Today is my first DD, and also the first day of my period

I have what feels like the worst cramps ever, but am also ravenously hungry.

Please, talk me through this

Oh boy, not a great combination. I feel for you. I might be tempted to abandon your 1st DD today and just do what makes you feel better. Then restart again in a couple of days when you've gotten through the worst of TOM. Normally TOM isn't a deal breaker on JUDDD, but your first DD? It may be just too much and may give you a mental block against JUDDD. It will be interesting to see what the others think.

Give yourself a break. But could try some hot broth, warm on the tummy area.
Is Midol still around? It use to say me lots of months. Good thoughts your way.

I think I may abandon ship today. I still haven't eaten at all, but that is only due to class and homework constraints.

I have MWF scheduled as my DDs due to the fact that I fast religiously on W and F already, so I may just wait for my first official DD to be Wednesday.

Good move. Cramps + 1st DD (might) = jaundiced view of JUDDD

I agree with the others, depending on how long your symptoms last, start when it's the right time.

Hope you are feeling better. And, yes. I agree. Abandon ship with abandon today! Do your first DD after you have had a very satisfying and filling UD and when your head and your body are in it.

I have PCOS so I go through years where I get it 3x per month and then years where it come 3x per year... I've never had a 28 day cycle- ever.

I am feeling much better this evening! Ibuprofen and Pepto helped with the cramps, headache, and stomach upset.

The plan is to start on Wednesday!

Remember, you can always start JUDDD with an Up Day! How about making today your first day? Eat normally, and plan your Down day for tomorrow.

You may think it is just verbal quibbling, to say a day of normal eating is doing JUDDD, but it really is. Half of the program is eating low-/no-calorie. But the other half, eating normally on alternate days, is just as important. The best way to have a good Down Day, is to have a good(adequate calories, great nutrition) Up Day the day before.

Hope the cramps are better.
