Confession: I do weigh after DDs for the most part and even sometimes after an UD. But, I'm just posting my approximately every week weight to encourage myself and see that I am really making progress. Hope that's ok?
It is not just ok, it is perfect!!
I just love the number 10!!

I had a UUAD on Valentines day and a sodium-filled, poor DD yesterday, so that's inflating the scale a bit, but I've weighed after other down days and I'm still not losing on the scale. Struggling. Don't know if my waist measurement is accurate ... I try to do snug without squeezing, but the amount of tension is hard to make consistent. I did think my whole tummy area is looking better visually ... is it the exercise? May do a "help!" post.

The body fat test truck was in my area yesterday and I nearly made an appointment, but it's only been 6 weeks, which seemed too soon at $39 a retest. My plan was to go back around the end of the fitness challenge April 30th. It was tempting, though, because it would have given me information about whether my efforts are absolutely not working and I have really not lost any fat in those six weeks, or whether I have and I just haven't lost scale weight. At least I know my calories for my last 4 days of higher protein experiment have been on target.

...whether I have and I just haven't lost scale weight.
You've lost approx 2% by volume of the place where you take that measurement and there's a reasonable expectation that it represents a loss of visceral fat there or a combination of that fat and a little less fat round the liver, so, less volume to push down and displace (IYSWIM).

Aerobic exercise does excellent things for the CV system, mood, blood sugar management etc. but as per the research mentioned in previous threads, it's unusual for it to shift scales much - even in combination with calorie restriction. (The exceptions tend to be chaps or study participants for whom this is their first weight loss experience.) And, the fitter than the aerobic exercise makes you, the more that you have to ramp up the intensity to have the same impact (which is why some people end up wearing weight vests and such).

Billy Blanks has a Taebo Low Impact Chair workout that he has officially released on YouTube. I'm huffing and puffing by 7mins in, and there's some of it I don't even attempt (I stick to single rather than double time in various sections and I make exercise substitutions in others). Now, I suspect that you could breeze through that <30mins workout with comparatively little difficulty and it would not burn many kcals for you tho' (relatively speaking) it would for me (small tho' that number would be). However, when I become fitter and more experienced at aerobic workouts, I suspect that we'd burn comparable amounts (adjusting for our relative body weights and LBM) and I'd then need to wear a weight vest or do something else with the intensity to get back to my current kcal burn/inefficiency when doing this.

Hugely long answer - short version, the exercise is doing you nothing but good. There's a good chance, however, that its various metabolic impacts are cloaking your body fat losses if you are guided by the scale, rather than measurements or other proxies such as mood/BP/blood sugar etc.

Thanks SS! I'm trying to encourage myself but it's hard to stay out of that discouraged place when the scale is stuck week after week, so hearing it from others helps. I really just want to know if what I'm doing is actually working!

The waist measurement seems like a good sign, assuming I'm doing it consistently, and visually my whole midsection really seems to look smaller to me in the mirror. I think my tighter pants fit better than they did at the beginning of January and the same as they did at my August low which was 7 pounds lighter.

But still ... I'm so used to the scale as a measure that it is hard to not get the more easily measurable reward there. Anyway, thanks for your always valuable and thoughtful comments.

p.s. I feel really good physically, especially since starting higher protein/healthier food, so there's that too.

Catching up...

I've been away for a little bit, so I have two numbers to post. It is great to see everyone doing so well.

202.0 3/5
195.0 3/30
188.0 4/27
185.0 5/25
181.5 6/30
176.5 7/28
174.5 8/25
168.5 9/28
169.0 10/26
165.5 11/23
168.0 12/28
Woo! Christmas feasting!
156.0 1/25
158.0 2/1
157.0 2/9
156.5 2/15
159.5 2/22

I have started reintroducing foods after my elimination diet. Right now, I seem to be hanging between 156-159. I don't expect much will change until I sort out the sensitivities. But I am feeling great. Keep having to buy new clothes as I am shrinking, so you can't ask much more than that.

