Well hello there! Technically I still have 13 minutes of January left but I'm okay with leaving this month behind for the next!

SlowSure 01-31-2014 11:57 PM

 these people in different time zones eh :0 And, temporarily, even different months and very occasionally, different years. :D

Oh, the temerity. :)

Kayaking today  then yet more cleaning and painting. Nothing dries in a reasonable timescale in this weather. And DH is having to clear out some of the (former) neighbours' gutters for them and the rain won't stop - but that means the gutters are overflowing worse than ever and flooding into their otherwise-unaffected-by-the-flooding-apart-from-the-damp-and-the-rising-smell upper rooms...

Oh, the temerity. :)

Ahh, there are some advantages to being at the tail end of a day. ;) For example, I knew I was good to go with the 1999/2000 transition because, well, if the world was going to end it would have started with Australia. I had several hours of previews before Y2K hit us.

Same with Dec 21, 2012. Although I did argue that since the Mayans were closer to my current time zone, the world would have ended on their time schedule and therefore I would have not had the same several hour heads up that the Y2K business would have (theoretically) given me.

And now we all know I have too much free time to think up these thoughts.

I am sorry to hear about the flood troubles...again. My goodness you guys can't seem to catch a break! Although it is nice to get your activity in, and its quite generous of DH to help out your neighbors. I can't imagine. I look at the weather atrocities occurring all over right now and I feel pretty blessed that things are fairly typical in my neck of the woods these days. Wet, yes, but that's pretty standard for where we're at.

jdforshort 02-01-2014 12:14 AM

Slow, send the rain this way a bit please! We have had the driest year ever!:D On a positive note, the temperatures during the day are very comfortable for outdoor walking! So we are lucky that way.

Joyjoy 02-01-2014 05:23 AM

Outdoor walking?! Lordy, I'm excited today because I think it'll be warm enough to ski!!
Bit nervous today. Tomorrow I'm going to see a production of a play I wrote. It's a bit like seeing your handicapped/super-challenged kid on stage dressed in strange clothes and performing in a foreign language. Sometimes I'm happily surprised at the choices they've made, and sometimes I'm embarrassed for my kid. Sometimes I'm ashamed of writing it in the first place (this one is the first play I wrote - hugely flawed) and then I have to really work to keep my mouth shut, because what comes out is critical and unkind. Whenever this happens, I swear I'll never go to another production. In fact, this is what I promised myself last time.

Anyway, blah, blah, blah. Send graceful, generous vibes my way if you're so inclined. My only goal - not a fan of setting a bar too high - is not to be an a#%ĄŁ€#.
Happy day, all.:)

I bet your play will be amazing and that you will be totally graceful!

KeirasMom 02-01-2014 05:58 AM

Kristin, I think it'll be great. I love how descriptive you are in your everyday writing here, so I imagine the play will be fantastic!

Kissa 02-01-2014 07:16 AM

Just remember the pleasure your writing has given the the director and performers, and they will be so thrilled to be sharing that with their audience. (That it includes you will no doubt be terrifying them, lol)

Joyjoy 02-01-2014 08:54 AM

Thanks everybody.
Cindy, they're not telling the cast and crew I'm coming. We'll have a wee gathering after, during which I'll heap praise if I'm sane.
As an actor, I have always been afraid of the playwright showing up. So much easier when they're dead. :hyst:

Librarygirl 02-01-2014 09:51 AM

LOL, Kristin. I'm sure you're a wonderful playwright, and I hope all goes exactly how you want. :)

:rofl::rofl: Can't wait to hear how the get together turns out! I have a feeling it will be like a mutual admiration society. Sending good vibes your way!:console:

sorenkkg 02-01-2014 11:21 AM

Break a leg Kristin!

Happy to have a new month here. It's snowing like mental, glad I got in last night with no issues.
Dd going well so far.

I'm having a jaw issue, I think (tmj) for weeks now... And now it feels like an ear thing. Trying to decide if I should call the dentist or the doctor.

Going to a friends house for the game tomorrow. I don't care about football actually, but whatever.

Oh, and it's "those" friends... The couple I mentioned in the other post... So that won't be awkward at all
Hope the food is good.

LiLi914 02-01-2014 02:14 PM

Lots of luck to you Kristin.

Soren call the dentist. Don't wait! Issue's involving the mouth start small & then develop into a massive bill.

Who plans a birthday party in the city super bowl weekend and why did I commit myself to going? Traffic is insane out here and we're taking public transportation. Here's hoping we run into some NFL players or celebs.

leonak 02-01-2014 02:57 PM

Hello All!

Had a election training meeting today, after a few of us went out for lunch!

The scale showed I gained a pound the month of January

Here is wishing us all a good month of losses!

sazzie 02-01-2014 04:11 PM

Slow Sure, sorry about those flooding issues.

Kristen, no doubt the production will be a good one, and am sending good vibes your way.

We're having a SB get together tomorrow at a friends house, and the menu is growing and growing. There will be 9 of us each bringing 2 dishes.......we're bringing chili that dh made and I'm making cream cheese muffins.

I'm going to eat something before we go so I won't feel that ravenous achy feeling of hunger.

I will not eat junk; I will not eat junk; did you hear me Gracie, you will not eat junk.

Yennie 02-01-2014 04:15 PM

Took the monkey to a birthday party. There were snacks. Including my kryptonite - Ruffles and ranch dip. I did have a few bites, but passed on the rest of the snacks, including the cupcakes. Pretty proud of myself for that, I must say.

