What a difference a pound makes?

It can't be just that the scale finally hit 10 pounds down since I re-started JUDDD. I mean it seems like it was stuck at 9.4 forever!

Yesterday after I got home from the gym - long intense workout - I did 2 things I know you are not supposed to do.

1. I stepped on the scale. Mindlessly not thinking I had just guzzled two 16 ounces of water, plus I know my body holds on to water after working out.

2. I was packing for my Palm Springs trip and tried on a pair of my favorite jeans (one size down from what I'm wearing now) and I could not get them buttoned or zipped.

All that made me feel pretty bummed.

But, yesterday was a DD and a pretty darned good one.

My body released a LOT of fluid yesterday afternoon, evening and night.

I had put some ACV in my water yesterday afternoon, I wonder if that acted as a diuretic?

Anyway, this morning I was getting dressed to go shopping and out to lunch with dear DD. The jeans were still on the chair where I had tossed them in disgust yesterday.

I thought, "hmmmm...I actually feel thinner than yesterday. Should I...??"

They fit! Perfectly! Comfortably! Just like they are supposed to fit! I wore them all day. Love them!

What a difference a day makes! What a difference a pound makes! Well, I know it's not just that new pound lost. There are things going on in my body and fat being lost.

OK, I'll stop blabbing. Just wanted to share how excited I feel and how much I love JUDDD!

Today was a glorious UD full of all the things I planned for. I'm happy. Satisfied. Not one bit guilty. And, I'm looking forward to my DD tomorrow.

Thank you Pat! I'm definitely in a hugging mood!

It's one of those UDs where I feel like I ate so many good things. Not just good as in yummy (I had a brownie) but good as in nutritious and because of that I'm confident already that tomorrow's DD is going to be majorly successful and even enjoyable!

I'm going to go to the gym and have a good workout and it's good to know I won't be starving. Check with me tomorrow because I hope this does not jinx me!

And ACV in your water - DEFINITELY releases the extra water in your body. I drink it on a semi-regular basis.... and I love the taste - for me makes the water go down easier.

I buy the Braggs organic and shake it up really good before I use it. You can see some of the good stuff settling on the bottom. The glasses I use are 16 ounce. First I put in a bunch of ice, then cover it with water, then put 2 tablespoons of ACV on top and give it a little stir with an ice tea spoon. I can't say I love the taste but I don't dislike it either. And, wow. It must have wooshed away all the extra water. Like about 3 pounds worth because after exercise and all the water I drank the scale was way up so my body was just bloated and hanging on to fluids. After I drank the ACV water, whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Could you also do a shot of ACV with a water chaser?

Gosh, never tried it. It might work even faster that way. Just be sure and drink lots of ice cold water afterwards. I really think it's the combo of the ACV and the water that makes it effective for me but who knows?

hmmmmmm.... I just Googled "is apple cider vinegar a diuretic" and found some great articles. Here's a little quote from one:

"Vinegar as a Diuretic

Vinegar is a natural diuretic option for those who need help to remove excess fluid from the body or boost urine output. According to the alternative medicine page bella online the benefit of vinegar as a diuretic is that it prevents the potassium-depleting effects of many natural and prescription diuretics."

This is good news for me since I've had problems with low potassium in the past.

Congratulations, Yam Yam. Great topic.

At two weeks (plus one day), my scale showed an 8 pound drop. I know a lot of that was water, but I am walking much better, with a lot less pain, and I am truly grateful.

I'm still having indigestion. Yesterday (UD) I stopped at the store, thinking eating something in the morning might be the answer. I bought some breakfast bars, ate one to "test" it in the car on the way home, and preceded to finish off the whole box. Hmm. Guess that didn't work out so well! I must say the breakfast bars held me until this morning, but I woke with indigestion and was very ready for a DD. I had a hard boiled egg, which seems to be helping, and plan to eat mini meals throughout the day.

Congrats on the 8 pound drop! That is just awesome! Sure, some of it is water. But remember that has to happen in the beginning and it's part of successful fat loss.

Well, lesson learned on the breakfast bars, huh? There is probably sugar in them and that stimulated your appetite. So many cereals do that to me. I cannot have a normal serving of raisin bran. One taste of it and I just crave it and have to eat half the box. So, I never ever have it in the house any more. I mean never!!!!!

My advice to all s is to concentrate on having great and successful DDs. If you do, eventually the UDs will start to regulate themselves and be easier.