FINALLY-- I was bouncing around 254-265 for what felt like forever. I started working out over the weekend, which leads (me) to better food tracking. Once you realize the WORK that goes into burning 400 calories, you're less likely to gobble them down in an unthinking manner.
(she says, in the middle of PMS and fighting hard for control).

I was worried that sore muscles would lead to water retention-- maybe they are, but at least I saw some scale movement.

next goals:

into 250's
also-- feeling different in clothes. I'm wearing my last remaining "big" jeans bc I had gotten rid of all of them (shame, some were really cute) but my next size down is cute too!

I just got back from my Palm Springs vacation where I did not weigh and did not stick to rotations - though I had hoped to.

The last time I weighed before yesterday was on 2/13 where I was still 10 pounds down.

So, I gained 2 pounds in Palm Springs. Darn! But, I had fun and have to say it was worth it.

Today is my first DD since getting back. My tummy is protesting with loud growls and grumbles but I'm trying to drown it out with water and tea right now. Might have to hard boil some eggs in case of emergency!

Anyway, after I get two or three DD rotations finished, I will post my weekly weight again. Hopefully that 2 pound gain will disappear and maybe take another pound or more with it?? I hope! I hope!

I'm logging all my food (and not eating what I don't want to log). I'm coming about 30cal under on DD, but going pretty much right up to my limit on UD.

I was exercising every day or a few in a row then a rest day, and now am thinking every other or 2 and then a rest-- starting to be a bit hard on the knees... need to ease into it a bit more.
Anyway, listening to the body as much as possible/within reason (given that the body generally wants to say-- sit on the couch!)

Good job on logging your food, Soren. It can be tedious, but it really helps with the awareness. I love your comment of not eating what you don't want to log!

Sirtain: You had a great week! Awesome progress for you!

I didn't realize this is a 5 weekend month 'til you mentioned it. I'm glad! On April 6th I'm going back east to see my family. There are two of my relatives who always comment on my (over) weight. Yuck. I need all the extra time I can get to make some progress on the scale.

Why? Why do people do this ?!? It befuddles me. Very rarely do people NOT know if they are overweight. (In fact, they often think they are overweight when they aren't.) No pointing out necessary. Jerks. (Well, maybe not.... But maybe!)

Yep. Jerks. I just would never do that. I would never even think about doing that. When I was home for my sister's hospitalization as she was dying and I was sleeping by her bed every night, I felt bad enough. Then one of my relatives said, "What happened to you? Last time I saw you, you were skinny. Well, not exactly skinny. But you weighed a lot less than you do now. What happened?"

Uggh. Then I found myself explaining that there was a lot of stress in my life. A lot of changes. A lot of travel. And every time I got back on track, something would happen.....blah, blah, blah. Why do I have to explain myself to someone I see usually once a year? She was pretty chubby for years and then got colon cancer. Her surgery was successful and she is cancer free, but after the surgery she lost about 25 pounds. She is not skinny by any means, but now she is acting like the world's expert on getting thin.

I don't know. I guess people have the right to say whatever they want. It's a free country. But you would think instinctively they would know it's not encouraging or helpful in any way.

I don't know why people are so clueless and thoughtless, Yam. I'm sorry you've had to go through this.

I know I comment when I think someone looks great. Maybe they've lost weight, maybe they're wearing their lucky shirt, who knows. But if I think someone looks awesome (even if they're a stranger), I generally can't hold back and say something!

Thanks for the encouragement with the weight loss and the logging and everything-- sometimes, *it* all just comes together, ya know?

I'm wondering if this is "the" time, the one where things click, and stick. DH and I were talking about lifestyle changes last night at dinner.

I'm hoping that, as my size shrinks, my appetite does too?

Chris-- I'm LOVING your numbers

I missed weighing in yesterday-- had a very good DD on Saturday, but got involved with running out to fix my flat tire yesterday morning... so I'll try to remember tomorrow, but it might be the end of the week before I weigh again, since I've got a lot going on at work this week.