Now the monkey is off for a sleep over with Grampa, and the hubby is at work. I'm suddenly at loose ends with no plans for the evening... Hmmm, what to do, what to do...

jdforshort 02-01-2014 11:45 PM

Best of luck Kristin! I'm sure the play is going to do great, how could it not with all the JBs sending positive thoughts your way. Must be pretty exciting though to see something you wrote and interrupted in front of you, on stage:jumpjoy:

Poor Yennie, "Home alone" , relax and enjoy!

Mssarge 02-02-2014 08:11 AM

:sing: I'm walking on sunshine and don't it feel grand....:sing: Finally saw 169 on the scale this morning; albeit, it was 169.8. It was 169 and that's what counts...it's been a long time coming and a very long time since I've seen that on the scale, so I'm celebrating. I've still to run the measurements, so looking forward to good news there, too.

31 degrees when the sun and I arose this morning with rain expected later today, so another jump for joy Unfortunately this front is sliding down the coast, so no snowfall in the Sierras (where the snowpack waters Cali but they are expecting snow in our local mountains down to about the 5000-foot level...it won't be much rain, but we'll take what we can get. Hope this change means the weather patterns are changing which will give all y'all some relief from the arctic blasts. Today the church is having a world-wide day of prayer and fasting for the drought to be relieved, so maybe we're seeing the start of that.

Kristin, sending all the good vibrations I can..and I'm sure the after-party will also be a success. :hugs:

No time for more as I've gotta run..type y'all later.

Librarygirl 02-02-2014 08:48 AM

:jumpjoy::jumpjoy::jumpjoy: Mary!!! I can't wait to get there! Congrats to a new decade for you.:clap:

Kissa 02-02-2014 12:25 PM

Wonderful Mary, so glad you have seen the 160s. How are your eyes these days?

jdforshort 02-02-2014 01:49 PM

Yay, Mary!:jumpjoy::jumpjoy: Here, l was lamenting as to how I can't go out for my walk as it's so windy and looks like it's going to rain! But now I'll pray along with you (albeit mentally from home), we really need this rain. Hopefully, we'll get the English front but may be a watered down :hyst::hyst:version!

While we're quoting song lyrics, What A Feeling - when you finally see a scale bogey figure broken. :high5:

Oddly enough, a friend of mine was telling me that the family that runs a local Chinese Supermarket has been making shrine offerings and special prayers for Chinese New Year that the rain would cease for the Dragon Dances to bring in the CNY - and the rain, did, indeed let up for several hours before setting back in with a vengeance once the festivities were over. :)

Librarygirl 02-02-2014 05:01 PM

Interesting, Slow. :)

I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow with a GP to have my thyroid tested. Once and for all, I need to find out exactly what's going on, if anything. I'm putting it here to keep myself accountable. ;) I also need to schedule a mammogram, and a visit to a dermatologist to see about having a small cyst removed from my neck. Been putting all this off for too long.

Hope everyone is having a great evening. We're not watching the Super Bowl and I fear we are in the minority. :D

Apparently, the aunt who organised the prayers, shrine offerings etc. has yet to stop bragging about the influence of her entreaties :)

Good for you for deciding to visit your GP and scheduling in other necessary bits and pieces.

Superbowl :D

leonak 02-02-2014 05:51 PM

I'm also not watching the game!!

Cindy - I had my thyroid test in December, turned out fine! DH had his tested last week, should get his results this week - his Dr told him he was sure his thyroid was fine just by looking at him, but he would check it out so dh would have piece of mind ( never heard that a dr could tell without a blood test). Good luck to you with your appointments!

Carly 02-02-2014 06:32 PM

I had mine tested on Tuesday and mine is fine.

jdforshort 02-02-2014 08:29 PM

Well, the showers did not appear (may be tonight :aprayer:), so I did do my 2 hrs walk. Talking of prayers, I remember our temple did the prayers here a few years back and it did work!
This reminds me of the times when I was a little girl, whenever there was drought in our state (mainly farming state of Punjab, India) the village elders would ask the young girls to do their "rain ritual". I swear it used to work! Come to think of it, it was a rather morbid re-enactment of a funeral of a doll! While we all followed the funeral procession - doing the pretend wailing and chanting! We would cremate the doll on the outskirts of the village; then sit and picnic with specially prepared goodies:dunno: I presumed it worked because the Elders had faith that God listens to pure of hearts and who could be more pure than the innocent kids (or it could be some ancient belief that seeing the kids cry the rain god would cry too!)

Mssarge 02-02-2014 09:05 PM

Interesting, jd, I love hearing of other customs and rituals...maybe it did have something to do with the crying.. I've heard this storm was sliding down the coast and didn't start heading inland until it hit Ventura County...they did have some snow at Frasier Park. We can keep hoping, can't we.

BTW, folks, I did the measurements and our thoughts are again proved. I dropped just over a pound, but lost two and half inches, where it counts...abdomen, waist and chest (no way am I putting the tape around the bust)...so we do drop inches before we lose the pounds....

Having to do another change step on the woe...yesterday was the DD and today was fasting until supper, so I'm doing a medium day today and an UD tomorrow. I have found that a good UD is important before going in the DD. This will work out as I've dinners planned for tomorrow and Friday.

Librarygirl 02-03-2014 06:57 AM

Entirely disgusted with trying to get an appointment with a GP. Nothing available for over a month...tried to see a different doctor than I saw last time at one practice, but was told I had to make an appt. with him, come to the appt., then tell him I want a different doctor.:dunno: I did not like his attitude and do not want to deal with that doctor again.

I guess I will just keep on keeping on, hoping everything is okay with my thyroid.:dunno:
