets don't look like the pockets she posted pictures about. They seem smaller on mine, or maybe my butt's just bigger.

Photo Demo

Okay, so here are 3 views of 4 pairs of jeans. From left to right in all photos: Lucky Brand, Hydrolics, Old Navy Sweetheart and Old Navy Diva. The first pair are my favorite pair.
The photos were all taken one right after another, with jeans all fresh from the dryer. They're all different sizes but the fit is pretty much the same. I don't know why the flash didn't go off on the side views, and sorry some of the last ones are blurry. One can only ask the husband to take so many posed photos of jeans before he starts to lose his enthusiasm for the little project.

My waist is 38" and my hips are 46". I bought I pair of size 16's and they are still too tight in the waist and give me a mean bulge when I sit down.
I read this with interest because my current measurements are pretty much the same as yours, but I have the opposite issue with jeans bought here in the UK. Maybe British women generally have thicker waists than Americans or something (??), but most of the clothes I buy end up loose at the waist if I buy the size I need for my hips (sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes not so good). I fit into a UK size 16 jeans at Next with those measurements (size 12 US) and use a belt to cinch in the waist so they don't wriggle down too much during the day. Cheaper shops, I would probably need to buy a UK size 18 (US size 14) but it would likely fit easily. (I should probably note that I'm 5'5" but short-torsoed and long-legged)

Maybe something to think about if you're willing to try mail order? Most UK clothes shops allow you to buy online these days, but I don't know what the relative cost would be compared to what you're used to paying in the US.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it sounds as if your waist is small(er), so you have to belt it? I have the same problem.

Yennie, thanks for sharing the jean photos. It's amazing how the same size jeans in different brands can fit so differently! I like the second pair the best too.

Yes, Yennie, thanks for doing this. It's amazing how diff jeans can look on us. I agree with you and Carol that the Lucky's are the most flattering! Hadn't thought to notice the butt lifting aspect until Carol mentioned it, but, the Lucky jeans do seem to shape nicely!!!

Yennie is rockin the jeans people!

I wish there was a similar site aimed at men. It is also tough for us to find stuff that fits and flatters. Of course, not having a waist (or a butt) doesn't help much.

We are talking about the 2nd jeans from the right, right? As in 4321, with 2 being the most flattering and plain pockets.

My wife wears Levis, too, and I had to check last night to make sure they weren't mom jeans (any excuse to look at her butt, I guess). They weren't but they did have the slightly tilted back pockets that were mentioned on that blog post. Still looked good, though.

Ok, I like those too. The others are plain, but they do fit the bill of the pockets being above the bottom of the butt, and they do seem slimming. The Lucky jeans look more modern and are also flattering.

Cindy, I first thought the plain (Old Navy Sweetheart) ones were best till Carol commented on the butt lifting of the Lucky brand. That's when I decided to go with that pair...............the more lift I could get the better. Yennie doesn't seem to be in such need!

Yennie, did you think you would stir up so much convo? ?

A gal and her jeans is a pretty big deal though....afterall!!!

No, I really didn't think it would stir up that much. Thanks for the kind words about my, um...bum. It spends a lot of time in the saddle so it doesn't always get as much attention as some of the other parts

I am not sure the photos really do the justice to the difference between the different pants but I've definitely noticed it and I wanted to (hopefully) illustrate the point that different styles and fits can make or break the look. So, ya know, even if you hate your current jeans you might be able to find ones you love, no matter the size or shape.

Frosty - you should ask the gal on the blog to do a similar study for men. Her contact info is on the blog. After all, she does invite one to send her photos of one's butt in jeans for a "yay" or "nay" vote. So I bet she'd be willing to take suggestions on future blogs.
