I think saggy skin can shrink [I]some[I] over time. It depends on so many different things like exercise, nutrition, genes etc. My saggy neck was much worse a year ago. Its still there, but its tightened up some. I do face exercises from time to time. Different websites explain them and give examples and benefits. My arm and tummy flab will only get worse as I lose more, but that's what longer sleeves and capris are for, right?

I'm doing face exercises. Dunno if they work and can't really see how the would but it can't hurt ... except for people thinking I'm making funny faces at them.

Turtleneck sweaters are calling my name. I think I could get some mock short sleeve turtlenecks for summer.

Have so much excess on my stomach...some because of fat, and the rest from three pregnancies, one of which was for gigantor baby lol. No amount of body fat reduction is gonna fix that issue...same with my breasts. Body fat loss down to the 16% mark would leave me with hideous saggy socks there I believe. I'm aiming for body acceptance at ideal weight rather than body perfection. I would like to not have the tummy sag, but I've also accepted it's part of my baby body story. I have several friends who are super fit and thin, and still have saggy mummy tummies, ofcourse not to the degree of mine....but they have them none the less.

I had to laugh at "giangtor baby". I think body acceptance is key, and a very healthy way of thinking.

My wife was 110 lbs when she got pregnant with our second son, who weighed 9.5 lbs when born. So - yeah - there are some things that only surgery will fix (speaking of mummy tummies).

I have a 12" scar from my spine surgery, which, clearly, I can't see well. I've been told by many doctors that he did an amazing job. He is a spine surgeon, not a plastic surgeon, so one would hope a good plastic surgeon could do a decent job. I won't show my arms now so my only hope is surgery, but it may not be financially feasible.

So I have to wear compression shorts and that's it for the bod pod test! This should be fun. A guy will be running the tests so I guess I shouldn't be too embarrassed, but I'd rather wear regular swim trunks!

Just kidding. I do it while driving but I try not to REALLY stick my tongue out when people can see me. The others are weird , too, but I mind less with those when people can see me because I'm not being immature, just silly looking.

Driving in the car is great for face exercises. and kegels. lol

when I first started doing the face ones in the car I'd be careful not to let anyone see me. but I found myself worrying about that too much and wasn't spending enough time making the weird faces. just had to set my priorities straight.

Funny thing is Cindy, turtle necks seem to draw attention to my neck and make it look worse!

I'm not going to worry about tummy as it's always hidden, never wore bikinis even when I would have looked good! Wings are the only big problem as I would love to wear sleeveless tops.

Mike, did you get the info from the web site about what to wear for bod pod test? I called the number they had given for a location nearest to me (100+ miles away), the guy said he doesn't schedule the appointments and gave me an email of a person to set up the appointment. So I emailed her and she say she'll make the appointment but is not part of actual "dunking" crew

I looked into the bod pod testing here and there is a place that does them. They sell three visit packages. This might be a really good motivator to keep me going on the weight training. Does anyone know how accurate these are compared to the other ways to measure?

I thought I had it bad with Keira at 9 lbs, 2 oz (and 3 weeks EARLY!). Give your wife extra hugs from those of us who feel her pain.

Our first son was 8 lbs and our second was 9.5 lbs. We never had any more kids because my wife was worried that they would gain a pound and a half each time.

I'm going to have both the bod pod and DEXA scan done tomorrow so I can specifically compare the results of both. I also have BIA scale at home to compare the results too as well. I'll report tomorrow.

Thanks! Exactly the kind of comparison that will be very useful. I also wonder about the scale body fat numbers. I know they are said to be inaccurate but I think mine does measure changes in my body composition. It would be interesting to know how far off it is. I'll be watching for your post.

Mike, I can't wait to hear your report tomorrow. The compression clothing is a bit weird for those of us who don't normally wear that kind of thing. No gym-bunny here! I was slightly embarrassed in my skin tight yoga capris and sports tank, and it was a guy who did mine, took measurements, etc. But he was professional and didn't make me feel weird.

There are areas I'd love to have "tucked", but I am afraid of surgery. I'm super fair skinned, and it seems like I have scars that stick around and stay red for quite awhile. No thanks. I think the sag might attract less unwanted attention that scars like that.

I will say that my neck-sag has shrunk up quite a bit - more than I ever thought it could, actually. I sometimes do those facial exercises too, and for awhile was doing the whole slapping my neck with the back of my hand thing. Crazy, but I think it worked! I also religiously use a CoQ10 cream on my neck morning and night, and I notice it looks way better when it's well moisturized.

I also think this thread is worth a read when you're thinking of the bodies ability to become 'lean' after years of not being so Self-transformation it is talking more about paleo/NK but fits with many lc diets really.

Frankly, at this point, I'm looking forward to some loose skin. My stomach is refusing to budge. REFUSING! My legs fit in a size 10 pant but my waist is decidedly NOT in a size 10.

A question I was pondering the other day that I never thought about before: Body fat calipers can't measure visceral fat, right? I'm assuming that's why the hydrostatic is more accurate? Or does the hydrostatic not account for the visceral fat, too?

Hydrostatic accounts for buoyancy, weight on land and weight in the water, as well as volume displacement so it would take into account all types of body fat, regardless of location.

That's what I figured because that makes sense. I'm only just coming to the realization about the different types of belly fat. Finally.

Yes, as per Yennie, hydrostatic will yield the amount of your total body fat because it's a 2 chamber model - meaning, it assesses you for fat and not-fat (therefore LBM).

A DXA or MRI will give additional information about where that fat is distributed throughout the body.

The not-yet-available-to-the-public Body Volume Index is intended as a volumetric and more accurate version of the BMI that will use various scanning sensors to yield your exact measurements and fat distribution.

I enjoy my 'mommy marks'. They are a badge of honor. And right now, I am still excited that I have actually gone down enough in weight to even HAVE some 'loose skin'. Check back with me in a year, to see if I am still loving it!