This forum and, today, this thread in particular are just what I need.
I hate UP Days. Hate them.
I have wonderful nutritious food in the house.
Fish
Yams (Yam Yams, I call them now)
Lots of veggies
Farm fresh eggs
Cottage Cheese
Steel cut oats
Shredded Chicken
and so on.
I didn't feel like eating till about 4 PM
what did I eat?
Popcorn (air popped) with too much butter and salt and
a Jack and diet caffeine free coke.
Really?, Pat, Really?
this is how you are going to prepare your body for a good DD?? Really?
I make me tired.
I seem to enjoy my DDs as there is no thinking.
Up Days just throw me.
I am going to do my usual DD tomorrow and then even if I am not hungry I am going to eat on my next UD before I start grazing and craving.
I am nuts.
Seriously, I am nuts.
I am not giving up.
I am under my allowed UD calories, but I have not had one healthy bite.

I am going to give you some comfort here so you will stop beating yourself up, Girl!!!

Back in the day we JUDDDers used to joke: "Come over to the dark side. We have cooooooookies."

On Mosley's Horizon video he was shocked to find out that Krista Varady said it does not matter what you eat. It's the calories that matter.

Now, I'm not saying that if you eat a lot of carbs for your UD dinner that you won't have cravings the morning of your DD. I used to. This seems to have worked itself out for me and it does not matter anymore.

Very seriously what matters is how many calories you are eating. Especially on your DDs.

On your thread I just posted to you that the DDs are THE most important part of JUDDD in the beginning stages until you get those sirtuin enzymes flowing.

You might be in a stage where your body has some healing to do before your appetite starts to self regulate and you start to crave healthier foods. Don't make yourself miserable. You are catching up for all the foods you denied yourself on every other diet.

My advice is two fold and forgive me if I'm repeating myself but I do want to rub it in!

1. Be strict, religious and unmovable about your DDs. After you have a few months under your belt a few messed up DDs won't matter. For now, they are of utmost importance whenever you can get them as low as possible. Do it.

2. To feel you have more control on UDs break your fast with your favorite lean protein. (see my detailed explanation of this on the other thread). Make sure it's a protein source you really like or you won't eat it. Just 100 calories of a lean protein can do wonders for clarity and appetite suppression and that feeling of control. It puts YOU in charge instead of the FOODs.

I really believe as you keep grinding out those great DDs, eventually the healing taking place in your body will start making you actually crave more nutritious foods and you might even find you want to eat less than you thought on UDs.

I have read that over and over in books and articles about IF. And now, unbelievably, I'm finding it coming true for myself. Never in a million years thought that would happen to me! It's magic!

I think you nailed it.
I have restricted for so long that when I allow myself to eat I go for the things that I always binged on vs. anything healthy. It is like I will never have butter again or a cocktail.
I can't wait till I allow myself to eat real food on an UD. I imagine it will feel wonderful.
DDs feel so natural as I think I associate complete denial (punishment?) with 'dieting'.
I have so much to learn at such a late date.
Your kindness and concern really help.

The blogger Its the Woo, who also used to post here many years ago believes that ACV has a favourable effect on insulin. A shot of ACV in water at end of an UD eating can work as a psychological cue to signify that eating is over for now, as well as the insulin benefits to curb hunger.

Pat, I am pretty much in your boat on the UD eating. Especially this past week with TOM here, CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE!!! Did I mention on one UD I managed to eat a whole 5oz can of smoked wasabi almonds?!!? I just kept taking a handful here, there, and by the end of the day the damn can was EMPTY! Would I have stayed on for 3.5 weeks or given up? I know the weather, the divorce, cross country move ect are a bit stressful for me so I let myself off the hook...for now. There will be time when the weather is better and I do more walking, go to the gym more, crave more salads that those clean and healthy foods will make a more frequent appearance on DD's but for now, I'm giving myself a break. I also told myself that I can't ***** and moan about slow losses either! LOL! NOT saying you are, I'm talking bout me! LOL! And I'm liking how I'm feeling and I do want the numbers to keep moving down and to do that I will be changing the foods I pick on UD's. Hang in there, it will "click" and happen naturally like Yammy said.

Interesting! sounds good.

What I have been doing at the end of each UD is to mix a teaspoon of fiber (psyllium husks) in about 2 or 3 ounces of ice cold water and glugging it. Then I follow it with a chaser of at least 8 ounces of ice water.

I didn't think of it till you mentioned that, but I guess it's my signal that eating time is over.

It also makes me feel good to know that fiber soaks up some of the bad cholesterol and it also helps move everything through the system. I don't like thinking that when I step on the scale some of that weight is from undigested food. Fiber is very good for the colon.
